I just wanted to add that we have stayed at value moderate and deluxe resorts and the worst/rude experience that we ever saw as at AKL! We were in Mara at AKL one morning getting breakfast and this woman her husband and child (I'm guessing 3ish) were eating breakfast. Well the little guy was preoccupied with watching the cartoons that were on the tv and was not eating. Mom asked him to eat and a few seconds later when he wasn't eating she backhanded him hard, and told him to eat his breakfast! :scared1: DH was disgusted and told us it was time to leave saying to her that if she didn't want him to watch cartoons that she should have faced him away from the tv. She shot DH the worst, most evil look I have ever seen, but it sure made him feel better. We felt so bad for that little boy. What kind of person would do that??

Trish

Sorry for your bad experience.

I'm absolutely sure you will have a much better time at a moderate or a deluxe. We all know there are never any rude or inconsiderate people at those resorts. All those people stay at the value resorts.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 to your DH. Me or my DH would have done the same thing.

I agree with everyone else that you are going to find rude people everywhere. We stayed at POP August 14th - 24th and absolutely loved it (FOr the same reason as you, ability to make the trip a little longer) We also had the issue of someone using the luggage rack outside to dry their bathing suits and such. I called the front desk and about 15 minutes later we were leaving out room and a cast member was there telling the ocupants that they could not do this. WTG CM:thumbsup2

I too am leaving for POP in just 3 days (and 50 minutes) for a 9 night stay. We did experience the hanging of towels and bathing suits over the walkway rails last year, but we just kind of ignored them and kept on going.

I do have a horrible parent story though. In the MK, a little boy was for lack of a better word "FREAKING OUT" probably due to heat and just over stimulation and the father actually picked the boy up (maybe 4ish) and had him in a headlock. There were two family guys in line with DH and I who threatened the dad with bodily harm if he didn't put the boy down.

I think it came out something along the lines of "let me put you in a headlock and see how you like it!" We still talk about this! I guess you can only say it takes all kinds.

I will say that we just got back from the All Stars Sports and I will say that I think the free dining brings out a lot of people that don't normally go to WDW so they don't know how to act properly in the parks or at the resort ,pool, and food court. I did see towels and bathing suits draped over the bushes in front of their room. I can't believe that it is allowed!! There was always a line to fill up our mugs in the food court and people just cut in line. Our room was far away from the only pool that was open. Thank God. The Homerun pool and building next to it were totally out of control. I feel bad if anyone wanted to go to bed at a decent hour!!!

That's incredibly rough treatment for such a tender age! My goodness! :sad2: I resigned myself a long time ago that my DD just doesn't eat much while at WDW. She's "too excited" to eat. I'm lucky if I get a full meal in her at any point during the day!

Ok, I got one.

This drove me up the wall. When I was at Pop in August we were contantly being approached/followed and expected to give them something. I mean can you believe the nerve of some. Just because they asked we were supposed to share anything we had with them What kind of parents let their kids do this? I mean we were strangers, anything could have happened.

It got so bad that they would be waiting outside the door in morning just because my brother was nice and gave them something the night before. And it gets worse - if you didn't give them something they would PECK you. Yes, peck you! And then they would call their friends and they too would show up at your door demanding handouts.

Those value resort ducks really are rude!

I only stay Deluxe for this very reason. The Deluxe ducks are SO much better mannered!

you can get noisy, rude people at any resort, regardless of price range..

our worst encounter was during one of our stays at the YC concierge...

i won't go into details, but their behavior in the concierge lounge (and how they handled the food) was beyond belief....and was very disturbing to everyone else there...

but it wasn't the YC, it was the people...

I have to say................you are a product of your environment. Rudeness is a learned behavior in my opinion. As previous posters have said you can run into this anywhere. I have stayed at pop twice and going back in December. On each of my trips I didnt see anything unacceptable. But who is to say it wont happen this trip? :confused3 You basically have to say...............I wouldnt want to claim to be their mother:rotfl2:

Hi
People were so rude this year. I must have been lucky in the past, because I don't remember all of the rudeness. So many people at the parks would just crash into you. They don't look where they're going. Also, we were first in line one night to get the bus back to Pop and as my DNiece leaned over to pick up my DGD who was sleeping in the stroller, people pushed in front of us to get on the bus when the door opened. How rude!! We were determined not to let it happen to us again. Next time, 6 of us blocked the bus door. Also, a little boy was peeing at a palm tree in the courtyard with his parents standing there watching. They didn't care. We were at the Grand Floridian last December and a little boy was trying to get into the gingerbread house. I thought he was going to knock it down. Where were his parents? Stuff happens at every resort. I've been to Pop 5 times, but will be staying at POFQ for the first time next summer. Just wanted to try something new.

We were at CBR from 8/26 to 9/1 and one neighbor constantly hung their bathing suits over a chair that was near the railing in front of our doors. My DS wanted to sit on the chair for a while, but we couldn't because they constantly had their wets suits there.

Then the neighbor on the other side hung their beach towel over the railing.

So it's all over, not just at Pop.

I may be asking for it by posting this, buuuutttt...

I agree with the OP. I find that the people I encounter at the value resorts tend to be less pleasant than those at the mods we've stayed at. I don't know why, I just know that was the impression we got. There always seem to be more kids with little adult supervision at the values. I always just thought it was because tour groups (meaning church groups, school groups, etc) always seem to book at the values...meaning naturally there are going to be more rowdy, unsupervised kids there.

I have also noticed...and this may be purely coincidence...but there always seem to be more people drinking around the pools at the value. I don't mean, relaxing, having a drink or two--I mean showing up early with a cooler full and getting totally blitz. At Pop last month we actually saw people passed out cold at the pool. There is a time and place for everything, and that is NOT the time or place.:sad2: And it seemed to be during the entirety of our stay, not just once. Just never saw that at any of the mod resorts.

pop is the biggest value resort,,iv stayed there 4 times and each time i swore i wouldnt go back just because of that stuff,,its loud,,packed,,when you see laundry hanging out it reminds me of a trailer park when you go camping...but my wife likes it there for some reason,,and she has the $$$$$$ so i just follow her,,heheheheheheheheheheh or i starve

I have stayed onsite at the Dolphin, POR, CBR, CS, ASMu and most recently POP. Plus three resorts on Hotel Plaza Blvd. (Grosvenor, Best Western and Holiday Inn) and oodles of places off site. Our favorites, in order, were, POR, Grosvenor, and Dolphin. Least favorite, in order, POP, CS, ASMu. A lot of our opinion has much to do with location, location, loction, but I've never encountered more than an occasional rude person at any resort. We have always rented a car, but this last trip to POP was a tight budget trip. We used ME both ways and the dreaded busses! Now there's a place to find testy people!

I have never got that impression from the values. In August, I saw as many or more people drinking around the pool at the Poly than I ever have at POP.

Just like other posters said, rude people are everywhere! You can find drunk people, loud people, clothes-on-the-rail hangers, food touchers, hallway runners, unsupervised kids, and even ducks ;) at any place you stay. Price of the accomodations is not a determining factor. I stayed at a pricey NYC hotel last year and had to deal with 3 grown women who were incredibly drunk and running up and down the hallways in high heels (while falling all over each other) and screaming at all hours of the day and night.

I stayed at Pop 2 years ago and had no problems. One night one of our neighbors were drunk and loud but that was it. The staff was always friendly. The room was cleaned well everyday. I thought I'd be turned off by the outlandish decor, but I actually found it enjoyable. I liked the path around the resort and the bridge. They staff seemed to have fun entertaining the kids. Our ME bus arrived at about 10:30pm and they were outside waiting for us with remote controlled cars, hula hoops, and sidewalk chalk.

Unfortunately, there are rude people everywhere you go these days. It's so sad to see rudeness in kids because chances are they won't grow out of it and be just like their parents. Our DS4 doesn't get anything unless there is a please, thank you, you're welcome, etc. attached to the request.

Try not to let the "rudies" defer you from the POP. I've heard wonderful things about it.

We stayed at Pop from 8/20 to the 25th. We were on the 4th floor and quite a few of our neighbors used the railings to dry their towels and bathing suits. Some even used the luggage racks but they were near the door so as not to trip anyone (such as me, I'm such a clod). We didn't see any undies, or my daughter would have been more than vocal about it. One thing I did notice and got such a hoot out of was teenage boys being sent outside to spray on their deodorant!!!:lmao::rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: I thought I was the only one who sent her son into the back yard or to stand by an open window to spray on his deodorant (did anyone ever smell Axe? You'll understand..:scared: :scared1: ). I can understand people thinking this rude or crude, but to me it was hilarious.

As for rudeness at the deluxes:sad2: ...EVERY morning at 6:00 there would be a steady and constant tap tap tapping on our slider:confused3 ...I would have to peek outside because this tapping would wake up my kids and startle them:eek: ... so I had to take matters into my own hands:mad: ...and stopped feeding the ducks left over popcorn...

Here is a pic from a Deluxe well mannered refined place of dining!

Okay, hold on – you can’t blame the resort for that – that is DEFINITELY conditioning caused by previous Guests (and generous ones, at that ;))!

We saw smokers on the steps of buildings at POR, towels and clothes hanging over walkway rails, (why do that when they could get knocked down or covered in bugs or bird poop?),
Or stained with some beverage that spilled out of someone’s refillable mug when they oops! accidentally stumbled walking by…

At Pop last month we actually saw people passed out cold at the pool.
Okay, I gotta ask – without checking closely (or checking vital signs) or prior observation… how do you tell the difference between ‘sleeping’ and ‘passed out cold’?

We stayed at Pop from 8/20 to the 25th. We were on the 4th floor and quite a few of our neighbors used the railings to dry their towels and bathing suits
Gee, too bad some really strong breeze didn’t come through and dislodge it all… outward… ;)
