Automagical delivery of Magical Express bags from the airport to your resort stopping effective July 16.
Everyone has to fetch bags from the carousels and bring them to the welcoming area and bus, all hours.

Not mentioned whether it's temporary or for good.

Well I would think right now it shouldn't be a problem with the low number of guest on the buses, or not? But it could most certainly become a permanent change in the future if it were to benefit Disney.

Honestly this really stinks and I really hope it’s temporary. Getting my own bags when we land would be a drag and eliminate the “magic” from the Magical Express. Now it’s just a car service I have to wait to share with others. Is this to save payroll? I can’t see it being an infectious disease risk. BOOOOO.

Ok, rant over.

But still booooo

I wonder if it's a combination of staffing issues + low volume. You don't want to run the baggage trucks half empty and people already complain when it takes longer than the 3 hours to get baggage delivered. If it took like 8 hours, people would really go through the roof.

As a family with multiple disabilities, this will greatly impact us. Retrieving the luggage and rolling it to ME will be extremely difficult. I'd pay for the service if they offered baggage pick-up. We are arriving on 7/16, too. I understand this was a perk.... but it was a HUGE perk that made a HUGE difference for most of us.

We would really miss the service. We always used a skycap leaving home, so only had to move luggage maybe 50 ft at the most. I don't even remember how to get from luggage pickup to ME or a car service. And coming home it was sooooo nice to just go to TSA , not stand in lines to check in.

Ugh. I had just sent magical express my flight information and they sent a dozen emails over a few days telling me they would send the yellow tags and that RAC would resume July 12. This is so annoying.

Not happy with this news. The baggage service was really magical and much appreciated. It made you feel like Disney cared about you (silly I guess) and your magical experience. I hope this is only temporary. Never thought I'd say this, but staying offsite is looking better and better; also staying at Universal is too.( I know they don't deliver your luggage so it was never a special perk).

The baggage handling on both ends was a major perk for Disney resorts, over non-Disney resorts. I've always told myself that was the major reason I was willing to pay a premium room rate for Disney properties. There won't be any pick-up of incoming bags at MCO to be delivered to the resorts; neither will there be RAC for check-in and bag drop at the resorts, with automatic delivery to your airline at MCO to load on your flight home. Guests will be responsible for both collecting and bringing checked bags to DME motorcoach both ways, as well as standing in line at your airline's counter at MCO to check your bags for the flight home. The drop-off location that DME uses does not have any skycaps, as far as my experience, as this is not the normal drop off location for departing flights.

From Disney:

Disney’s Magical Express® Service
Complimentary airport transportation via Disney’s Magical Express service for Guests arriving and departing from Orlando International Airport is continuing to operate during this period, with some modifications. Beginning July 16, 2020 Disney’s Magical Express service will not be providing luggage delivery service for those arriving to and departing from the airport.
Guests who choose to use Disney’s Magical Express service will be responsible for picking up any of their checked luggage from the airport’s baggage claim area, so that it can be loaded onto the motorcoach to their Disney Resort hotel. Please know that your luggage will travel with you to your Disney Resort hotel.
Luggage assistance will be available at the front of your Disney Resort hotel, including luggage storage and/or transport to the room.
Upon your departure, please ensure your luggage is with you and is loaded onto the motorcoach, so you can check it in with your airline once you reach the airport. The resort airline check-in service will not be offered at this time.

Its a haul. We fly Southwest which lands on the A side of the airport, along with several other major domestic carriers. We have to go down to level 2 to baggage claim, then back up to level 3, cross the large atrium in the middle where security is to go over to the B side of the airport, then down to level 1 where ground transportation is, then walk all the way to the end of the hall where DME is. Its just DH and I with one standard rolling suitcase each, but my arm is about ready to fall off by the time I make it to DME. I can't imagine how families with kids, elderly, or disabled will do it.

And coming home it was sooooo nice to just go to TSA , not stand in lines to check in.
Its my understanding that Resort Airline Check In will still be available. Its been temporarily closed, but I believe is re-opening soon if not already. I believe the changes in the OP are just for luggage collection and delivery upon arrival.

Disney is making an attempt to see how many things they can cut and have people still visit. No reason to cut this service other than to increase profit margins. They have seemingly undergone a corporate lobotomy and their new emphasis is on the politics (please, not this discussion) vs. how to create a magical vacation.

Or it could be staffing issues with the 3rd party that transports luggage?

Whatever the reason may be, it’s once again another part of the experience that is cut. how long the service is cut will tell us the real reason.

All Disney needs to do is to tell us why its been discontinued and whether its only temporary. All the speculation and complaining would go away if they just gave us a reason. Easy.

....Disney's Magical Express....not-so-magical anymore....

Disney’s Magical Express Will No Longer Provide Luggage Delivery Service Beginning July 16.

When we had our DVC trip on June 22nd I noticed this and it wasn’t such a big deal for us but I understand others concerns.. I do not believe this will be forever or at least I hope not.
