I read on the CNN ticker tape on TV that the U.S. Government is requesting that we no longer send unsolicited mail nor care packages, unless it's from family & friends.

I just sent off another care package yesterday to TwinMom7's son.....

So....are we family or are we friends?

That might explain why those of us who are sending packages to specific individuals are to write:
Dizpins Family of Friends #229
(Name)
(Address)
for our return address.

I was going to post this too, but I tried first looking for an article on CNN about it to get more details and couldn't find anything.

We'll be sending a package to our nephew, with some "extras" for him to share.

I haven't seen this yet. I just finished taping up a big care package for my adopted soldier. Now what should I do?!

Oh NO!
I didnt hear this, I have three getting ready to go. What will happen to them?
Could I start sending them to Bobby? I think I would really like to become his friend.
Please tell me what to do!!

Maybe this is why I haven't received a soldier from that link someone posted a while back.

I plan on sending mine as planned. I have heard that they were getting some to "Any Soldier" which they don't want. I can't imagine that if it is specifically addressed to a soldier that they could tell who is family/friends and who is "strangers".

My soldier is Titus :)

I'm just as confused as you are......maybe Bobby's Mom can pop in on this thread & give us advice.

Where are you TwinMom7?

My thinking is though that we're friends with Patty (TwinMom7) so why can't we just all adopt her son as our friendly soldier? I'm sure he'd have plenty of soldiers to share with if he got too much stuff.

Mom went kinda overboard getting fast food packets(ketchup and the like) so anyone want some for packages?? I can send supplies for a package to anyone making them

Hopefully someone can give us somemore insite on what to do. I know on my instructions from Operation Military Pride it says to be sure to put Operation Military Pride on the Box. That way they know it's safe.

But how do they know it is safe? Anyone could write that on the package... :( I imagine some of the soldiers may be a little concerned....

I imagine it's the full return address that they can check that would be most important. I'll send it. Either they use it or it gets sent back to me and I'll send it to someone else.

I'm just relaying what I received in my mailing instructions from OMP. Here's exactly what they sent me:

> o In the upper left corner write "Operation Military Pride" with your complete return address so they know it's safe to open (or it might get > tossed)!

I still plan on sending my packages. :teeth: Patty just posted a new thread. Hopefully she'll read this soon.

We had a huge meeting last night - 300+ people and there was a Brigadier General who spoke to us. NOTHING was said about not being able to mail to "adopted" soldiers. We were encouraged to MAIL!!!!! This is the main morale booster that these soldiers have!!

I would just say to put (in the return address field) THE KNIGHT FAMILY or your name and then your address.

Inside, maybe a small note of explanation that you received his name from the mother of another Marine. That's all that's necessary.

As the Marine Officers love to remind us...don't believe everything you here on the news. ;)

Thanks Patty,

I knew you would know what to do :)

Our newspaper says (I just finally got around to reading it) that they just don't want mail sent to "Any Soldier".

I have two packages ready to mail tomorrow. I'm sending them, if they get returned, so be it.

This came up with the Girl Scout Cookies and I have read the procedures for those.

In the past, you could just mail stuff to "Any Soldier" and the milatary delivered. Due to security they will no longer do that. So if you mail to a specific soldier you should be fine.

What i saw was a request for "no anonymous" packages to be sent.
