From what I've read on official Disney material lately about dining, and a post on another site here, Disney is no longer doing "Advance Dining Reservations." (ADRs) Maybe because someone there realized that ALL RESERVATIONS FOR ANYTHING ARE IN ADVANCE. Therefore, it's "reservations' now. As an English wonk, I couldn't be happier.
(For us old timers, we can still use PS.)

Yes, it's been called "reservations" by Disney for awhile now but ADR has stuck around on this board. ADR didn't last long at Disney, probably because it's redundant! ;)

Before that was Priority Seating. I wish they could make up their mind!

Very true! Sometimes I find myself still saying Priority Seating. Duh, how old school! ;)

I still think in PS's and have to force myself to type/think ADR

Eventugh they are now just going to be called Reservations, won't they still work the same as Priority Seatings & ADR's? If they are to be called reservations, then should you not be seated at 7:30 PM, if that is the time of your reservation & not when they start doing the 7:30 groups. Who agrees with me about that fact? Basically I don't see a difference if the system of seating people is still the same as in the past.

I still say PS as well. I even said it when I called dining to make to PS/ADR/reservations. She knew what I meant so I guess it doesn't matter.

Yeah, they probably work the same way but even with reservations at restaurants here at home we still often have a wait so it doesn't seem any different to me if I have to wait there.

I realize that when making reservations at restaurants there might be a 5 min or less wait which I can see. But at WDW if you have a reservation for 7:30 PM & are not seated until 8:30 PM, how can you call it reservations? That is why it would look stupid calling at reservations. At least when they were called Priority Seating or ADR's, you knew you had a time slot for a specific time & would not be seated right away.

Well, we've waited much longer than 5 minutes even with a true reservation many times. I've never waited near an hour, at Disney or elsewhere, so I can't comment on that.

Only when they called it "priority seating" was it not a reservation in the traditional sense. ADR *is* a reservation - advanced dining reservation. It was redundant so they finally dropped the 'advanced dining' and just left it at reservation. It meant the same thing, though.

I can't remember when they dropped the term PS but it's been awhile. They've been calling it reservations for awhile now. I'm not sure that wait times have changed any with the dining terms...

Really? The Unofficial Guide claims that the ADR system (and by extension, the current "reservations") was no different from the old PS method. Meaning that unlike a true reservation, they don't earmark a specific table or at least table type for your time period. You still are only given priority over walk-ins.

I am not doubting you, I just wonder what your source is that Disney has gone over to a true reservation system, which PS was not.

No, it isn't any different (that I know of). He just stated that "At least when they were called Priority Seating or ADR's, you knew you had a time slot for a specific time & would not be seated right away." and I was pointing out that when they changed it to ADR it changed the meaning to a reservation - someone that heard that term would assume it's a reservation, different then a priority seating. ONLY when they called it a priority seating did it "fit" the seating method they use. I have no idea why they changed it since it's truly not a reservation.

Does that make sense?

HMMM...I guess I must have missed the name change. I am still calling them ADRs. However, we don't seem to have concensus about what this change really means. :confused3

I don't think it means anything.

What it means in reality is that they seat you when they have a table for you, and not before. What is also means is that THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS ADRs!!

Well, since it is impossible to seat you before they have a table for you, I don't see how this is a change.

Also, the 2007 dining plan brochure uses the term advance dining reservations otherwise known as ADR's.

Now, I completely understand what you are saying about the term being redundant but they still seem to be using the term.
