No meals just desserts

Hi! I was wondering if it's ok to go to a restaurant such as the California Grill and have just dessert? I'd love to try some of their desserts but I'm not interested in their entrees. Is this frowned upon at the "fancier" places? Do you still have to make advanced reservations? If so, do you tell them you're just getting desserts?

Thanks for any replies!!

I was wondering the same thing. My Dd wants to get a "fancy" dessert.

Great question also. I know the Unofficial guide sometimes says this is a great place for dessert but will the restaurants allow that? I saw pics of that yummy looking dessert from LTT and it would be great to try it. In fact, that could be in place of lunch!!

I've been just for dessert / drinks to watch the fireworks. That was not during a peak season however.

There shouldn't be a problem though.

JMO, but I don't think you should make an ADR for just dessert.

I would walk up to the podium, let the host or hostess know you would like to be seated for dessert, and go from there.

Sharing a personal exp again... (sorry for those that have heard this before!)

My mom and sister made a late ADR at CA Grill for drinks/dessert. When the hostess realized they were not ordering a meal they were refused a table. After some discussion, they were offered a seat in the bar which worked out great and they would have done that in the first place if they'd know the bar was an option (they'd never been there and didn't know you could order food there).

At CA Grill, you have to check in downstairs before getting upstairs so you could stop by and ask if there is room at the bar for drinks/dessert. Other restaurants don't seem to care as much, esp during non-peak times, if people don't want a meal per say.

Clear as mud? =)

That's good to know. I still think your family should have been given a table if they wanted.

To me, it makes no sense. 2 people could sit down for 1 1/2 hours, have 2 or 3 drinks each or a bottle of wine, 2 desserts and ring up a pretty good tab. Or 2 people could go, share an app and an entree, drink ice water, and have a much lower bill. It just doesn't seem right.

But it is good to know for next time. I've never had an issue before. Maybe next time I'll check before I just assume I can do that.

Thank you everyone for the info. We're going in Oct. so it might be an ok time to go. I'll check into the reservations and see if anyone at Disney thinks I would need them.
