NO REGULAR MAIL DELIVERY OR RETAIL SERVICE ON FRIDAY, JUNE 11, AS MARK OF RESPECT FOR FORMER PRESIDENT RONALD W. REAGAN

WASHINGTON, D.C. - There will be no regular mail delivery or retail service at postal facilities on Friday, June 11, as the Postal Service honors the memory of former President Ronald Reagan by observing a National Day of Mourning.

Express Mail service will be available.

All postal units, including Headquarters, Area and District administrative offices will observe this day of mourning.

Regular delivery and retail operations will resume Saturday, June 12.

Business mailers who had planned to deposit large mail volumes at Postal Service Bulk Mail Acceptance Units on Friday should contact their mail acceptance facilities, to determine if there are any changes to acceptance dates and times.

My DH and I work for a bank and we're wondering if we'll be open on Friday. It all depends on whether the Fed closes or not.

Aside from liking a day off, I think it is a lovely gesture to let people have the day to mourn. Every time I've seen images of the casket, or heard commentary on Reagan's death, I've gotten teary eyed.

I agree. I think its wonderful they are doing this. I know for me too its hard to watch some of the images.

I work closely w/a financial institution and we were told Fed Reserve closed on Friday so yes, banks too it appears.
Not sure what will happen w/ all those w/ dir dep and too late to change.

:wave2: Hi M&M's mom!!

I had heard Banks Closed too...Cant remember where.

Did they do this when Nixon died? I don't remember.

I can't remember if the mail came when Nixon died, but the exchanges definitely closed.

The Ronald Reagan Library is right by us.... we were thinking about going up there but its SO busy right now... its not easy to get too... a very small road. Ive been there several times with my kids school on field trips.

It depends on when the direct deposits are sent. They can be sent predated so they can be available on Friday even if the bank is closed. If the remitter is late to post it, then the deposit will also be late.

I work at a bank myself, and as of 4:30 pm today, we were told we would definitely be open on Friday. We'll see. In a way, I hope I'm forced to work - Friday will be a very, very sad day! :(

It all depends on the Fed. When we heard all govt offices were closed, my DH called the EVP and was told that if the Fed closes, we'll be closed. If not, we'll be open. BTW, he wasn't calling because he was hoping for Friday off, it was more of an informational thing for the EVP who didn't get to see or hear the news yet.

You're right... time will tell.

And, I agree. Friday will be a sad day.

Reagan and Gorbachev were the reasons why we were able to adopt our kids. Who knows if Russia would have allowed foreign adoptions if it was still a Communist state.

Dh works on Capital Hill and they are closed!

HTH!

Thanks for that information. I hadn't heard that today, and I just caught something about it on the news, but I didn't hear the whole story.

BTW - nice to meet another Christa! :)

I think that banks vary by state. If the Federal Reserve and the stock exchanges are closing I bet many banks will as well.

I didn't recall everything shutting down when Nixon did. They may have but I just didn't remember it. Same with LBJ -- this seems much bigger.

I dont believe Nixon received a Presidential Funeral. I thought they said he had a ceremony at the Nixon Library. He may have forgone some of his presidential priveleges when he stepped down. They were saying on the news that all Presidents agree to this type of funeral when they take office.
