No Magical Express Bus .. Would this bother u?

First time we went to WDW as a family happened to be the first year they started ME. They had really pumped us up with the advertising and pictures of the busses. We walked outside and saw the line up of all the cool Disney busses and one big yellow overgrown school bus. Guess which one we got? Yup the Mears bus. Didn't bother us too much but it was a bit of a downer.

Funny thing about busses. I was in Orlando for a convention and they had shuttle busses provided by Mears I assume. One day we got to ride a Disney Cruise bus and I thought that was cool.

The Magical Express is an oddity.

We get so excited to see it arrive and begin to board it.

Then we dread seeing it when it's time to head back to the airport.

That is so true! Last year I sat behind a very tearful lady who said so aptly: "How crazy is it that this was the happiest bus in the world 5 days ago and now it's the saddest?"

She stated it just like it is

It has not happened to me, but I would be thrilled! A van probably means you'd get to your hotel alot faster, with fewer stops. Have fun!

This is my thought. You are at WDW, be happy and have a good time. :thumbsup2

I understand if you are bummin' but I would have felt like a little Disney Magic was already happening...get to the resort faster and not having to wait for a bunch of people or stopping at a bunch of resorts.

It makes me wonder what the drivers think about all of us! They must spend their entire workday alternating between driving a bus full of happy bouncy people one way, and a bus full of tearful people on the way back, and so on.

At Disney now but was so sad when we landed at airport and the magical bus didnt show. They sent a Mears 6 passenger van.

Made the best of it... But was looking forward to that first initial disney magic and video, you know?

Has this happened to you?

No one seemed to know why the bus didnt come.

It was at like 840pm if that matters.

The only time I've ever flown to Disney was with my older son to meet family members for a few days, and we had a van to BW and again when we left - same thing. It must happen fairly often.

It would affect us because we don't bring car seats with us. I would require my kids to sit in car seat in a van, but they don't need them on ME and all other forms of Disney transport.

Yikes! I didn't realize this was a possibility. While it wouldn't bother me in the least (namely for the reason of getting to the resort quicker!), I've been building up the excitement of the ME to my 3-year-old. He has the little toy Disney buses (ME, Transport and Cruise Line), and I've been showing him which bus we'll be taking when we get off the airplane tomorrow. Glad I saw this - now I have 24 hours to do some preparation/damage control! LOL!

While we don't use ME anymore (we rent a car), we have used and luckily never had a plain, old Mears bus. However, I KNOW I'd be disappointed if it wasn't one of the special ME buses, lol.

You got a free ride to your hotel. A cab would have been at least $45, not including tip. A towncar even more. NO, it would not have bothered me at all.

The first time we rode ME about 3 months after they just started, we were put on one of those tiny Mears buses/cars. We were disappointed at that moment because it was not what we expected but after riding actual ME bus and watching video, we do not care about it anymore. It is just a ride. However, I totally understand if someone new gets upset, ME sets the mood.

Any initial disappointment would be overridden by the lack of stops on the way to the resort. I would categorize it as a win for the day!

Not at all. I'd rather they not spend the gas that it takes to move a motorcoach for just 6 people. And generally, I don't think I'd like it if we ended up having to wait 2+hours at MCO for enough folks to arrive for the bus to be warranted.

ME didn't exist for my pre-kids trips, but now we have three boys, ages 5, 12 and 13. I can tell you that they LOVE to start their trips with the DME bus - the painted DME bus (not the yellow version.) We have APs, so we've used DME 2-3 times per year recently. On one trip, we had a yellow bus, no Disney video, and the driver kept welcoming us to the Orlando area and pointing out/talking about Universal, the Nick hotel, etc. I don't think that's at all typical, but Disney would not have been happy! (Although my husband and I thought it was funny.) After that, our boys say they are willing to wait longer to get the painted bus and the Disney video. :)

In the end, I wouldn't have minded a van or non-DME-painted vehicle pre-kids. But with kids, it's just so fun for them to start out the trip with all the bells and whistles, so I appreciate when the painted bus w/ video shows up!

What day did you arrive? If it was Sat. evening, there might have been a shortage of buses at that time as Disney was transporting F&W half marathon runners and spectators between host resorts or Epcot and the race starting point at Wide World of Sportsand then transporting the spectators back to Epcot. There were 14,000 runners registered plus spectators to transport.

Yup!!! That would be my thought as well.
While I love riding the actual DME bus, my vacation starts the second I get off the plane. When I'm on that tram, heading to the terminal...I am, for all intents and purposes, on vacation!!!
You know what bus I hate more than the regular yellow Mears bus??? The DCL bus!! I've been put on that bus before.....it made me so sad that I wasn't going to port!!!! Now, that's disappointing....

LOL! We always do a rental to get to port as it is WAY cheaper! Wouldn't have ever thought of it. We have kinda liked getting on the cruise buses as we think the round windows are kinda cool looking! hehehe
The time the put us on an ugly plain yellow mears bus, DD & I were bummed at first but then we were like, 'Meh Whatever! Fill it up and Let's GO!' :)
