No luck with day rooms at Nassau

We are a family of 5. I just tried both the Comfort Suites and Atlantis to see if we can get a room for the day. It is impossible to get one room for 5 people (or at least that is what they are telling me). So in order for us to do that, we would have to reserve 2 rooms.

Well I won't be shelling out over $500 for that day of fun. So, I need help. Anyother really great things to do in Nassau with 3 kids ages 4, 8 and 10? At this point I'm thinking it will be more fun to just stay on the ship.

HELP. we are leaving in one month.

Thanks.

We are a family of 5 also. We cruised May of 2003. I was told that you cannot book a day room ahead of time, so when we docked we went to the hotel to ask for a day room. They had one available at a cost of around 200 dollars for all of us. We then checked in changed in the room and went to the pool for 5 wristbands. From reading on this board quite a bit I believe they do not sometimes even admit to having day rooms when you call them in advance. You can always try the day you dock, and if you are turned down you will only be out the cost of the taxi, but you can also see the beautiful resort.

Quite honestly, I think Nassau sucked. I was not impressed with The Atlantis. I think I would have been very disappointed if I had shelled out the money for a day room ( that was my original plan). Due to the uncertainty of our intinerary (Hurricane Jeanne) I decided against it. I am so glad I did. Atlantis is pretty to look at from far away, but I was not impressed up close.

I LOVED Atlantis!!! You can only book a day room at Atlantis the day you arrive. We paid around $185.00 for a day room. It was a loooong walk to the pool area but still worth it. We also showered in the room before leaving.

We have five in our family and were able to book a day room at Atlantis for $150. This was shortly after a hurricane though so the resort was empty. I called from the ship and made the reservation. Comfort Suites told me only four people for $195!
Personally, I did not like Atlantis at all! There were abusive "salesman" on the beach that tried to insult people into renting jet skis, etc. and the birds were so bad by the pool that they literally took food from our children's hands. It was scary. The good points were the slides and the aquarium. I think it was worth $150 for five people just for those two things alone but I won't go back again.

The day rooms at The Atlantis can only be rented on the day you wish to use them, not ahead of time. The day room program there also is the only way to have 5 people in the room as they only allow up to 4 when booking the room in the traditional manner. (The Comfort Suites does not have a day room program at all.) The price of the day room depends on what time of year it is as well as what building you are in. During the low season, the rates seem to be $150 for the Coral Tower and $200 for the Royal Tower and $200 for the Coral and $250 for The Royal during the high season. For some reason they don't use the Beach Towers for day room, probably due to the fact that they book the quickest as they are the cheapest, just like the Cat 11's on the cruise ships!
We really enjoyed the Atlantis and I'm very happy that we spent the $250 on the room. The Royal Tower was great and was right next to the pools and slides, no walk at all. My kids still talk about the day here and it was a highlight of our cruise.

Well they apparently don't call them "day rooms" because nobody knew what I was talking about. Or at least they didn't seem to. I then asked what people on cruise ships do when they come in for the day, that I had heard you can get a room. She told me they reserve a one night room -- same difference. When I inquired about 5 people, she told me we would have to book two rooms. I got the same answer from Comfort Suites. Nobody knew what a day room was and they told me I needed to reserve a room for the night. The prices I was quoted were in the range you are showing. We will check into it the day of the cruise and see if we get a different answer.

I see you have 5 people -- so obviously it worked for you. I hope we can do it. $250 I don't mind -- it is the thought of reserving two rooms at over $500 that makes me not so interested. lol Oh good I see a few of you have had success doing this with 5 people on the actual day of the cruise. We will find out in one month :)

I just saw on the news that because of hurricane season the Atlantis hotel had rates as low as $95 a night!!!! Just saw it this morning and thought of the cruise people.

I guess it wouldn't work since you are only booking the room for the day and not a regular night rate??

Man, that sounds like a great deal!! I think it's only good till the end of NOvember.

I've been to Nassau 5 times.

This last time (Oct 1), since we didn't get to go to CC, I thought we would try Blue Lagoon Beach Day. It was a nice beach. You could swim on the ocean side or in the lagoon. There were hammocks and picnic tables.

No one was hassling you to buy anything.
(ok they did take pictures on the island and then ask if you wanted them later on, but not Pushy.)

For a family of 5 it would cost approx. $150 (adults @38, kids I think were around $23 or so).

Lunch is included in that price on the island.
(Not a buffet but OK. cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches....and two sides)

The only down I saw to this trip was that the boat ride takes about 40 minutes each way but the scenery along the way is gorgeous.

Did you call the resorts directly or simply call the 800 number here in the states? I had actually called both resorts directly in the Bahamas. I was told by the Atlantis that the day rooms were from use from the morning hours when we arrived until 6 pm and they would allow up to 5 in the room. I then called the hotel again from The Wonder and booked the day room the morning we arrived. Our room was ready the minute we got there and we had to be out of the room by 6 PM.

Carolyn, I did call the local numbers in the Bahamas. We will try to get a day room the day we are there. Sounds like that is the way to go. How do you call them from the ship? Do we need to take a calling card on the ship? Are there phones in the rooms?

thanks goofyforlife. Would that be an excursion we could decide on that day? or would we need to book that in advance?

Can you tell this is our first Disney cruise? DH and I went on a cruise (royal carribean) 13 years ago, so it has been awhile.

There are phones in the cabins so you would call directly from there. Don't bother with your calling card because you have to pay their charges. The phone call was about $12 for us. I made sure to have all my info ready and my credit card in hand when I called so that I could make the call as quickly as possible to keep the cost down. You don't have to call from the ship, you can just take the chance and take a cab there. I only did it as I didn't want to waste my time taking a cab there and back if a room wasn't available as we had already seen the Atlantis on a previous Disney cruise so I wanted to know ahead of time if a day room was available. Some cell phone also work from here so you may be able to use your cell phone as well.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

DCL lets you book shore tours in advance (60 days thru 2 days prior to sailing). Look under ports of call - Nassau - Shore Excursions on the DCL site.

We didn't book in advance though. We booked on the ship at shore tours desk on the first day.

Good Luck....Say hi to CC for us...

(we weren't able to get there this time)
