No longer selling discounted tickets after 9/15 - Why?

While no name is usually printed on a pre-paid ticket, when a Multi-Day Ticket is used at the Disneyland Resort, two things happen, a photo of you is taken and attached to the specific ticket, and the gate CM will ask you to place your name on it, and makes sure you do before entering the parks. So there is a name on the ticket when first used, and prevents a guest from handing it off to another person for some of the days.

Yeah, I realize that once you use the ticket that no one else can. I just seem to be having things happen all the time lately that prevent me from taking trips, so just wanted to make sure if we went ahead and bought the tickets and can´t go, that someone else can use them.

I bought mine through Sam's Club/Last Minute Travel on Tuesday and received the eTickets today. The date on the tickets says "valid through January 13, 2018." (I would have thought 2017, so was pleasantly surprised.)

I'd look a little more closely at the fine print to be sure. First use for that expiration would usually be by December 31, 2017. January 13, 2018 is the 14 day expiration date post December 31, 2017.

Do Last Minute Travel tickets have names on them? Just checking because if we buy tix and then are unable to go, wondering if we could just give them to friends or family, or are names printed on them?

They will take your picture and have you sign the ticket at the turnstile, so you will not be able to give your left over disney days to friends/family

The PP's comment was about giving the tickets away because they are unable to go. They did not ask about giving away "unused days". That's a whole different thing.

Just to clarify, a few tickets are pre-printed with a name, usually those issued directly by Disney in regards to some special program to prevent abuse.

The vast majority have no name on them when issued.

When you arrive to the park for the first time, then all multi-day tickets are connected to an individual with a name hand written on it, and a photo placed in the computer system to prevent use by another person later.

Disney has always stated they would work with unused tickets. For example, a ticket with an expiration date. Disney will usually honor the value of an totally unused ticket towards a current ticket. So if the price went up, they would request the difference in the price to get the new ticket.

So just and FYI.....when I bought tickets yesterday from LMT, I couldn't find availability if my end date was past 9/15/16 so I'm not sure if that means they are not longer going to be selling the discounted tickets or not but if you thinking about purchasing them you might want to double check before that date.

Ahh I missed that part somehow. That makes sense then.

I get them at a discount through my alumni association. Wondering if if I should make sure to purchase by then...

We purchased through my Alumni Association for our trip in July. Just went to their website to see if I could see anything and there is the same message saying all Corporate Discounts with Disneyland will end on September 15th, 2016, so it looks like those discounts are included too, unfortunately.... I would definitely buy your tickets before then if you can.

That discount made a noticeable difference for us last month (3 adult and 2 child tickets) and next year our youngest will need a ticket and we will have another son that will age into the adult ticket price. That discount was something we were looking forward to using again....

So with Multi-Day tickets, as long as the first day is before Dec. 31 right, the others can be after?

I just checked LMTClub and they are still selling tickets for up to Dec 31, 2016.

The issue isn't the expiration date, it's the sale date. Any tickets you buy will be good till the expiration date printed on the tickets, commonly December 31, 2017 (but check the fine print on the site you use). You won't be able to make the purchase after September 15, possibly earlier if the site sells out.

The "WHY" part of this question is making me think that they will implement some sort of varying pricing for hoppers like they did with the daily tickets (ie, it would cost more for a 5-day hopper during Christmas/New Year's than during less busy times). Which makes me think I should buy our 5-day hoppers ASAP for our upcoming planned trip for Christmas/New Year's!

Are you sure LMT is still selling the tickets?? I'm on their website and when I enter in any dates, even for dates before 9/15, it's showing zero availability :(

I thought about this, too, but that could have still been re-worked into a discount program. Universal, for example, has the tiered system, but still offers discounts to union workers. I don't know what Disney's game is. It might just make it easier for them to control their tickets. It might make them more money. There are a ton of reasons why, but I'm not sure we'll ever truly know.

It might even be something as simple as before the Internet, they didn't have the capacity to sell all the tickets directly, so they went through wholesalers. But now that they have the capacity and enough experience to trust it, they're happier selling direct and cutting out the middlemen. It may enable them to have more complicated pricing schemes, but that's just one of the benefits they get. They also get customer addresses, more detailed sales data, etc.

Just as an FYI, I couldn't see the LMT tickets as being available on the website, but I chatted with a travel specialist and they ended up calling me and I could buy tickets over the phone from them. I was planning on waiting until closer to my trip to buy the tickets (Oct. 28-29), but I didn't want to risk losing the discount, which is pretty substantial. ($353 compared to Disneyland.com's $390!)

If you are on the website, you have to put the end date before 9/15/16 to get it to work. I bought my a week ago but DS &DLI bought there's last night. Our trip is for 13-21. Hope that helps.

Am I gauging this right?

People: Disneyland needs to do something about the crowds!
Disneyland: We're ending corporate discounts.
People: Disney is greedy and raising prices again!
