No Longer coming to you Live from Disney World! Take 3 DDW'S TAMBU LOUNGE 8/6

Previously we left the tea that had resembled the tour length of the SS Minnow on Gilligan's Island.....a three hour tea, a three hour tea!! ;)

In actuality, the tea lasted a little longer than three hours and trust me, once we all paid, you've never seen DIS dining reviewers move so fast. We all hit our respective paths to reach our final destinations for Sunday. We were headed to Hollywood Studios, as was, I believe, Sue aka Marshall's Mommy. Where in Hollywood Studios were we headed? And as the time was currently 5:30 pm and our reservation was at 6:30 pm would we, could we make it on time? Read on to find out.....

On the first day of our Christmas trip, our family chose to eat...Dinner at Mama Melrose.

Since we had driven to WDW, DH and the kids picked me up at the GF. DH did a phenomenal job of getting three kids up from a Disney rest and motivated to come pick me up. Now we of course had to park in the very last rows at HS so we boarded a tram with only a few minutes to spare to be on time for our reservation. With the baby we had to bring in a bag, so DH and little DD went through bag check while DS, DD1, and I went ahead into the park and fairly well sprinted to the very back left corner to Mama Melrose. We were about ten minutes late, not too bad considering. We had about a ten minute wait and DH and little DD made it about 5 minutes after we did.

It had been a little while since we had dined at Mama Melrose. DH and I did choose new to us entrees while the kids went with their old individual standbys.

I should note that the kids and DH were hungry as they had not attended an afternoon tea with all sorts of goodies like someone in the family. ;)

DH selected the Chicken Campanelle. This consisted of campanelle pasta with grilled chicken, broccoflower, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach, and sweet onions.

After just sharing the LTT Colony salad and dessert with me, DH made pretty quick work of this pasta. He liked the different veggies included with the pasta and chicken.

I chose the Penne Pasta with grilled chicken and four cheese sauce based on the recommendation of our server.

I was able to share this meal with DD2. She really enjoyed the penne pasta and the grilled chicken. I found the four cheese sauce to be a little bland. The grilled chicken did have a good flavor.

DS went with his tried and true cheese pizza.

He inhaled his pizza so I can only assume it was good. It certainly hit the spot along with a dinner roll or two.

DD chose pasta with sauce on the side.

DD enjoyed her plain pasta, though I do believe she ultimately added the sauce and a little parmesan cheese.

With three other Italian meals to go in the trip, would Mama Melrose stand up to the challenge? Stay tuned to find out! ;)

I will leave you with two photos of the Osborne Spectacle of Lights. We had a great first evening in Hollywood Studios and a great first day of Disney dining!

I've always quite fancied eating at mama Melrose but it doesn't appeal to my hubby at all.

Would love to see the Osborne Lights but I fear that won't happen any time soon :sad2:

Thanks DeeDee! Loved the Tea/Gilligan's Island analogy! :lmao: I guess if we had to be stranded for 3 years somewhere, the flagship resort of Disney World wouldn't be a bad place...not bad at all! :thumbsup2

And then there were 7...

DeeDee's Mama Melrose review is our final one from Sunday, Dec. 8th. With Patty's departure on Sunday, we were now down to 7 dining reporters. And perhaps 7 was the theme for Monday because I believe 7 is also the number of meals we will be reviewing...although there might be a surprise bonus one or two added in there somewhere. (But I like surprises, especially when they involve food.) Also included in our reviews for Monday, Dec. 9th will be our Epcot Bar Crawl, of which there were 7 of us in attendance (plus a surprise guest) :thumbsup2. Sadly, we didn't come close to "crawling" to 7 bars. :sad2: But maybe, just maybe I imbibed in 7 drinks in 7 hours??? :rolleyes1 So stay tuned to find out if the Epcot Bar Crawl turned into the Epcot "Barb" Crawl. ;)

I am so excited so many Dis legends will be there next October. I would totally like to join in on meets. I think Ghirardelli is in order as well.

My suggestion on Signature Dining are my two favorites Il Mulino and Blue zoo. Another thing to consider is Wine Wednesdays at Jiko. There is my input :)

Ooh I am just playing catch up and it looks like October planning is already underway :)
We've only been to the F&W Classic once before but we purchased our wristbands in advance, just had to head to a check in desk when we arrived to redeem our vouchers for actual wristbands
You can sign up to receive email notifications about the event and they will also let you know when tickets go on sale
Can't dig out the link at the moment but just google the event and it should come up :)

Soooo, I have said how much I like breakfast food but absolutely detest breakfast time as it requires getting up earlier than I would like to! However, I had to make an exception on Monday morning because I am the one that asked for someone to join me at ...

So Barb, Brenda & Em and I met prior to the planned bar crawl for breakfast.

I really like the inside of the restaurant and the open kitchen ...

First the menu ...

First up for me, a pot of Earl Grey tea

And the American Breakfast with Kalamata Olive toast ...

I truly love the kalamata toast. It is the main reason that I wanted to come to this breakfast. The eggs were good, bacon fine and the potatoes perfectly seasoned.

All in all a really enjoyable breakfast again with really wonderful company!

Barb's review of our Monday, Dec. 9th breakfast at...

I kept all my dining receipts from this trip in order to help jog my memory when months later I'm trying to remember what the heck I ordered, as sometimes my photos just aren't enough. Looking at the receipt for my Kouzzina breakfast I found that I had paid for two entrees, one that I remembered eating (and have photo evidence of) and the other I was drawing a complete blank on. :confused3 Then it dawned on me that I had treated Em to breakfast this morning as a small token of my appreciation.

But once again I'm getting ahead of myself {hitting the rewind button now back to Sunday night}.

Needless to say I was in a very happy mood when we left California Grill. It had been a wonderful day which started with my favorite Disney breakfast food (Kona's pineapple-macadamia pancakes), included a very special but emotionally "draining" Afternoon Tea (remember the tears ;)), and had just concluded with a fantastic meal at my favorite restaurant. But since I had been up since the butt crack of dawn to get packed up for my move to the Boardwalk before going to breakfast at the Polynesian, I was beyond tired and offered to pay for a cab back to the Boardwalk...since I'm pretty sure that Brenda had treated on the last two cab rides. After we had gotten into the cab I remembered that I had quickly switched purses before leaving for dinner and had forgotten to transfer over any cash. But having seen Brenda use her credit card to pay, I was confident that I could do the same. So I was sitting there in a state of nirvana (the blissful kind :cloud9:, not in Washington... the home state of Kurt Cobain ;)) thinking about our great day and before you know it we pulled up to the Boardwalk entrance. I quickly pulled out my credit card and swiped it in the machine, just as I had seen Brenda do. Though the transaction seemed to have gone through ok, our cab driver (we will call him Mr. Buzz Kill ) said it didn't. We argued back and forth with him for a bit (well, mostly Brenda did, and I just nodded in agreement ::yes::). But Mr. BK insisted that he wasn't going to get paid unless he did the credit card transaction manually. I was so tired at this point and a little afraid he was going to hold us hostage in the backseat of his car, so I surrendered my card to him to make an imprint in his manual machine. I figured I would just monitor my account for the next few days and contest it if I was charged more than once. So Mr. BK finally stopped whining about not getting paid and Brenda, Em, and I got out of the car and started to walk towards the hotel door. It was then that the very smart and observant Miss Emily asked if Mr. BK had given me my credit card back. Hmm...I thought so, but let me check just to make sure. Well, Emily was right...no card!!! :scared1: Luckily the cab was still parked there, as he was waiting for another group (that was standing there talking) to get in. I opened up the front seat passenger side door and told him that he had not given me my card back. Well, the other people thought I was trying to steal their cab and started yelling at me. Thankfully, Brenda was right there to hold them off and prevent a fist fight from breaking out. ;) So Mr. BK does the whole innocent act..."I gave you your card back ma'am", while showing me his empty credit card machine. But I persisted and lo and behold my credit card suddenly appeared under his left leg!!! :headache:

So now you know why I am indebted to Em for life...or at least for breakfast the next day. But in all seriousness, she saved me a huge hassle and for that she will always be my hero. But my story doesn't end there folks....

Now I'm not sure if it was because I was so mad or because old age is settling in but for the life of me I couldn't remember my new room number and of course in my rush to leave I had forgotten to put the key card with the room number in my purse. So I had two choices a) Walk up and down the hallway of my floor doing the "Mickey to Mickey" with my Magic Band until I found a door that would open, or b) Embarrass myself by going to the front desk and admitting that I had no idea what my room number was. I chose "b" as I thought it was the fastest way to get to this...

The next morning I got to sleep in a bit later than usual as we were meeting for breakfast right there on the Boardwalk at Kouzzina. Yay...no cab!!! :thumbsup2 I met up with Vicki, Brenda, and Em and we were seated inside the restaurant. The only other time I had dined at Kouzzina, we were seated outside. Does anyone remember this photo from that breakfast with my two daughters, one of which hates to get up early in the morning to have breakfast?

Anyway, at that breakfast I ordered and very much enjoyed the...

French Toast Baklava - Grilled Fig and Anise country bread topped with baked apples, honey, walnuts and cinnamon with your choice of Bacon or Chicken Sausage - $11.99 (December 2013 price)

Unfortunately, this time I was not nearly as happy with my choice. As you might be able to tell from my photo, the edges of the toast were pretty burnt. :( But hey, at least the price of it didn't go up in the 1 1/2 years since I had last had it. ;)

Oh, but don't worry folks, because I had a back-up plan already in place.
Stay tuned for my breakfast #2. :thumbsup2

If it was me I would, but only because I love to eat. It really is nice to sit and relax around 1pm for 1-2 hours at a restaurant. It definitely rejuvenates you. However, you can also find a nice counter service place to sit and relax. Maybe do a mix of counter service and table service.

Thanks, I think taking a break in the ac will be nice and not having to deal with finding a table and 3 hungry cranky boys! Would a restaurant make a grilled cheese if it was not on the menu? Crazy question I know but my oldest ds has sensory issues and a very small list of foods he will eat. It's a little frustrating because there are so many places I would like to go but there is nothing he will eat, example BOG.Another question is Hurrican hannas(not sure if thats the name) for everyone or is it a pool side place just for guests staying at the hotel? Only asking because they have grilled cheese! Thanks for any help you can give :worship:

I'm sorry that I can't help you with your first question, as it's been a long time since my kids were little. Perhaps DeeDee might be able to help or maybe one of the readers? I can though answer your question about Hurricane Hanna's. Though it is by the Yacht & Beach Club pool, it is open to the general public. It is actually located just outside of the restricted (for hotel guests only) pool area and has a seating area where you can sit and enjoy your food. Another option there at the Yacht & Beach Club is Beaches & Cream. I'm pretty sure they still have grilled cheese on the menu along with burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream. You can also get ice cream from their take-out window if you decide to eat at Hurricane Hanna's but would like to finish up your meal with some ice cream. {My recommendation for ice cream there...No Way Jose sundae} :thumbsup2

DISNEYLAND

However, I did just receive this "live" update from Paula... :woohoo:

"Good afternoon Barb!! So after an hour delay leaving San Jose...we were all set to leave when the plane had issues and we had to deplane and wait to board a new plane...We checked in to our hotel. One of my roommates showed up at the exact same time and we both deemed it necessary to find food!! We both had the same thought too!!"

"Corn dog!! I did go with apples though!"

"I didn't want too much as I have dinner plans in just a few hours!!"

Barb, glad to be your wingman with that cab driver. He was so shifty! Thankfully Em was paying attention since I was so distracted after sitting in the back of the cab for 10 minutes arguing with the guy and his antics. :)

Brenda's Kouzzina Breakfast review

I'll say this.... I'm glad that Vicki and Barb chose to eat here this trip! It had been 4 long Disney trips without a Kouzzina breakfast in our rotation so I was excited to return.

Since Em and I were staying there at BWV it was a short walk down to the restaurant where we met up with Vicki and Barb. Thanks ladies for waiting for us.

This is such a lovely restaurant. I love the lighting and the dark wood décor.

For Em’s breakfast choice she went didn’t want a big breakfast so chose a healthy option of the Greek yogurt and fresh berries. She said that it was perfectly light and delicious.

Greek Yogurt and Fresh Berries with House Made Granola $8.99 (Compliments of Barb - thank you!)

A little background on the logic behind my breakfast selection….Last visit in February 2012 I had ordered the Breakfast Skillet and wished I had made a different choice since I wasn’t thrilled with the potato hash. At the time I noticed someone who had ordered the waffles at the table next to us. They looked amazing. Since they had made a lasting impression I knew at some point I would try them. However, after reading many breakfast reviews since then about the anise fig French toast, that became a serious contender! Now I was torn between the French toast and the waffles. The waffle won out. As always, I subbed a scrambled egg for the breakfast meat.

I was definitely glad that I chose the waffle – even if it wasn’t in the magical Mickey shape. I felt it was a little heavy on the mascarpone cheese but that wasn’t a problem to scoop it off to the side. I loved the crunch of the pecans and the drizzle of honey. Definitely a great choice!

Classic Golden Waffle with Whipped Mascarpone cheese, Honey, and Chopped Pecans with choice of Bacon or Chicken sausage $10.49

As an added bonus treat, Barb shared a bite of her anise fig French toast – which was amazing!! Honestly, I think I liked this better than the waffle especially since the bite included some banana.

Hi Joh! :wave2:

My favorite entree at Mama Melrose is the chicken parmesan. It is a really large portion so DH and I usually split it.

They do have a strip steak on the menu with a mac and cheese. Maybe your hubby might enjoy it?

I do hope you get to see the Osborne lights one day. They really are amazing!

It has been my experience with the kids that as long as a restaurant has the ingredients needed to make the requested item, they will do so, particularly with your oldest son's sensory issues. There is an option for special requests when a dining ADR is made. You may want to indicate your child's needs in this section. Disney is great about special requests and they will do their best to accommodate you.

BOG does have a fairly limited kid's menu, but they will allow you to order plain pasta. I don't know if your son will eat pasta, but it is available.

Another tactic might be to ask your server what all options are available for children as most have more options than are listed on the kid's menu.

The Plaza in the MK has a great grilled cheese on the kid's menu and they will even make an adult "double decker" grilled cheese if asked.

Beaches and Cream has a really good grilled cheese as well.

Ohana will allow kids to special order items which includes grilled cheese.

Capt. Cook's at the Poly has a terrific adult grilled cheese as well as a great kid's grilled cheese.

Thanks, it does sound fabulous. Maybe I'll talk him into it. As for the Osborne lights, maybe one day when we can go in November rather than over the Christmas holiday.

Barb, what a nightmare experience with that taxi driver. So, did you end up getting charged twice?

Breakfast at Kouzzina looks like a nice option, although I would have had to send that French toast back Barb. I hate the 'chargrilled' effect (as Gary calls it). I would prefer things on the undercooked side rather than burned.

Thank you for all the great info. I am going to look at the menus again and see who has bread and cheese :rotfl: That is great to know about Ohanas because we really want to go there.I love this board and being able to see the pictures. it is so important for me becaue he will only eat certain chicken nuggets and if the look different he wont eat them and that goes for most food! I want it to be a fun and relaxing trip for all :) We will do breakfast in the room and have lots of vanilla yogurt and applesauce on hand. It is great to know that the restaurants will work with me even when its not an allergy.

No, thankfully I was only charged once. I probably should have gotten his name and reported Mr. BK to the cab company, but I was just so tired at that point that I really wasn't thinking clearly. Oh well, lesson learned.

I would have considered sending the burnt French toast back, but we were a bit pressed for time since we were meeting the rest of the group at Les Halles at 10:00 to begin our Epcot Bar Crawl. I already had a breakfast snack in mind from the bakery ;), so I just ate the apples, figs and around the burnt edges of the toast and I was good to go. :thumbsup2
