Okay, here we go!
To give you a brief overview, we drove from SC to the World on Saturday, December 7th. We checked into the absolutely beautiful Wilderness Lodge around 7 pm and hotfooted it over to the International Gateway entrance to Epcot to activate the kids AP vouchers/magic bands. We were getting close to Illuminations, which I did not want to miss, so we grabbed a quick dinner at Les Halles of Ham and Cheese croissants. We literally swung by L'Artisan des Glaces to pick up a scoop of Mango sorbet for me, Lemon sorbet for DH, Gingerbread ice cream for DS, and Chocolate ice cream for DD1.
We hurried to the bridge between France and England to watch Illuminations with the holiday tag, which was just AMAZING!!
Little known to me at the time, this viewing spot was actually our first encounter with what I called the "Six degrees of Barb" experience, similar to the oft expressed six degrees of Kevin Bacon. Barb and the Illuminations cruise group were under the very bridge my family and I were standing on! It was amazing how close the paths crossed or almost crossed over the length of the trip!
And now with the general first evening explanation covered, onto the review.
On the first day of our Christmas trip, our family chose to eat...Breakfast at Kona Cafe(if you sing this to "On the first day of Christmas.....it almost works!)
We tend to eat at Kona for breakfast once every trip. We had an early ADR, and we were seated about five minutes after they opened.
Despite being one of the first tables to be seated, like Barb, Paula, Hunter, Brenda, and Em experienced, we found the service to be slow and honestly somewhat scattered.
DH had Tonga Toast with bacon.
Tonga Toast is DH's favorite "go to" at Kona and while the service was a little lacking, he found his breakfast to be just as good as ever.
I had scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes.
Like Brenda, I like a little protein for breakfast. I really enjoyed it and felt fueled up to take on MK!
DS had French Toast and DD1 had a scrambled egg with cinnamon toast.
As you can see by DS's woefully sad, lonely french toast plate, he gave his bacon to his sister. The kids enjoyed their breakfast and were more than ready to RIDE SOME RIDES!!
As we waited, and waited for the check, I noticed that I thought I recognized two people out in the waiting area, Paula and Hunter. A few minutes later, Brenda and Em arrived followed by Barb. As I recognized them from their dining report photos, I scared the bejeebus out of them by walking up and introducing myself after first ascertaining that yes indeed, my eyes were not playing tricks on me. I would have loved to stay and chat, but I fear the buzz offspring would have mutinied had I delayed the MK any longer.
It was okay though, because I knew I would be seeing them all later that afternoon!
