No Longer Any Travel Through Sam's Club

FYI to all, while shopping for car rental rates, saw a note on Sam's Club that effective March 1, 2011 they no longer are offering any kind of travel services. Which of course includes car rental.

We are members but have never used their travel services. We did however get a flier in our last renewal notice where they provided contract codes for the major car rental agencies. Perhaps they are going back to this vs renting through their site. More like Costco does. Costco provides contract and coupon codes vs. being able to search rentals directly through their site. I prefer this overall anyway.

Their code for $$ off La Quinta hotels still works today so like dioxide12 said it is probably just going to self serve.

Gosh, I hope the car rental and hotel codes are still good! I never use Sam's "service", but I almost always use their codes!

Here's what it says on the Sam's website:

To ensure we're bringing you the most value for your Membership, we continually evaluate the products and services we offer. This means that we may periodically make changes in an effort to serve you better. As a result of a recent assessment, we want to inform you that beginning March 1, 2011, Sam's Club will no longer offer travel services of any kind.

Through this transition, your existing reservation(s) will not be affected. If you have any questions or need to make a change to your existing reservation on or after March 1, 2011 please use the contacts listed below.

I tried the Choice Hotels discount code, to make a reservation for April, and it will let me enter the Sam's code, and recognizes it as such, but won't pull up any rates at all for "significant savings organization." This is going to be a killer for us! They gave the best car and hotel discounts. I just don't get it . Why would they do this? Does Sam's pay a fee to companies to be able to offer these discounts to their customers, and they can't afford to do this anymore? I'd WAY rather pay an additional $5 on my membership fee to retain these services. Sigh... maybe if Comfort Inn notices a drop in their room sales, they'll ask Sam's to come back (as IF.. how naive )

we've used it too, but found other codes out there even better & easy enough to use (whether joining free affinity group or no ID requirement) do a google search or flyertalk to have your pick.

imo SAMs codes used to provide rates on rental cars, but last few years many other legitimate codes have handily beat them.
