I just read this weekend about another restaurant that is forbidding young children (this restaurant forbids kids under 6). A couple weeks ago it was Malaysia airlines forbidding kids on some of its routes. Not sure what to make of this. What do you think? Is it okay to ban kids or is it simply wrong?

No kids allowed restaurants aren't new. Cruise ships and resorts have them so does Disney. I think there are plenty of options for families that a few that aren't family friendly are OK and likely welcomed by many. Even parents like adults only once in a while.

I prefer they ban the parents that allow their kids to *run* wild in restaurants.

edit: forgot *run* :)

It's a private business. They can do whatever they want. Obviously, they've determined that this is something that would work in their business model. There are plenty of restaurants out there that welcome kids. What kind of restaurant is it? I can guarantee they won't lack for customers.

I have no problem with this at all. If you don't like it you dont have to visit their establishment.

I've got no problem with it. People who want to take young children to a restaurant have many other options.

I would enjoy an adult only spot besides a bar - the last time I got to go out without my boys, I had to listen to a baby cry the whole time, why did I bother leaving mine at home with a babysitter then get to listen to someone else not tend to their kid.

I have no problem with some restaurants setting an age limit. There are millions of family-oriented restaurants nation-wide. There are significantly fewer which specifically cater to adults. Frankly, I don't mind kids in a restaurant most of the time--well behaved kids are never a problem. I am highly offended by families who think it's okay to inflict their little hellions on the rest of us because, awwww, they're only chiiiillldrennn...running around, throwing things over the back of my chair, cursing and screaming and generally throwing stupid tantrums. I blame the adults who let them act out.

As the mother of two children, ages 8 and 13, I have no problem with restaurants that chose not to cater to children. There are tons of other restaurants for us to chose from if we are out to dinner with our children. I also like the idea of a place the my DH and I can eat dinner without children too. Completely free market concept for me. Let's face it, while many parents have taught their children to behave while in public, others have not. Sounds like a great place to eat for date night.

I think it's nice that some restaurants offer that for people who don't want to deal with kids. Some people don't want a meal ruined by a child screaming through it while the parents doing nothing about the screaming child.

I think it is great. That way people who don't like to be around kids don't have to be! Not everything needs to be kid friendly. I love kids and the thought of a grown ups only dinner sounds nice :)

What is to even think about????

Really.....

My issue would be with those who think that their little kids have some kind of inalienable right to ANYWHERE at ANYTIME.

How incredible that this is even a topic of discussion.

I'd make a reservation, ASAP!!!

Having said that...

I think it is fine. My guess is the target audience for these businesses is not kids and their business would not suffer because of it, but if they continue to allow kids in their restaurants (or whatever the business) it would alienate the cliental they do want.

From a personal standpoint I doubt these are types of places I would want bring kids to anyway, not only because I don't think they would enjoy themselves, but also I don't think I would enjoy myself.

Its kinda weird for the airline to ban kids... Do you know what the reasoning is?:confused3 Honestly, I've seen more adults on airlines causing a commotion than children. Mine just sleep! ;)

Restaurants I can totally understand. If I go to the trouble to get a babysitter and go out to a nice, quiet meal with my husband, I have to admit, its a little annoying when the toddler at the next table is whining over his foie gras.:rotfl:

Supply will always follow demand and it seems like there are people who would frequent this restaurant as evidenced by this thread. There is a reason Sandals resorts are popular.
