Just to update you regarding this weeks' cruise: because of a possible hurricane later in the week, the Magic will be at Castaway Cay Sunday and not Key West. Depending on the weather later in the week - they may be at Costa Ma.. Friday. All subject to change, of course. Am sure guests on board will update you all later. Nat :Pinkbounc

I'm sure this will be an interesting cruise for all. I look forward to hearing from everyone.

I was wondering why you said key west was dropped on the other thread...makes sense they replaced it with CC.

What/Where is Costa Ma?

Weather forcast predicts that the Magic wont be able to dock at CC on Friday, therefore, so as not to disappoint guests, I presume they are headed there tomorrow. Maybe, if the hurricane doesnt do as predicted, they may go to Key West on Friday, instead of Costa Maya - which is the plan right now.Nat:Pinkbounc

This will be another interesting week aboard the Magic. With the Hurricane Frances already a category 4 and predicted to stay that way for the next several days, I'm glad the Captain decided to avoid Castaway Cay later in the week.

I wonder how this will affect the Wonder, especially Thursday's sailing?

Disney proves once again that it cares about its passengers and their safety. It also shows that they know how important Castaway Cay is to many cruisers so they are doing what they can to make sure they dock there. Way to go DCL!

How nice to be able to enjoy CC without worrying about packing up that night or rushing back to get the kids in the farewell show! Hope that they enjoy a wonderful day tomorrow!

I'm glad that the next group of cruisers get their day on CC, but isn't there a few CM's that stay on the island. Could it be that the Magic is also going to CC on sunday to get those people off the island before the storm hits it.

The Wonder is scheduled to be on Castaway Cay on Tuesday and from what I see in the forecasts it doesn't look like the island would be in any danger till after that. When we were there last May I learned that the hair braiders and some of the other folks who work on Castaway Cay don't live there but come over by boat from Abaco, the nearest island, so if the Castaway Cay is in danger the folks on the island could be probably be evacuated to one of the larger nearby islands.

Does anyone know what Disney did the last time a hurricane threatened the island. I think I remember reading that a hurricane hit Castaway Cay several years ago. What did they do then?

My best friend is sailing on the Wonder on Sunday 9/29. I hope the seas around that area aren't too rough and they make it to their ports.

WE sail on Saturday and the only concern I have is air turbulance! Once I get into the Mouse's paws, I feel much safer!

We were diverted two years ago from Hurricane Lili - Western to San Juan, St. Thomas and started and ended the trip at CC - what a way to travel!!!

Not too worried about where we will go - just want to get on the ship!

Reine....I asked that very question of one of the tram drivers after Floyd. That was the hurricane that did so much damage to CC.

She told me they evacuated the CM's who live on CC to what she called the "mainland"..... I said "where is that"? She pointed behind her and said "there"... I could barely see an island off in the distance. I said "that's the mainland?" She said it was a bigger Island and I think she said it was Abaco(mispelled I'm sure). I said "what did you do"...she said "we just rode it out"..
It may be at a higher elevation than CC or there may be some hills that people go into for safety.

I don't know if they do this for every storm, or if The M or The W take them off if there is time....that would be a new question to ask. I would think somebody would have to be close by to go back and assess damages pretty quickly.

Since I hear this stuff 24-7-365....I am always asking these types of questions.

Hey phyllis--another thread posed the question of what the cruises do in the event that CC is too damaged to be utlized for recreation. Is it just an extra day at sea, or do that perhaps do Freeport in addition to Nassau? Any thoughts or knowledge on this?

I asked the captain (Hans) about huricannes on my second cruise because my first cruise was the week before Floyd hit in 1999. He said that's the only time he took a ship towards a huricanne. They went out to pick up the castaway cay islanders just before Floyd hit. So I believe that the CC CM's were on the Magic and not on Greater Abaco Island.

What/Where is Costa Maya?
It's on the mainland in Mexico, south of Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula (about 150 miles south of Cancun which is north of Coz.)

Heres one link to
Costa Maya
