No Grammys Thread?

Unless a performer I like is going to do something, I don't bother watching. This year, I didn't care enough about any of the performances to tune in.

I'm pretty much over awards shows anyway. It's all so self serving.

There's nothing like narcissistic millionaires giving each other awards to make me want to turn off the TV and read a book. 🙄
As for the Grammys, I agree with the above. Awards shows used to be more light-hearted and glamorous. Now, they take themselves way too seriously.

According to the memes, B'Affleck didn't seem to be in the swing of the event! LOL

I really enjoyed last night's Grammys. The 50 years of hip hop had me dancing on my sofa, the Stevie Wonder medley was awesome, and there were some really great acceptance speeches. The more I hear Lizzo talk, the more of a Lizzo fan I become. <3
Did you see Lizzo with Seth Meyers? 😍🤣

I'd have been having about as good a time as Ben, that's for sure!

I can't remember that last time I watched any awards show.
I didn't watch the Grammys, but at least I had heard of SOME of the winners.

I do listen to Casey Kasem's American Top 40 every Saturday morning on 70's on 7 and take part in the discussion on Twitter. Some amazing music was produced then, although it is interesting at how bad some of the top sellers were. And there are always a few songs my wife and I have no recollection of in the countdown.
I’ve been listening to 70s on 7 quite frequently over the past few weeks. Some of the songs I liked back then sound really awful today. And there is plenty I don’t recognize.

Music of decades gets romanticized, when in fact there is plenty of complete crap from every decade. Tony Orlando & Dawn??? Seriously??? That stuff would clear the visitors room at an assisted living facility in 2023.

As far as not recognizing some of those charted songs, I think it's safe to say many of those songs that never made it beyond the lower regions of the charts likely didn't get a lot of airplay, or the exposure may have been a regional phenomenon. "Top 40" radio stations didn't usually play 40 different songs at a time, it was more like 20-30. The Billboard charts didn't dictate what was played, but rather reflected airplay and sales. So when you hear a song that peaked at #37 it's possible you never did hear it.:)

I just remember my grandmother lecturing us on how today's (80s at the time) music wasn't any good and blah blah blah.

I just said yeah, but who can match the poetry and artistic genius of this: I started singing in a mocking tone. When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie that's amore.........

My mom just started cracking up and grandma said I see you've raised your son to be disrespectful. She laughed some more and just said well he's gotcha.

Hey, I loved Tony Orlando and Dawn, their songs and their TV show. As for the residents of an assisted living center, well, probably it would since they grew up with the music of the 50's and 60's, not those punk musicians of the 70's
But yes people do get rattled when it is revealed that the best selling song of the entire decade of the 1970's was You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone. Even though the version in the movie of the same name was sung by Ukrainian Kasey Cisyk. My wife was appalled by that, and even more appalled by discovering......in her collection of Vinyl LPs....that she HAD the Debby Boon version. With the passage of time we forget what we liked and bought back then!

I would say this was Bonnie Raitt’s most popular song:

Everyone knows that one, don’t they?

I’m sad if people are giving her a hard time about her win. (Thank you to the poster who posted the video of her song that won, I just sent it to my friend who donated her child’s organs @Lehuaann. She had not heard it.)

I don’t watch the Grammy’s. I could barely get through some of the pictures.
