First off, I never suggested, nor would I, that someone should go breathe PB on an allergic child. That's a ridiculous analogy. But when I have to change what I shop for, how I shop, what I buy, what my kids can eat at home and school, which also changes what DH and I can eat at home, that is truly altering my life. And it's uncalled for, IMO. If a child is in that much danger, they probably shouldn't leave the house.

Perhaps my description went a bit too far without me explaining myself well enough - I certainly didn't mean that you'd do that. I was just thinking of the more extreme cases (which neither you nor I are dealing with, so I'm not suggesting our schools deal with that extreme) where a much smaller exposure results in a larger risk. I just can't imagine either demanding that the child leave school or giving DD the very item that would cause the problem in that extreme case.

Again, imho, not having PB for lunch would be outweighed by the risk of death if that was the level of seriousness. It hasn't changed things nearly as much as your post implies that it would - we eat what we want to at home, DD is capable of brushing her teeth before school if I gave her PB for breakfast, and it's not been terribly restrictive of what we do send as I've found that there's a wide variety of foods that are safe.

Eh. I suspect that you and I have to agree to disagree on certain points. At any rate, it's getting late and I'm gonna try to sign off. :) Thanks to all who have posted respectfully and all best wishes for a safe and effective cure/treatment.......

The idiot comment was made for a specific poster who apparently believes that I am willing to put my son's health at risk just so he can take a 2-hour cruise.

I read fine....

I am sorry this happened to you and it must be a hard time for these kids. Growing up is hard enough without dealing with this extra challenge.

That said; are you upset about the fact your child can't go, or are you upset that you are not getting the same service at the Grand Floridian as you did at the Beach Club. You stated that when you booked their cruise you did not expect to be accommidated. Therefore why are you now expecting to be accommidated. Since you did not expect the Beach Club to accommidate you whey you asked, if they had turned you down would your reaction be the same as it is now?

EUREKA!!! Someone who has finally gotten it!!!! Yes, I was upset that the same service was not offered bc, yes, it had been offered to me before. If the BC had turned me down and explained that it is a policy to not have kids with peanut allergies sail bc they cannot or will not substitute the PB, I would have reacted differently. If someone will take the time to reread my posts, I clearly state frustration over inconsistencies.

pezpam, you've been very respectful, even though we disagree on this. I'm of the opinion that if a child is so allergic that the mere smell of peanuts in the air can cause a fatal reaction, that child should not be in school, period. That is way too much responsibility to put on the school and on other families in the school. My child's problems are my responsibility, not someone else's, and it would be nice if parents of allergic children felt the same way.

Putting aside the peanut issue for a moment, does anyone else feel a little weird sending their young child out on a boat with strangers? I believe the cruise also lets the kids off at different resorts to hunt for treasure, right? This just doesn't sit right with me. It seems that it would be really easy for a child to get lost or taken. And, what happens if a child needs to use a restroom? Does a Cm take them into a resort? I'm just not comfortable with this cruise at all, so I have never signed my kids up. I do tend to overanalyze/overreact to things, though.

Wow, You know I am never sure why people get so firery on the boards. These boards were meant to share information and to be a place where people who love Disney can chat with others who have a common interest. As the mother of an Autistic child, I can understand this mothers desire to have her child experience any and everything that her child wants to do, but I also know that due to so many people suing for every little thing (not implying that the OP would..) I am sure that Disney is just taking the safe way out for all involved. As sad as that is I am glad that they would take the precautions rather that just sweep it under the rug as many places would (either thinking it wouldn't be a big deal or not caring). I know that my son wants to do so much and I want him to have that opportunity - to be denied for his disability is wrong, but to be denied due to safety, I have a little trouble finding as much fault.

I too was concerned but sent my autistic 6 year old on the cruise (his first time away from us) and the kids are very well taken care of and watched. He had a great time and still talks about it. I would recommend highly and I am an admittedly overprotective Mother and had spoken to practically everyone from the boat driver all the way up to the events coordinator about whether or not this would be a good idea and how safe the kids are. My fears were put to rest and I was glad that he went. It was good for both of us.

I said frustrated. Where do you see the words angry? This is getting more ridiculous by the second.
For that matter, where do you see the word 'angry' in 88Keys response?:
Ummmmm....yes I do.....

"I spoke with a CM who was trying to put me through to someone in catering to discuss this further, but no one has gotten back to me and I am very frustrated. I hung up the phone crying after the conversation with the chef."

You have no qualms telling us what upsets you.

Glad I was able to understand where your frustration is coming from.

That said, going to Disney will drive you crazy if inconsistencies bother you. They are the King of Inconsistency. Some say it's unfair, other call it Magic.

Magic does not happen all the time for everyone. It's unexpected, unplanned, and it follows no policy. It's getting an upgrade when you don't ask. It's getting balloons and candy in your room on your anniversary> It's getting to take your child on a cruise at the Beach Club even though they have a food allergy.

Now many will think that each and every time they go to Disney they too should always get the upgrades, the flowers, the balloons, the change in food for allergies. But Magic does not happen that way.

Just be glad you were dusted once with Pixie Dust :wizard: and let this one go. :)
