"No flash photography please"

You misunderstood me, it is indeed rude to ruin the experience for someone with your actions like knowingly taking a flash photo when it irriates the other folks in the boat, Thats selfish. it's also irritating to know that someone is flashing off pictures knowing the policy, again selfish. I just think it's harsh that you made a blanket statement that "EVERYONE" taking a flash photo is selfish and out to ruin your experience on the ride. It's not criminal in this country to take pictures, and under most circumstances taking a picture is usually not irritating to other folks, so using that logic I could see how a newbie on a boat taking a few flash photos of Jack in a barrel could be totally oblivious to irritating "YOU" on a boat....not selfish at all, just not aware.

I guess that anyone who bothers to consider others instead of just themselves (selfish behavior) is rude. I don't think that people, in general, should wait for a rule to tell them so. If you are in a dark place, and there are others about, it is not pleasant. Does anyone appreciate that sensation?

Hey, if while at Disney, after spending 2-3 thousand dollars, you have 2-3 kids to watch out for, you didn't hear the announcement that there was "no Flash photography" just got on the POTC ride for the first time and can still 100% of the time be total aware that maybe just maybe 1 flash photo might hack someone off enough that it generates pages of posts on this site, then you are a much better person than me, perhaps a Saint. This world would be a much better place if 100% of the time we thought more about others, I tend to believe that the flashes in dark rides or peudo-dark rides, lets face it there are more strobes in some of these "dark rides" than a 70's disco club, are from folks oblivious to the policy and totally oblivious to hacking anyone off.

Folks are out there trying to generate value for their dollar in a time where most of us would say the economy sucks. I'm pretty certain that maybe just maybe there might be a person out there that hasn't yet come to realize that they are hacking you off, Some might care about this, some might not. I do know 3 things, 1.) I don't take the pictures, I've already explained this and
2.) we are light years away from Disney doing anything consistant to enforce the policy, maybe never......3.) taking a flash photo of Barbossa when maybe you are looking at the fort or taking a picture of Jack in the treasure room while you are gathering your belongings certainly does not constitute selfishness especially in the absence of not knowing it's hacking you off, in would say 99.9% of the world's population. If they are setting up a flash in your face then I get it, I would be hacked. lastly your entitled to your opinion, I respect that, I just don't agree that 100% of the folks out there are selfish and rude that are taking the flash photos...regards

The voice we hear in the back of the Doom Buggy says no flash pictures.

I meant there was no CM giving a direct response to the picture taking.

I know the voice says "no flash photography" at the beginning but do they replay it when someone is taking pictures during the ride?

LOL, a sucky economy has nothing to do with this that I can see. Unless we are discussing the feeling of entitlement that people tend to have. "I paid all of the money so I deserve to blind the rest of the people on the boat while I get my barbosa picture. Forget the fact that they won't be able to see until the next scene. But then I can take a pic of Johnny!"

Off topic but just thought of another totally rude group of people on BTMRR. My ds and I were seated in the first row of the last car. the family behind us in the second and third row of the car consisted of 2 teenaged boys(second row) and a teenaged girl and mom(third row). During the whole ride the teenaged boys were totally obnoxious. They were hooting and hollering and just acting stupid. The entire ride when they weren't yelling "WHOO!" directly into our ears, and this was not this ride is fun yelling it was I am an idiot yelling, they were yelling "lady in front of us put up your hands, put up your hands, put up your hands! Your son has his hands up! Put them up!" It was obnoxious and I would have told my kids to stop but this mom did not. Apparently she thought it was funny. When the ride stopped I looked at my ds and said loudly "You are never to act like that!" He was like "Why mom?" and I said "It's rude and obnoxious and I will not have you acting that way."

What is it with people that have to ruin it for others?

We were in the haunted Mansion with rude screaming preteens once. People were yelling for them to shut up! I said something similar to my kid coming out and the father had the nerve to say that I was being ridiculous. They were just kids having fun.

I've never understood the impulse to take pictures on a ride. I'd rather see it with my own eyes then through a viewfinder.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents. There is all kinds of rudeness that we've seen alot of places though just don't expect it at WDW. To just mention a few that we've seen over the years.
1) During the summer, there are many people who try to see how few clothes they can get away with wearing. Looking at parts of the body that most definently need to be covered is rude to my eyes.
2) Groups of people entertaining them selves by talking and laughing loudly on rides such as It's a Small World, Pirates of the C, etc.
3) Of course, using flash Photography during the same rides.
4) Had a group of boys in their early 20's in front of us smoking on Splash Mountain.
Each ride vehicle needs to have a wireless speaker where cast members can give individual directions without interupting the entire ride for everyone.

The attractions have observatory cameras all through-out. If they see somebody taking flash photography, the CM watching the cameras will announce "no flash photography". Once on Dinosaur, a guy was taking pictures and the CM called him out over the speakers. Something like "Man in the yellow shirt and cap, stop taking flash pictures."

Thousands of folks from different places with different ideas and cultures converging on one place....Disney. One could consider something rude here but in another country be totally appropriate. folks being rude and selfish are all over but apparently we all have different ideas of being selfish.

Blinded? what kinda flashes are riding your boats, maybe we are talking 2 totally different experiences, are folks turning around in thier seats and shooting photos over your head and exposing you to the flash or are we seriously talking about maybe someone in the FRONT of the boat taking a picture ahead of the boat not exposing you to the flash, seriously, it's pretty silly to think that anyone could actually be blinded by someone shooting a picure using a flash infront of you and not in your direction. Now a flash in your face...I totally agree with you....that's rude but it is impossible to blind anyone setting off a flash in any room and Blind the whole boat...silly:rotfl2: if that is your implication.

Here are my truths taken from this most entertaining discussion

1.) if the policy says "no Flashes", then that means no flashes
2.) not everyone is out to ruin your experience
3.) not everyone using a flash on a dark ride is being selfish or rude
4.) everyone using a flash knowing the policy and or knowing it's irritating
you is indeed being selfish and rude.
5.) hopefully after encountering a flash on one of these rides, you do yourself
a favor and recover from the irritating experience and relish in the idea
that you are indeed at Disney world. regards:hippie:

Actually, if the person was in their boat or one boat ahead, and in a very dark area, the drop of POTC for example, the flash could momentarily blind everyone.

Maybe if it was an arc welder, maybe a nuclear weapon, high powered strobe light, maybe high powered military search light, but I highly doubt after the research that I have done on your claim that a small digital camera would have the intensity to cause such a blinding light. It is true that the flash would be quicker that the eye could adjust to protect the retina, however shooting a camera flash in a direction away from others.....sorry just don't see it.....

Light travels in all directions. It would affect people behind, to the side and in front of the person with the flash. It would have the ability to blind everyone in the boat, including the person with the camera, for a moment. And possibly the boat behind them if it was backed up.

Probably been exposed to too many flashes!:rotfl:
