No Fireworks?!?!

Apparently there aren't going to be fireworks when I'm at the park next week. I've heard so many good things about them that I don't want to miss them. Do they do anything similar at California Adventure? I just can't believe that Disneyland won't have fireworks at all. :sad2:

I saw that too. Not sure what the deal is though. glad I don't have any trips planned.

Actually, I think I'd have fun even without fireworks.

Really? I guess I've just seen a bunch of Disneyland specials on TV and had always pictured fireworks as part of my image of the park. I guess I'll have to sell the wife's car so I can go back when they start again. ;)

There are no parades or fireworks for most of the time until March due to repaving MainStreet, but Fantasmic is supposed to be nightly instead.

I've seen Fantasmic at MGM. Is it the same show?
Same show but there are slight variances. MGM has amphitheater style seating, the DL show is on the waterfront of RoA, so everyone kind of just gathers around. More impromptu and packed, but very very fun. I prefer the atmosphere there.

I hear that there are some differences. There is a recent thread on Fantasmic seating that has a couple of people giving their opinions about WDW vs. DLR showing.

This fellow does a side-by-side video comparison on YT. As you can see, basic themes and storylines are the same. The only differences are some visual additions in references to other movies at both parks.

I've been to both and WDW has its merits, but I've been watching F! at DLR since they started it, and I love it here more.

Perhaps that will be the saving grace. Where do they do the show? Do they have an amphitheater?

Nope, if you didn't see it, I say in my first post that the DLR Fantasmic takes place on the RoA riverfront as opposed to a theater. People are seated (or stood) around the water 180% so it's a little bit different. You don't wait in line like at MGM, but you should save yourself a seat up front a couple hours beforehand if you want a good seat. You obviously won't get a stupendous view if you're in the back, but everyone is closer to the action than they would be at WDW.

That's a tough sell. I'm thinking I'll just look for an old taping of Wonderful World of Disney to see my precious fireworks. I think I have The Journey of Natty Gann someplace.

I still like the fireworks better than fantasmic though.
It's a matter of opinion. Fireworks are undoubtedly FANTASTIC, but I spent 7years watching F! before I finally saw a Fireworks show (I know, sue me). I think the fire on the water really appeals to me. It gets hot out there!

Allow me to strongy encourage you to see Fantasmic! I am a fireworks fan. I love them. They are wonderful. Fantasmic! is the most unique, incredible show you will see at any theme park. It is amazing! It will not replace seeing a fireworks show if you love fireworks as much as it seems you do, but if you leave Disneyland without seeing it, you have done yourself a dis-service. It is truly a great show.

P.S. Welcome to DIS.

I was at DLR tonight and watched Fantasmic for the first time since the projector upgrades. It really is worth the extra effort. Especially if you can see it on a weeknight. Tonight the crowd was much lighter than usual. A good view could have been found 20 minutes before the show.

The DLR version emphasizes the older Disney films (Peter Pan, Dumbo, Pinocchio) more than the WDW version.

Also, the DLR version features both the Columbia and the Mark Twain. An acrobatic sword fight between Peter Pan and Captain Cook takes place on the Columbia which isn't in the WDW version.

Plus the DLR version includes some big fireworks.

Oh, I understand your disappointment with the no fireworks for your trip. I would urge you to check out the awesome F show at DLR if you haven't seen it there. The view is great and the show is wonderful with lots of classic pieces. PLUS you get a cool sword fight with Hook and Peter Pan (as mentioned above) and the Mark Twain is out and about too. I like to get a seat at the River Belle Terrace right at the fence over looking the river and buy some chocolate cake and lemonade for DH and I. It's like our own dessert party! And no one stands in front of us and we don't have to sit on the ground for a good view!

Anyone know when in March? Beginning? mid? late?

We are returning home on the March 7th...

mid to late March, if your trip ends on the 7th you will miss the new parade and the fireworks.

To the OP, while the fireworks are great I much prefer F! to them. I love F! !!!!! :) I would encourage you to see it and then come back later to see the fireworks because they are pretty amazing as well! :)

I'm pretty sure I'll have to come back. I just have to see the fireworks.

I'm with you OP...very disappointed there are no fireworks. But I guess I will live...after all, I'm finally in DL for the first time in my 49-1/2 years. I love WDW and love Fantasmic there, so hopefully I won't be disappointed in Fantasmic at DL. It sounds great. We are HUGE fireworks lovers. I would almost skip anything else in order to see the fireworks. So in just 2 weeks you will catch me camped out waiting for Fantasmic to begin!
