We just got back from a Disboards Illuminations cruise - and had a great evening and met some lovely DIS people ..... (we missed Jen_uk and her husband though... they didnt show up ... :( ) except for one thing... the minute that Illuminations started it became clear that there were going to be NO FIREWORKS!

We watched a "modified" show.. much shorter.. with lots of fountains and a bit of fire and the globe but not one firework.

I have no idea why they did this... whether someone forgot to load the fireworks or they didnt fire or they decided not to fire them... but having spent $300 on the fireworks cruise and I know everyone will realise how difficult it is to get one of those cruises... there were some pretty unhappy people getting off the boats!

I know the weather has been unsettled the last few days, but as we got back we heard Wishes going off... so ??? im confused!!

After putting my angry eyes on, i complained to a very lovely lady at the Yacht Club Marina who gave us a refund on the cruise - our wonderful driver Scotty said that in the 1500 cruises he had captained ther e was NEVER a time the fireworks had not gone off!!!

But it was SUCH a disappointment! We were so looking forward to the cruise and it was raining so we got soaked on the boat - so it wasnt the best evenings entertainment at Disney we have ever spent!

how fun to meet other disboard people!

sorry about the fireworks ...i can imagine how disappointing that was, especially given the effort of getting onto the cruise...
could it have had anything to do with the tropical storm?

i doubt it was weather related if they still did wishes! more like wdw's latest attempt at cost saving?!!!

Credit crunch anyone ?
This could be the latest cost cutting exercise to come maybe.

I Would have been angry and hugely disappointed as you were and I'm pleased that they at least gave you your money back.

Well done on getting a refund, I wouldn't have been happy either. How can you have Illuminations with no fireworks :confused3 :sad2:

So sorry you missed your cruise - I can't imagine how disappointed you must have been. I do know that they cover themselves by warning of possible cancellations when you book, so you did well to get a refund. It doesn't happen very often, but there have been a few occasions in the past when IllumiNations has been cancelled due to hurricanes, so maybe tropical storm Fay had something to do with it. The logistics of IllumiNations are different to those of Wishes, so I don't think you can read too much into that. Hopefully you can find out the reason and post back.

I hope all the Captains who went out last night still received their tips - they all do such a great job.

our boat all tipped our Captain..... Scott... he was FAB! :) it wasnt his fault... he was as suprised as us there were no fireworks!

I felt sorry for some of the people doing the cruise... they had not seen the fireworks before and left saying..was that it??? :confused3

Im not sure of the reason it was cancelled.. there was no rain or wind during the showtime at all. we got soaked on the way back however....i will write to disney and ask them... partly because i want to say how fab scott and kelly the girl at the marina were.

Interesting, last September when we did an Illuminations cruise, the captain said that tipping was not allowed :confused3

How disappointing, and yes, I know how expensive they are and how hard they are to book. I am glad you did have a refund though, a nice smattering of pixie dust since they do stress that it is a pontoon cruise you are booking. :wizard:

We had an Illuminations Cruise booked on Tuesday (19th) and it was cancelled due to Faye :(

Shame that the fireworks did not go off. But sounds like you met some wonderful DISers :goodvibes

Well done on getting a refund. Always nice to meet new Dis people.

What a shame :guilty: it must be awful for those who have never seen illuminations !

The fireworks for illuminations are fired from a barge, the wind for Fay on the day in question was above 25mph, so the barge was not allowed to go out on to the lake so thats why there where no fireworks that night.
By the time of the show the wind had died down, but by them it was too late to send out the barge.

Wishes fireworks are mainly fired from outside the park in a perment fire site, and a few from the castle, so it is a different set of rules as to when they are not allowed to fire than to the ones in Epcot.

Illuminations at the moment is now running without the globe, they have added a few extra fireworks.
