Disney discontinued film developing effective Jan. 3. Digital memory cards can be downloaded in the Camera center at all 4 parks. Eventually you will be able to do this at all the resorts too.

Or, you can do it yourself if you bring a laptop :) thats what I do, and then upload the pictures to website each night so people back home can see new pics each day. :wizard:

How much is it to download a memory card onto a disc?
(128 mb if you need that info)

THANKS!

The new Digital memory card to CD option can make sense.

Consider if you don't usually take a lot of photos, so 99% of the time, 1 memory card is more than ample. Lets also assume you either don't have a laptop, or just don't want to take it on vacation with you. Depending on how much Disney charges for this service, it could be a more cost effective way than purchasing a second memory card that you'll rarely need.

I wonder, they don't really need a CM to do this - just put a few kiosks in wherever they want to offer the service.

"Insert memory card here", "Insert blank CD here" (Or the machine could use a jukebox type mechanism to automatically mount a blank CD for you), "Insert credit card here", "Press Start"

Price that right, with a high speed burner, sounds like a good cash cow that can be placed anywhere they see the demand.

I am sure in the beginning that they will have CM's nearby. No one wants to lose their photos because of a mistake.

See this is what I am thinking, I don't want to have to bring a laptop with me since it does not fit in the safe.. but I only have a 128 mb card.. so I would love to get the disc, that would help out!
ok.. More ?'s lol.. do you need to provide your own disc or is it like the kodak picture maker at walmart, where that is $10 and they provide the disc.. hmmm.. anyone know?

I'll check it out later and report back here. It's still a good idea to have a second memory card with you. They are pretty cheap but good in case you lose one or something happens to the card. More expensive to pick up in the park.

Beware, this may not be completely up and running, and if it is, there may be some bugs to work out so I would not count on doing this for a trip in the near future.

I had read that this was happening prior to my trip (12/18-12/23). Having this informaiton let me decide to leave my lap top home. Well, sure enough, when we filled up the memory card (it was our first Christmas at Disney and we took pictures of everything!), we were at MGM and I headed for the camera shop at the front of the park, I asked about doing this and was told it wasn't available. I said oh no, I heard that it was, is it possible that it is available somewhere else? The cast member was very pleasant in telling me that it had been available at the Magic Kingdom but the machine kept breaking down and they removed it. My only option left? Buy a new memory card...well at the MGM photo shop they wanted $99 for 128 MB card!
Since we were staying on property without a car our shopping options were limited. We opted for buying a couple of disposable cameras and got them developed with a phot disk once we got home.

I downloaded to a CD at the photo shop on Main Street in fall 2003. The charged me $12.95 for the CD and I just put it and my memory card in the self service PC set up on the counter (I don't think they allow you to bring your own blank CD, but you might want to ask). It was fairly slow, so don't do it at a busy time! I was just doing it as a backup (in case my memory card was damaged/lost), so i left the images on my card. Note that CD-R's can sometimes get messed up, so I wouldn't trust my images solely to the CD.

Definitely invest in a duplicate memory card before an important trip - that way the worst case is you loose only half your pictures!

Another good option would be Walgreens or Costco off-site. I think they both do 1 hour photos from digital media for aout $0.29/image.

They probably were paying more to maintain the machines than they developed. It was some $13 per roll of film for single prints!!!

I think I was paying about $7.50 for 125 images - $15 for 250, etc. they provided the CD. This was in December.

Just back from MK. Asked about downloading my images and was told you couldn't do it at MK. Contemporary and Epcot is where she told me to go. I didn't have time to ask other CM's so will try it another day.

I guess we shoulda known this would take a while to get up and running.

The self-service kiosk at Contemporary used to be in the Sundries shop, but it's gone now.

I didn't get a chance to go to Kodak Imageworks in Epcot on my MouseFest trip, so I don't know if they still do downloading and printing.

Although I do bring a laptop with me on my trips because my work email justs gets too much if I leave it for a week, the chips are getting REALLY cheap.

I just bought a 512MB chip for about $40 at Amazon.com (after rebate)

Just over a year ago, my 256MB chip when I bought the camera was about $80.

Later this year, I am going on a 3-week trip (Not Disney) with no computer access, so I plan on purchasing one more chip (maybe even a 1GB chip depending on cost).

Now the work email is another matter. I think they're going to bring in a temp to handle that for me.

Well, that certainly finalizes the debate about film developing! I was in on the thread about film speed and the x-rays at the airport. We will now just be bringing 400 speed film and hoping for the best when we have it developed at home!

I did read confirmations from the airlines, the TSA and the film companies that you should NEVER put film in your checked bags and you should ask to have 800 speed hand checked. Lower speeds should be fine UNLESS they are x-rayed more than 5 times because the effects are cumulative.

I probably would have paid the $13 per roll just for peace of mind! :D

Back in Nov if you uploaded your pics from a card onto a disc at MK they charged $13. However, if you left the memory card with them you could collect the disc the next day and you were only charged $8. The staff at MK were unaware that you could do this and they told me I would be charged $13. Upon collecting my disc at my resort hotel I was charged the lesser amount.

Cost is supposed to be $11.99. Location at MK is in Expo Hall but when I asked today she said they didn't do it at MK.

We did this two years ago. At that time it was in Journey into your imagination. It cost us $13 (and you couldn't supply your own disk to reduse the cost) It did take time though. They did not have self serve machines but they were talking about adding them.

I take a LOT of pictures, (usually upwards of 600 in a week) so this serice was great for me. I have no use for a laptop except for pistures (not that my DH hasn't tried to convince me that we really do  ) so I was glad to see that this was available.

I'm happy to see it is available in multiple locations now with faster service and soon to be at the resorts! :smooth:
