according to the disney site, MGM closes at 6 pm on Friday May 2nd, with no Fantasmic. Anyone know why???

I would call WDW and ask because maybe someone made a mistake. That night is a grad night and MK will be closing earlier than usual.

I saw something about a media event on May 2. They are probably closing early for a private party. It is unusal that they scheduled it for the same night as Grad Night, leaving Epcot as the only open park past 6:00.

It is almost definately a private convention. Often big groups like Coca Cola Employees rent out the entire park and have their own parades, fantasmic shows, etc. That is definately what it is as I've seen this before. Here is a little secret for you- often when this is done they launch off Sorcery in the Sky. Though you can't enter the park to watch it, you can watch it from outside the turnstiles, a rare chance to see a show only done twice a year (july 4th and new years).

Yes, but conventions always happen after park close.

Yes, so the convention will be at night, after the park closes as 6 pm

Not necessarily. When they had Media Week for Walt's Birthday on 12/05/01, MGM closed at 4:00pm for their party. It was a large event. They will usually let those with a 1 day pass to go to another park.

Yes, that was a media event. When a company rents out the park for a party or convention, it happens after the regular park hours...they don't close the park early. When there is a convention the cast of the day is scheduled to do two Fant! shows instead of just one (the first being the regularly scheduled show time and then the convention being several hours later).

As I said above, I heard there is a media event for May 2nd.

I was just correcting the person who said it was definitely a convention...they don't close the parks early for those...media events they do.

and I can change my plans???? I wonder if anyone knows what the "media event" is? Not to whine or anything, but the addition of the Spectromagic on Thursday and now the early closing of MGM on Friday has REALLY thrown a wrench into my PS's and plans for which park which day. Good thing it's not a "prime" time!!!
