No DVDS players at DVC anymore?

May be ridiculous but my dh reached his tipping point last night. We used the DVD player every day. Dinner and movie night is one of the highlights and cosiest part of our trips. It's a deal breaker. That coupled with the gold pass and its blackout dates, rides not operating at capacity and all the other ever increasing costs and he's done. Our points are going on the market. We have 860, so we were not once every year or two guests. Disney used to get a big chunk of our disposable income. It's going elsewhere now.

And they won't care at all. Someone else will be paying what you paid when you sell.

Oh I know they won't care. Dh just refuses to keep giving them our money. Dues go up, passes go up, etc, etc. They take things away.

UGH! We were at BWV in Feb in a studio (not refurbished) and we used the DVD player. It rained starting at noon and continued all night while we were there. We also missed the clock but were only there one night so didn't bother asking for one.

All of the other time shares we have ever stayed in have DVD players and movies to check out at the activity center. ( We also own at Wyndham and another place in Vegas and trade in for Marriotts frequently) .

I just went on the DVC website and looked at one of my home resorts (BLT) and the in room amenities listed still include alarm clock and DVDS player. Makes me mad that these items are still listed as amenities but are reportedly being taking away.

Disney/DVC is often slow to update many things. We made a reservation at Fulton's Crab House based on their menu on the Disney website. After sitting down we were given a menu with the item that we wanted missing. The manager told us that it can take Disney months to update their website and that we should always contact the restaurant directly for updates.

I solved this dilemma with a Roku stick. Granted, I already had it thanks to my regular business travel, but it still is a pretty cheap, easy solution. Get an Amazon Fire stick or Google Chromecast stick if you prefer; same thing basically (just not my preference). Now that netflix has disney movies, you can just pretend you're borrowing it from downstairs like before

I did email DVC a couple days ago to express my concern. I have not heard back yet.

I wrote two days ago asking for confirmation. Haven't heard back yet. Spoke to member services. They say the DVD players are still there. Perhaps they are reading the same outdated website. I'm hoping member services has accurate information though.

Get a 6 foot hdmi extension cable (or just the little roku 3 box) so you can move it around. It'll work fine once you get to even 30% signal power. Trust me, I've used it in some sketchy wifi hotels and nothing has kept me from netflix

No DVD player in our room at BLT two weeks ago, nor was there one in our room at AKL. There was a new 55 inch tv at AKL, but the tiny tv at BLT was still the same.

I would never watch a 480i DVD on a 55" 1080p HDTV. It would look beyond terrible. To the point of being disrespectful to all the filmmakers who bust their butt to make that film. It would look even worse than a DVD that's being uprezzed on the fly in a Blu-Ray player looks and I can't even watch that. To me taking away a DVD player is equivalent to no longer providing CD players in the rooms. They are the same age technology. As long as they have a USB port I can bring 30 movies in 1080p with me on one little stick. And I haven't used an alarm clock in 10 years. I use my cell phone as do most people I know. Matter of fact I've actually been using my Up band as an alarm the last two years, not even my phone. Disney is filtering out old technology that has already been replaced in mainstream society with newer options. More people use their phones than alarm clocks and more people watch digital movies than DVDs in the US, and in both cases BY FAR. Disney has been all about money grabs lately but I'm not sure this is one of them.

We are at Okw right now and have a dvr player. We got DVDs from the community center library so all is the same here at least now in Okw.

This is why I'll never buy DVC. Doing so doesn't take into account how the experience, at the resorts and/or at the parks, might change in the years to come, and whether or not it will continue to feel worth the big investment.

Buying in is an individual choice, as has been discussed extensively on these forums. For us, it's been a very positive thing, especially with my perpetually age 7 (mentally handicapped) stepson. He always loves the rides and getting to go to Disney really motivates him to behave year round. We all love SAB; he ("DSS"?) even joins the afternoon pool games for the older kids since he doesn't know he's 34 lol.

I certainly share a lot of the disappointment that people express here, though. The biggest disappointment to me is the substandard food service quality in recent years. But that's a topic for another day and another thread
