No dvd players on cruise???

Disney Magic -

I planned on bringing a dvd player to help my dd relax before bed. I just noticed that dvd players are not permitted!!!!!!!!

Do they enforce this??

I don't know the answer to this but if I am reading this right I think you can have a portable one that doesn't connect to the TV to play, but you can't bring one that has to connect to a TV. You might want to call DCL to make sure.

"DVD, VCR, or Blu ray players or, Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Wii gaming systems are not allowed because of compatibility issues with the stateroom TVs"

We bring our portable DVD all the time, as long as you have the RCA [standard RED/WHITE/YELLOW] connections, we as you, like to watch & catch up with some of our shows before bed....a little of home with you in your cabin....

Robin & Angel "D" :thumbsup2

Portable stand-alone DVD players are permitted, they ask that you not plug them into the TV.

Don't know what you were planning on having your daughter watch, but if you are on the Dream or Fantasy you will have access to a large amount of Disney programming on demand, including nearly all their animated movies. If that's what your're after, a DVD player is unneccessary.

We have plugged in a portable dvd player to the TV many times, and never had it unplugged or told anything.

From anything I can tell the old tvs, could not handle it, but the new ones are just like ones you buy for your own home.

OK, but DCL does ask us not to do it. Regardless - old TV or new.

But, portable DVD players (that you do not connect to the TV) will be OK.

This is exactly the issue, BUT DCL has not changed their request with the installation of the new TVs...so again, it's one if those issues where guest choose to follow the instructions or not.

Yes, a portable "stand alone" is no problem. And the TV system now features HUNDREDS of "on demand" movies--Disney Classics as well as more current movies, many that were distributed by various divisions of Disney but would not be thought of as Disney films! Seriously, there is so much available that there should be something for every taste.

Slightly off topic but how much do the on demand movies cost?

Not sure about the DVD player but there should be plenty of channels to find something she likes! There are always both animated and non animated movies on, cartoons, disney channel and disney jr. shows, etc!

anyone know if the new tv's have hdmi inputs like a normal flat screen or are they some kind of special thing and/or mounted to the wall so close you can't get behind them? I don't really plan on using it but sometimes it is nice to use the big tv for a monitor for the laptop

I didn't check out the ports, but they do pull out and swivel, so if you can plug in your laptop, you could probably sit at the desk and still see it well

The on-demand programming is only on the Dream and Fantasy at this time - not the Magic or Wonder. Haven't heard about Magic/Wonder getting it.

We brought a portable DVD player for the flights and didn't know DCL had restrictions related to having it. It didn't really matter though because we never used it on the ship nor would we have tried to hook it up to the TV.

On the Wonder, there are lots of channels with Disney programming playing all the time, including Pixar films, classic animated films, tv shows, etc. There are also movie channels that play newer releases such as The Pirates Band of Misfits, Ghost Protocol, Jack and Jill, Big Miracle, and many others.

We just brought a laptop. I just upload the DVDs to our laptop and my son can watch them anywhere.

That is too bad. I was getting excited. I may be a grandma, but the Disney Channels are my favorite.

There is plenty of Disney programming on the Magic and Wonder televisions - but without the on-demand aspect. You would have to check and see when the movie you want will be playing rather than calling it up exactly when you want to see it.
