Hello everyone,

In 2010, I am celebrating a "milestone" birthday.

And just as I did for my (ahem) "25th" and "30th" birthdays... :rolleyes1 ...I had big plans for this one. (The "25th" included a birthday Illuminations cruise, and the "30th" included a dessert buffet in the UK upper.)

I booked 4 (soon 5) rooms at BLT at the 11-month mark. (Actually bought my BLT contract with this event in mind.)

I've invited 30 guests. I've booked dinner reservations for everyone.

My big plan was to use that glorious 3BR at BLT for a "dessert reception" after dinner - while we watch the fireworks.

But, now I find out - WDW private dining will do "no" set up's in resort rooms.

...I always thought the mantra was, "If you can dream it... AND YOU CAN PAY FOR IT... You can do it!"

But I guess that's not the case? Now I'm forced to find a caterer in the area to bring in desserts and set them up while we're at dinner?

This is a little disappointing...

Does anyone have any experience with a catered event in your villa? I would love to hear your experiences... I'm feeling a little deflated at the moment... :(

Thanks...
~ Beth

I understand your disappointment but maybe there are some other options for you like a desert party at Sago Point at GF Resort or maybe discuss with Private Dining if they can accommodate a dp at Top of the World Lounge. There is an outside service that does in-room decorating and other events that I've seen posted on these boards, maybe they can assist you with the set-up in your GV; I can't recall exactly but I think it is something with gifts of a lifetime in the name, hopefully someone will be along to help with more info.
Try the wedding board here on the DIS too, there's lots of great info there on private events, etc.

Best wishes to you & lots of
pixiedust: for a wonderful birthday :cake:

Thanks very much 5forDiz.

We gave a lot of thought to reserving one of the "private dining" locations - I've looked at all of them - but we really like using the GV. Those units are SO spectacular - I really thought it would be just as special as any other place on property. (and more intimate, too.)

I appreciate your suggestions....

I am sure that Disney frowns on 30 people eating in your room, even if it is a Grand Villa. I would try for the TOTW and see what they say.

Good luck and let us know how it goes. :goodvibes

You make a very good point Bill. Maybe this factored in to why Private Dining said they couldn't do this, although the guests are just visiting for dessert, it may very well be that Private Dining needs to abide by occupancy guidelines based upon location of event.

Wow!!! What a wonderful 29th birthday party. I hope everything works out for you as it sounds like it will be spectacular. Here's some pixie dust:wizard:.

You will come up with something spectacular to celebrate this milestone. Take plenty of pictures to post for us! Happy Birthday in advance. :goodvibes
