Hi, if you don't have the dining plan, are you still able to make dining reservations? If so what is the window? We are booked for August but am having second thoughts about the dining plan, but don't want to miss out on the restaurants we want.

As long as you are staying on property you can book ADR's for the entire trip well in advance. I believe it is 180 days which will be coming for you soon. If you are off property you can make reservations for only 180 days- so you have to call for each day of your trip as each day becomes 180 days out if that makes sense. There are ADR calculator tools available to let you know your 'booking' date.

Edited to note that it does not have anything to do with whether or not you have the dining plan. We've gone both ways. The DDP made us try a lot more ADRs than we would have if we weren't on the plan. It was A LOT of food. We enjoyed everything we tried. I don't think it was economical for us but I don't think it cost us much more than we would have spent otherwise. Again, this varies tremendously from guest to guest based on spending/eating habits.

You definitely do not need a dining plan to make reservations. Anyone can make a reservation for any restaurant beginning 180 days before they intend to dine. You don't need hotel reservations or even park tickets to do it, just a credit card to hold the table (you will not be charged).

Yes I understand anyone can make reservations, but I thought that having the DDP gave you an advantage over someone who didn't. My question was if you don't have the DDP do you have the same 180 days?

Having the dining plan does not give you any advantage. Having an on-site resort reservation does.

Yes, if you're staying at a Disney resort, you get the 180 days to book reservations (regardless of whether you have the dining plan or not).

Everyone, on-site or otherwise, can book at 180 days. If you have an on-site resort reservation, then at 180 days from check-in, you can book for up to 10 days forward into your reservation. The perk is generally referred to as "180+10." Since you have to book an on-site resort in order to be eligible for the dining plan, I suppose you would always have that privilege. But it's tied to the room, not the dining plan.
