No dairy....

I have a son with casein issues (gives him asthma attacks, but he's ok with lactose). Do any places on property serve soy ice cream or sorbet? We wanted to check out beaches n cream or another ice cream place. Also, I have a few ADRs--do I need to phone ahead to see if they can accommodate no dairy in things like waffles/pancakes, etc? He CAN have gluten.

I think the Dole Whips are Non-dairy--they are sold
in Adventureland in MK and at the Poly CS.

I have the same condition, I was off of Dairy for
several years and was doing really good but then
I decided I would add dairy back in my diet but
this only lasted about 6 months, my Dr. said that
if I didn't improve my need for the rescue inhaler I
would have to be put again on inhaled steroids
(no way!) I went off dairy again and have been doing
much better.

From what I read there is a phone number to call
and request special dietary needs 48 hours before ADRs (I don't
know the number) but I'm sure it can be located in the dining section
of this site.
I have showed up at restaurants and was asked if I had
any allergy concerns and have had the Chef come out
to talk with me but would recommend calling ahead and
adding this to your ADR information.

I'm not sure about any ice cream places, but table service chefs are great about making accommodations. If you're making any ADR's, tell them on the phone and then they'll have you meet with the chef and discuss your specific needs.

Ella-
I am allergic to all dairy, and love going to WDW because they are so accomodating! Every table service will have soy or rice based ice cream, just make sure to note it on your reservation. Get the numbers to the restaurants your're eating at and call a week before you go just to double check.
I have a list of places I got from the Disney dietician of stands that have soy products. Off the top of my head I can say Main Street IceCream Parlor for sure, because one of the highlights of my last trip was getting chocolate icecream after Wishes and eating it as we slowly made our way to the buses. Let me find it in all of my Disney information and I'll Pm you.

Here is the info- I figured I'd post it here in case anyone else has similiar needs!

Definitely contact Theresa Joiner, she provided a lot of information for me

Here is the info- I figured I'd post it here in case anyone else has similiar needs!

Thank you so much for posting this! I'm vegan, so no dairy for me. This list is very helpful :goodvibes

I'm vegan too and this info would have helped a lot on my last trip!

I still think that Table Service is the way to go. They are VERY accommodating at TS and will get you what you need. Counter Service is much more difficult (especially if you don't want to just eat junk food)

I got soy ice cream twice at Main Street Ice Cream parlor, but be prepared to fill out paperwork and wait quite a bit longer for it. They have a whole procedure they have to go through to make sure it's not contaminated, which I totally understand, but it took longer than I thought it would. 15 minutes for ice cream? :confused3

I found the ingredients for the dole whip and although it doesn't have dairy, it has some dairy derivative in it? Sodium Caseinate. I will have to look into what this is and if you have a milk allergy, I would do so as well. HTH! (really really hoping I can eat one of these, I had no idea they were dairy free!)

INGREDIENTS: Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Crystals, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Locust Bean, Guar, Xanthan, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Sodium Silico Aluminate, Vegetable Fiber, Citric Acid, Artificial Flavor, Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Mono & Diglycerides, Sodium Citrate, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Articial Color Including F.D. & C. Yellow #6.

Thanks for all of the help?

Paperwork? For ice cream? Like the "you-won't sue us if you have a reaction to this" type?

Well, from what I remember (I was trying so hard not to lose the magic so I kind of did that thing where you space/try to block out what is annoying you) Basically, they called the manager and he had a small pad, took my name and I think had me sign. Forgot what else he wrote down. Asked about my dairy allergy and made a comment that annoyed me "Oh, so it's a choice" when I told him I was vegan and it wasn't an allergy.

Then they couldn't figure out how to ring it up and while they were figuring that out, he went back to get it but I just stood there watching people come in, order, get their ice cream, and then leave. I have no idea what took so long?

It was darn good soy ice cream tho! Worth the wait, but I ordered 2 scoops the 2nd night b/c 1 scoop was seriously like 1/4 of a cup or something. :p

I had the same experience at the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor. They have a manager come take your order and your need down, and prepare it seperately so it does take longer, 10-15 minutes. But totally worth it in my opinion! I never get to have dessert like ice cream or cookies or brownie like things for the most part unless I make them myself on vacation so its a real treat that Disney is so accomodating!

Here is some more information I found that I had to share!

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.
