My FIL has inflicted the dreaded timeshare vacation on the family! We'll be @ Fairfield in Kissimee from 12/24-12/29 with our two daughters, age 5 and 3.

I know this is the most crowded time....I'm used to July crowds, though. Is it even worth trying to take the kids to Magic Kingdom for a day or two? Opinions, please!

Stay far away on Dec 25. Then go as early as you can (since you are staying off property you can't do EMH which they are doing every day) and follow one of the "Unofficial Guide's" touring plans. You might get lighter crowds on Dec 26 because everyone will have gone to MK on the 25th. But by following the touring plan you will get the most bang for your buck during a very crowded time.

Good luck, have fun and Merry Christmas!!!

Any time at Disney is wonderful. As you know, Christmas is the most busy time of the year, but what the hey, you are at Disney.

The decorations are beautiful, the Christmas shows are wonderful, you get some of the benefits of MVMCP without the extra cost. The afternoon parade at MK is the Christmas parade, they make it snow on Main Street, there is Mickey's Night Before Christmas show at MK. Check out the hotels, there is a giant gingerbread house at GF, beautiful trees at WL and AKL, a miniture amusesement park made of candy at the Boardwalk, a life size merry go round made out of candy at Beach and Yacht Club. You will get to see the Holiday Storytellers at Epcot (each country has a short - 10 to 15 minute show - shown quite a few times a day - telling the story of how they celebrate the holidays in their country). MGM has the wonderful lOsborne family Spectacle of Lights show each night and one of the best things is the extra holiday finale to IllumiNations (there will not be a dry eye in the house). Epcot also has a great tree lighting ceremony and the Lights of Winter arch between FW and WS. The afternoon parades at MGM and AK are also holiday themed. They are the Hollywood Holly-Day Parade and Mickey's Jamin' Jingle Parade.

Can you tell I LOVE Disney at Christmas. We will be down the week after Thanksgiving and also considering going down for New Years Eve. You need to go down with the mindset that you are at Disney, it is a wonderful time of year and you will not make it on all the rides and attractions and there will be crowdes but do what you can do.

It is really and truly the best time of year to be at Disney. We were there during Christmas week in 2005. We planned ahead and had a wonderful time. Subscribe to TourGuide Mike for great advice on where to go on certain days. His plan worked so well for us last December. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Thanks for the wisdom and encouragement, everybody! I've been to the World many times over the years, but never at the holidays....so this should be fun! Crowds or no crowds (and at least it'll be cooler.) :)

You can enjoy practically all of Christmas at Disney from just after Thanksgiving Sunday on to about December 18.

You can still have a very enjoyable Orlando vacation between Christmas and New Years provided you don't expect to go on very many rides per day and don't expect to see the parades except from afar despite the cost of park admission. If FIL is giving you the lodging maybe shelling out for the tickets won't be that bad.
