... and if you have any particular suggestions to add or tidbits to make a carless vacation at SSR enjoyable I'd appreciate it!

As an FYI there will be 4 adults and 3 kids (13, 12, 7)

PS: We are waitlisted for THV... since it's not an area to request but an actual Booked category it's not part of the poll. And yes I know there are comments of I'd not go without a car and while yes that is very valid; it's not a situation we will be in. We simply won't have a vehicle for this trip so that is why I am limiting the poll results to only where you'd suggest staying without a car. :)

We've done 3 Thanksgiving trips at SSR with no car. Started when the boys were 5 and 10. We like Congress Park area, nice walk up to main pool and easy walk to DTD.

Going this year for our 4th Thanksgiving trip this year, no car again.

You should add a choice "I would not stay at SSR without a car" because that would get my vote. We like SSR, but would only stay there with car.

LOL while that may be valid for you; it's not valid for this particular question and poll :)

We will be there for 9 nights (first SSR stay) and I'm nervous about the no car aspect. We requested Springs and Grandstand based upon what I had read on here. We are big snack people, when on vacation we are always stopping at the snack bars at night after the parks, refiling mugs and taking them to our room, we also usually eat breakfst in the food courts before heading out. Based on this are my requests right on? I'm curious about the congress park requests.

Then I'd vote for Congress Park or Treehouse Villas. I'll vote for Congress Park since the Treehouse Villas aren't a option.

We wouldn't stay at SSR or OKW without a car because we think one of the nice things about the design of those resorts is having easy access to your car, and consequently, driving to water parks, outside restaurants, etc. I think that is a benefit that is very nice sometimes. On our summer trips we love to stay there and rent a car because on those trips we do water parks, and next time plan on trying aquatica. If I wanted to do the water parks a few times during my stay I would never stay at BLT or WLV because of the distance to the water parks.

If we were staying at SSR without a car I'd vote for someplace that offered a unique experience at the resort. CP offers the nice walk to DTD, and THV is obviously a unique venue.

This is why we like Congress Park as well. It is also just a short walk to the bus stop to catch the resort buses. We will be staying there again in September. :woohoo:

The only reason THV isn't there is that's an actual booked option; not a request and so not part of the poll :)

If I get my Waitlist then I won't need to really worry about what section of SSR to request ;) I'll worry on my Treehouse area request then

We just got back from a 1 day stay and were in the Grandstand. We loved that we were first on the bus and first off. We walked to DTD two or three times and it was a nice walk. We had the snacks in the room from a grocery delivery so that was easy. We also looked out over the golf course. We loved it.

Congress Park gets my first vote because we can walk to DTD for dinner, easy walk to AP and HRS pool. Springs gets my second vote, very easy to pool and AP, further to DTD.

Grandstand is almost as close to CH (restuarant, pool, etc) as Springs - but it is the first bus stop.
It has it own pool and bar (okay most of the time the bar is closed)

Now love Congress Park - my allergies makes walking to MacDonald a must. Pepper is in most of the food served at AP and DD restuarants. MacDonald is the only one who can take it out. (believe me I asked)

Add me to someone who voted for the Grandstand section. When we stayed there we were lucky enough to be in the building near the pool, closest to the main building - I think it may actually be closer than the Springs (than one building, that is). It was less than a 5 minute walk to the main pool and right near the bus stop. Great location!

Springs section is the last bus stop. Can be a problem at times.

We've made multiple trips to the World and SSR specifically and have never had a car! I personally like the Grandstand area as long as my room is near the pool. If you like to have easy access to snacks, probably the Springs or Congress Park would be better suited.

Not so bright I meant a 12 day stay.

DW and I have never found it necessary to have a car at SSR and have stayed at Congress Park, Grandstand (near and far from CH), and The Paddock. We have stayed at other DVC resorts and visited all of the DVC resorts and spent time walking around all the DVC properties; it is what makes up the DVC and Disney experience for us. :thumbsup2

We travelled with my brother and his family last year at SSR and they had to have a car. They drove from the far Grandstand building to the Grandstand pool! Geeze Louise! :rolleyes1

It is really a personal matter, as to whether you can feel secure without your own transportation.

OK, if you wish to be walking distance to DD, which bldg should be requested. I understand Congress Park :confused3 I would like to be near food Court, pool, and DD, any suggestions for a bldg that would cover all :)TIA

Darn it... how do you change a vote? I meant to hit Grandstand and somehow voted for Carrousel.

We all want it all, but you have to decide what is morst important:

Food Court - Springs
Pool - Springs, Grand Stand, Congress Park, Paddock
DTD - Congress Park

The reality of it is that you can request anything you like, you get what is available; they don't always match up! :confused3

SSR is not really as big as everyone likes to make it out to be, DTD is a short walk from any where in SSR, pools are located all around but Grandstand would be the closest to a theme pool. As for snacks after the parks, you should have some in your room because there won't be anything available by the time the parks close and you get back. Aslo you can hop the bus's and get around the resort if you get tired of walking. Guess I'm lucky I never get tired of walking....
