Just booked.. "requested the 1500 loop.. for our tent.. we were not given a specific camp site.. is this normal?

Yes. You can submit requests, but most likely you will find out your campsite number when you check in. Some people fax in their requests no more than five days before the check in date to ensure that their requests are received.

Yup, it's normal. You've paid for a specfic camp site type, but they won't assign you an actual campsite number till you get to the Fort to check in. You can request anything your heart desires like looop 1500, but theirs no gtd with Disney. But, on a positive note...I have never not gotten a loop request. A specific site request is another story. LOL!

For instance I have paid for a full hook and have "requested" loop 1900, because I have pets. I'll also add a request for a specific site number or two, but I am not holding my breath on that request. :)

I have been reading a bunch of posts on here.. I really hope that I am not disappointed in the 1500 loop .. lots of post that sites are small.. we were hoping to get a site that is near water.. haven't read any posts that anyones site is near the river... anyone.. I might want to change reservation..

There are a few sites in 1500 loop which back up to a canal, I had one in April 2010.

Next time I go to FW, I will definitely request the 1500 loop. I was in a tent in the 2000 loop. While I was fine there, the 1500 loop is closer to the Meadow swimming pool & trading post. I didn't need a lot of space since I was camping alone, but the campsites in the 1500 loop looked to be about the same size as those in the 2000 loop. Just across the street from the 1500 loop is the recreation area with the canal running through it. There was a canal by the 2000 loop, but it was devoid of most water.

If I tent camp I'll only stay in the 1500 loop I don't care for the 2000 loop it's to big and to many people party until late at night

All of that land is not the site most of it is common area and now my not be used by guest

Right. The fence on the left hand side is actually an access road/way to the canal in the back. You can't pitch anything on it but it is hardly used. This is the biggest site on the outside of the 1500 loop and is not typical in terms of its size. I stayed in the one next to it (1513) for Thanksgiving week 2009 which had a narrow entrance but widened out nicely back on the hill facing the canal. I'd gladly stay in 1513 again. :thumbsup2

Most sites are smaller. The sites on the inside portion of the circle are smaller but have more bushes/trees/privacy.

PS-there are no bad sites at the fort. Only differences.

:goodvibesWe were at the Fort last summer and didnt really care for the distant our site was from the comfort station. Before we set up our tents, we drove through the loop and wrote down the numbers of a few sites were would rather have. We then went back to check in and requested one of those sites and got it! They were very nice about this!

Great idea! I saw a lot of campsites that I would have preferred, but last month was my first time at Fort Wilderness so I was just going with the flow.

oh that is a great idea.. driving through and picking one out.. like that idear..

This is exactly what we did a couple of weeks ago~ we requested 1500 loop ahead of time, and the site was not ready. We drove through the loop, and while we liked the smaller loop, and the closeness to the ammenties, there were a few we did NOT want (specifically 1501 since it backs up to the bus stop.) Of course, with our luck, when they texted us our site number, yep, sure enough it was 1501. We went back to check-in and nothing else was available in the 1500 loop and they asked if we would be willing to do 2000. We drove through the 2000 loop to get the layout idea of it and then chose a site from there. We really liked where we ended up. It was so quiet, and very friendly people were around us!

Also, it was so dry while we were there, there was not much water running in any of the streams/canals, etc.

You got lucky that doesn’t always work. We got to our site one time and there was no way in hell our TT was going to fit on that site with the slideouts open. So we walked around and found 3 other site in that loop we could fit into called the front desk they told me we couldn’t move into those sites they where already assigned to other people so we had to move from the loop we requested to another loop farther away.

Everytime I go to FW I am walking around the loops writing down future site numbers that I may want to request. Because, everytime I go the sun hits the sites differently, so just because it's in the shade right now it may not be the next time. We have an old 5th wheel with only one AC roof unit, so we try not to kill it when we camp by staying in full sun to often.

When I was there over Memorial Day weekend with map and pencil in hand walking around my 1900 loop with my Disney shirt on, I actually had two different people ask me about what I was doing. The first person after I explained it to them told me they were worried I was actually from security cause they were late check-in out. LOL!

So if you see me walking around taking notes, don't worry I am just trying to find my next favorite site. LOL!

So just an update.. we bought two tents.. they are huge

then we got a 14x12 screen room..

we got a box fan.. and enough air beds for everyone.. picked up one tarp and picked up some fun lights.. they look like colorful balls..

still on the need to get list.. 2 airconditioners.. found a few on craigs list and if that fails.. walmart has them for $98.. we need to pick up some totes.. and then a trailer to haul all this stuff.. I dont think even my van would tote it all.. But all in all it is going to be a super fun time..

Sounds like you are making good progress....enjoy the Fort...I wish I was there right now!!

we requested the 1500 loop.. what kind of power does it have.. 2 plugs? 110 ? 220? how far away are the plugs from the campsite?
