No Buy May

I read the April posts but gave up halfway through. I was $200-300 over I'm sure lol

May is going to be the most expensive month EVER, I bought a house! :goodvibes We close on May 22nd.

So the spending is locked down. I'll have a mortgage again and a sort of high one because I am doing a 15 year loan. Now I'll have to stay on budget simply because I won't have any extra :goodvibes

Groceries - $60 for milk, bread and fruit - we are eating out of the freezer so we won't have to move food.
Eating Out - $20
Cats - $50
Gas - $50
yard Sale $ - $50 (I buy things to resell at our bi-yearly consignment event)
Misc - $70
------ $300 for extras

I already spent $9 on the eating out portion (oops) and $20 at a yard sale.

Groceries - 60/60
Eating Out - 11/20
Cats - 50/50
Gas - 50/50
yard Sale - 30/50 (I buy things to resell at our bi-yearly consignment event)
Misc - 70/70

I made $555.85 in my yardsale yesterday :goodvibes All that extra cash is going right on my downpayment :)

Hi Kim  That's awesome on the yard sale! I made a grand total of $32 over two days on mine :rolleyes1:rolleyes1.

Congrats on the house, you should rename your "extras" category to "Bed Bath & Beyond" :upsidedow

May 1: $0
May 2: $0
May 3: $0

Howdy all! I think I will jump into the May "No Buy" challenge. I haven't done one of these challenges in over a year (since before our trip to WDW April 2008). But I think it might help keep me "honest" this month! I'm just going to try to buy only NECESSITIES (groceries, prescriptions, gas, gifts, bills) this month and knock out that "5-dollars-here and 5-dollars there" that seems to disappear from my account CONSTANTLY. (BTW, I can only speak for myself, not DH.... he REFUSES to even discuss the world BUDGET.) I do have a wedding shower coming up and I need to buy a gift (but I have already bought myself something to wear!). I have already purchased my Mother's Day gifts, so I am all set with that.

Here is where I am at right now....

Friday, May 1 - Packed lunch for DD and myself that day. DS ate school lunch, but that is prepaid. No idea what DH did. Family went to discount movie house that night.

**Movie tickets, soda, popcorn, candy $30.00

Saturday, May 2 - DD was invited to select a dress from the Cinderella Project (she is part of Rainbow Girls and they were extended an invitation). She found a GREAT dress to wear to her upcoming 8th grade semi-formal. But we were gone so long we ended up eating lunch out (unplanned). PLus I stopped at the bread store. We live 45 minutes away from "town" so I have to get in all my stops when I am there!

**Semi-formal dress - FREE!
**Lunch at Wendy's - $10.43
**McDonald's ice cream cones - $2.14
**Bread store stop - $7.16 (used a $5 punch card coupon)
**Goodwill (shorts and pants for me) - $17.47

Sunday, May 3 - Stopped at local market for milk and fruit and dinner supplies after dropping off DD's friend. Then stopped for coffee treat to bring home to DH.

**Sully's Grocery - $35.00
**Dunkin Donuts - $4.09

Monday, May 4 - DD and I packed lunches. DS will eat school lunch (prepaid). DH off to a meeting. Not sure what he will do.... but I am SURE it will include a stop for Dunkin Donuts!

I'm going to jump in here again and try this. I have done a couple months this year but always fizzle out mid-month.

Let's see I put about $300 this month for groceries and miscellaneous. Exceptions this month include anything that is directly related to moving. The move is a long distance one at the end of next month. My DH and I are moving from New York City to New Orleans (yes, I must have a "thing" with cities named "New" :rolleyes1) and I'm excited!!

Let's see if I remember this:
5/1: $0!

Can I ask for how long and for how many cars the $240 covers? I got quoted a rate of about $150/month for car insurance.

Spent $14 on groceries today. I also bought three pairs of crocs for the kiddo and myself but I am not counting those because I am returning a shirt that covers the cost (plus I "made" a buck lol).

Groceries - 46/60
Eating Out - 11/20
Cats - 0/50

Oops, edited to add that all the cat stuff for the month has been bought.

Holy cow, that is a lot. I have Farm Bureau, full coverage runs $57 a month (a sports car was about $10 more).

I pay $99 every 6 months for liability and uninsured motorist on my little sedan.

Where'sPiglet, it is one car for 3 months but 300,000/1,000,000 coverage in a no fault state and includes towing, rental car, comprehensive (both my car and any other car involved) and the fact that I was driving more than 15,000 miles a year for work. My agent is trying to get it lower since I am not driving that many miles any more. I also am thinking about dropping down to 100,000/300,000 coverage on the next renewnal.

2nd try. Last month was not good. Too many Disney related bargains! Also my mom was in the hospital, so an unexpected weekend trip. But at least I am starting to track things, I don't think I had a realistic idea of how much I spend, even though I pay off my credit cards each month (except our home remodel card). I think my goal will be to label everything a need  or a want :guilty:, too.

Thanks. The quote was from Geico. It was something like $840 for 6 months for full coverage and whatever the state requires. I took notes but don't have them in front of me right now. I still need to shop around and call other companies. Louisiana is one of the most expensive states for car insurance from what I understand. :sad2:

May 1: $0
May 2: $0
May 3: $0
May 4: This will be zero, my DD8 sold out of her product at 3rd Grade Stores yesterday and forgot to bring home the money to go buy more product. I agonized for a bit over whether to take her to Hobby Lobby and front her the money to make more of her "sparkle stix" or just have her not sell today because she forgot to bring home the money, so, I spent 15.99 at HL, I'm hoping I'll get reimbursed for that today! I told DD, DON'T buy anything before you pay your supplier!

May 5: should be zero, I have a few hours of dialed-in work and a few hours of straightening up the house, putting up those curtains I bought last month. I was supposed to play tennis with my friends this morning, but the weather isn't cooperating . Ooh, maybe I'll go to a Zumba class this morning, I have the Y all paid up for this year, I should get my money's worth out of it!!!

Phew! A busy few days but thankfully not expensive ones!

5/1: $2.02 Post Office - postage for a PBS book
5/1: $18.00 Vinny T's - dinner & tip w/Crystal

5/1: $10.00 movie ticket
5/2: $0
5/3: $1.00 - parking at the mall
5/4: $0

Today will be a zero sort of. I used a CVS giftcard I got with my last transfer to buy 5 packs of diet coke, 4 boxes of cereal bars, some medicine and Gatorade (the kiddo is sick - ick). It was $24ish but the card was for $25 so I don't feel like I spent "real" money :rolleyes1

Groceries - 46/60
Eating Out - 11/20
Cats - 0/50
Gas - 50/50
yard Sale - 30/50 (I buy things to resell at our bi-yearly consignment event)

Will be spending money today since I'm running to the grocery store. I meant to go this weekend, but there was so much happening I never got the chance.

May 6: should be zero, I'm getting my teeth cleaned today but there's no copay for maintenance.

My DD8 did repay me the $15 spent on monday, making it a zero day for me. She thinks my "cold turkey" month is the pits, but she's humoring me . She made $57 at her Third Grade Store days, of which she gave me $15. So she's pretty happy. Older DD10 gets the idea of cold turkey better, but is like "we still get to go to the pool, right?", I paid for the pool back in January, we definitely will be using that a lot over the summer!
