I guess I could have almost left a couple of those of my list - I very nearly made the "exceptions" at the start of the month and they weren't "wants" which is what I'm trying to avoid at the moment.

This is the best "no buy" month I've had in a very long time.

We are even under in most categories in our household budget. I honestly think its the cold weather - its just nicer to stay at home and keep out of the shops.

Today was again $0 except for my budgeted extra mortgage payment.

First "chunk" is scheduled to be paid by beginning of August.

I thought I'd report spending these last days in May before jumping into June.

5/27 $124.01 Dell online. DS Lite for DH's Birthday. DD is tired of him playing with hers.
5/28 need to buy cat food today.
5/29 $0

...oooh, I need dog and cat food, too!

May 28: $577.03 4 new michelin tires for DH's toyota. I got the tire place to come close to matching Costco's price with a free oil change (it needed it) and 50 $ off, plus I printed out a 60$ gift card from michelin for buying four tires by the end of may, so it'll put me right at 500. The car also needed a new air filter, so I had them put that in (I don't think it's ever been done).

I wonder how much it would have been with an "expensive" car. Although there are much cheaper tires out there, it's been our experience with tires that you get what you pay for, and we don't scrimp on safety. Still, kind of a bummer to basically double what you spent all month in one day, but it's balanced with the knowledge DH won't be driving to work on bald tires.

I'm entertaining myself by looking through catalogs-just tossing them afterwards, though, no buying. I am so ready for June to begin...

Yesterday morning I participated in a shopping survey for a local grocery store and got a $20 gift card for the store. In the evening I went to a lecture on MS sponsored by a drug company and had a free dinner. All and all a good but ZERO day.

Kickapoo Joie, you did great on the tires. I am still waiting to hear from my brother about the tire am replacing.

Ok, the hard part of cold turkey no buy occasionally rears its ugly head.

I have *really* abnormally good hearing (my DD's do, too-they have to wear earplugs at dance class because the music levels that are normal for other people are way too loud for them), and I'm at my DD's dance class, and I hear two teenage girls talking about my really beat up flip flops and my even more beat up mani-pedi. *sigh*. Yes, ladies, I know my shoes look "really gross", but I did just drop $600 on tires.

I know, it's totally petty, I don't particularly care what teenagers think of my toes, but oh, how I wanted to run out right there and then for a pedi and an emergency stop at DSW. I didn't, but I hate being picked on for the things I gave up deliberately.

tomorrow, it's socks and running shoes until June!

Kickapoo Joie, look at those teenage girls and think, "In 15 years, my kids will be finishing college and I will be safely headed to a nice, secure retirement. And you will be trying to figure out why you cannot buy a house with your bad credit but good toenails."

Week 5 (the extra days in this very long month:sad1:)

5/29 $0

Tomorrow I have to pick up my car from the mechanic who fixed the tire. The good news is that there was not any damage to the wheel or rim or the frame from it blowing out on the highway. Also good news that the mechanic checked the entire car over and says I should be good to go for another year which is great for a 10 year old car with a 197,000 miles on it. Bad news that the tire warranty does not cover blow out from hitting pot hole which is what happened. So I will have a unplanned expense tomorrow.

Bought my August flights tonight....there's $478 that I hadn't budgeted for in May.....but it will help out my JUNE budget! :rotfl:

With the tires I think that puts me right at $1200 for the month, which would keep me on budget, but wooo, it was a challenge.

Anybody put June up yet?

Week 5 (the extra days in this very long month)

5/29 $0
5/30
$66 - new tire
$8 - Eating out - ice cream with my nieces
$6.13 - Misc. - bought trinkets at Disney store when I took the nieces to mall
$13.45 Misc. - bought books at Barnes & Noble

The good news, my Mom gave me the money to cover the cost of the tire. I tried to refuse it but she insisted. She thought that I was doing a good deed letting my BIL use my car for a week and was a little upset that he did not offer to pay for the tire. I did not expect him to pay - a tire could go at any time so I thought of it as an expense of owning a car. I recorded the expense but am not subtracting it from my budget since I did not actually pay for it.

The bad news, I let my nieces talk me into stopping at the "big" mall and I ended up spending almost $30 that was totally out of budget.

Well here is the best month I've had in a very long time!
