No Buy May! Welcome old and new savers!

Needed lots of food and stuff for the cats yesterday. Resetting budget for $1,000, and even that will be impressive with everything we need/gifts we have to buy.

I'm learning a lot by doing this. I went to the movies last night, but had a free ticket, and got free popcorn because it was Wednesday. I'm realizing that my budget of $150 for groceries is probably not going to cut it. I've been trying to learn couponing, but part of couponing is building stockpiles of things while they are on sale. I don't have a stockpile, so my budget was probably too aggressive.

Running Total: Spent $346

The selling of these textbooks on Amazon Marketplace has kept me from getting more $0 days b/c I need to pay to ship them and don't get our $$ from Amazon for about another week or so b/c we are new sellers. Oh well, we have made close to $400 already! :thumbsup2

I'm jumping in again this month. Was away for the first few days of the month for DD's 1st birthday but tried to keep track of all spending while we were gone. Last month was kind of a "trial run" just to see where we are in our spending, so my goal for this month is just to spend less than last month. I'll focus on groceries & eating out to start. We've already spent a lot on eating out from being away, so we'll have to be good for the rest of the month. I also only ended up with 3 $0 days in April, so for May my goal is 5.

Goals:
Groceries - < $300
Eating out - < $150
$0 days - 5

5/1 - $5.50 eating out
5/2 - $31.75 eating out
5/3 - $45.50 eating out
5/4 - $29.65 grocery, $2.75 eating out
5/5 - $4.16 grocery, $10.88 cat food, $1.63 comic

Tuesday turned out to not be a no-spend day again - my cell phone automatically topped up on me (my father is terminal and in hospice care :sad1: and I am running through minutes like crazy - normally I hardly use any).

But yesterday I managed to not spend. I'm hoping for the same today.

I am struggling today. 3 days in a row is so hard for me, almost impossible, but I have had 3 and so far today is 4!!! I want to make 4 so bad, but we are out of milk and bread and as for dinner, the only thing I can put together I don't eat (but DH and kids like.) So, I am trying to decide what I want more, groceries or get the groceries in the morning and prove to myself that I can do 4 days in a row. I figure I can throw together a pasta salad for lunches for the family tomorrow. Make eggs for breakfast. We can do without milk and bread that way. I hope to report later that I had my 4th day in a row!

MickeyMom, where you are at right at this moment is the moment where DH says: This 0 spend thing is dumb. If you need milk, you know you are going to buy milk tomorrow anyway.

Then I say: But its not the milk, if I go to the store, a People magazine or some cookies will end up in the bag too.

Then DH says: Grrr. Just stay under budget for the month and forget the 0 spend thing.

And then I say nothing, but do what I want anyway. DH glares at me in the morning while he eats a waffle because he can't have toast or cereal.

See I know milk and bread are not luxeries, but I am tired and by the way hungry. If I go to the store it will not be a full shopping because I am tired and it will include things it shouldn't (both financially and heath wise ;) ) since I am hungry. If I wait till tomorrow it will be a planned out, sensible shopping. PLUS, I'll wind up going back tomorrow anyway because I am tired and won't want to do a full shopping. And my DH eats eggs every morning and the kids like them so that is fine, and as for bread the only one who won't love it will be DD8 who eats PB&J every day, but she loves pasta salad so she won't care. No one will be hurt by not having bread and milk till tomorrow so I am thinking go for it! I don't love what I was planning for dinner but I remembered there are a couple enchiladas left over from yesterday that I can have some of so I think I am going to do it, just to prove to me that I can! :yay:

My DH is like yours though, he's like milk is not overspending. And I agree but if it can wait till tomorrow, why not?

Adding on to today, it was my mom's birthday and I took her out for dinner.
