I am very upset with the tenor of some posts and want to suggest what has to be done in Soap Opera forums. If people must bash Disney warn those of us who do not want to hear it by their having to state it is a bashing thread. Then we can stay away form the vitriole and just read the helpful, enjoyable threads we have come to expect.

Excellent idea. My feeling is that I am spending big bucks to go to Disney and I'd rather not read something telling me what a rotten time I am going to have. I do want to know if there are problem areas, I guess I just don't want to read the hard-core bashing. People don't like having their bubble burst I think.

I was really upset that a young girl will now not be taking her family to WDW because of the things she has read on this forum. At least let people know what they are in for before they start reading. Everyone has a right to say whatever they want. I just do not want to read all of it, especially not about Disney.

I totally agree! :goodvibes

I DISlike nothing more than going on a seemingly innocent thread, and then finding myself reading DISBashing!

I mean....a suggestion here or there....a bad experience....I understand...

But if it's SO darn awful at Disney...why have I been 18 times and still dying to go back as soon as I can?

And if you DON'T feel the same way....why are you on the disboards?:headache:

I'm sure there's an 'Anti-Disney' website out there somewhere....Go Join It !

If it's about the other thread that some of us have been commenting on, the title gives a heads up that the OP is not 100% happy with the World. There are threads on the DIS that I don't like. When I see it's a topic that I don't like, I either don't open it or once I've seen it is something that I don't like, I close it and move on to another thread.

The happiest thread can go south or the snarkiest thread can become complimentary. I've seen both happen, so having to state in the title or in an introductory paragraph that the thread is either postive or bashing really won't help.

I don't mind when someone actually adds to the discussion, but it's so annoying when all they want to do is spout their philosophy--Disney isn't a good value, rip off, off site is the only good place, and on and on. I figure if staying on site is totally not someone's cup of tea, (and they consider it a terrible value--emphasized with lots of caps) why are they even here? Their constant unrelentingly soundly negative "critique" doesn't help anyone with getting questions answered.

Well said Mary. I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

My goodness - what has prompted all this! I must have missed something exciting today!

Keep in mind, that some of the "bashing" threads don't actually start out that way intentionally (some do). Many times it's just someone expressing an opinion, a review, etc. and others take up the call and grab their opportunity to chime in.

So it's not really reasonable to ask people to label their threads as bashing threads - often that's not how they started out.

It's a message board with thousands of posters and viewers - there's not really any way to avoid the negative other than quit reading when you recognize that's where something's going! (I know, it's like stopping to watch the car wreck ... but if it bothers you that much, stop reading those threads once you recognize it for what it is).

Yes and making people afraid to have the most wonderful experience of their lives, totally wrong.

I will stop reading or read and know the difference between the truth and the exaggerated spewing going on, but the newbies do not know the difference and are being scared away and it is not right. They should read the threads that express the beauty and magic of our favorite place.

If someone won't go to WDW because of what they read on a chat board, then they either really weren't planning to go, their circumstances changed and they couldn't go, or they can't think for themselves. I have been a member here for several years and have read plenty of bad about every resort, restaurant, theme park, and lots on bad CMs but I've still gone and so have the thousands of others who have been on the DIS. I have never seen 1 poster change their mind about a trip because they've read a negative review. I have seen people change their resort or 2nd guess an ADR but that's it. Have any of us changed our minds about taking a trip anywhere because of negative comments? If someone is that easily swayed by negative comments and they ever read tripadvisor, I promise they will never leave their house.

Yes but someone like LandChildWorldAdult will not be going because she opened and read this post without realizing what she was in for. Now she may never read about what a truly wonderful place it really is. Sorry i think people should be warned.

She went to WDW on her honeymoon. It's in her signature.

She was making a decision for her family of six and was worried her husband & son would not enjoy it because of the cleanliness problem & the run down appearance , the rudeness of cast members, the poor quality etc, etc. In this economy she was afraid to spend the money due to the posts. I understand her fear but am sick at heart that she was unfortunate enough to read this thread. of course she will read it and many more but this one scared her and I object to this.

I agree with Vicki C that most of those threads do not start out to be a bashing thread, it just will go there sometimes. Also you say bashing but are people allowed to tell when something bad happened or how disappointed they were? I for one want the good with the bad, there is no way anything is perfect no matter how much pixie dust I'm snorting. It's easy to click on the back button to take you out of a thread that is not what you want to read.

While I agree that there are some people that seem to be mad at the world most of us really enjoy going to WDW or we wouldn't be on this site. I'm no Mary Poppins and do not expect the Disboards to be either.

And now she is being told it is a hell hole and is scared to death of spending hard earned money on this poor quality rundown resort that employs rude uncaring workers. Can you blame her?

And boy oh boy do you get a ton of that exact sentiment from the Dolpin/Swan fans who belittle all the Disney-owned resorts as ripoffs.

I went back through some of her posts. And to be honest I feel like she really can't afford a WDW vacation at this point and was looking for an excuse not to go and all these threads did is set her resolve. That being said I know all the bashing gives me a headache and I love WDW!

...not about WDW, where I think it is really difficult to have a bad time, but about her family. Maybe some members are "glass half empty" types and she didn't want to hear about lack of cleanliness or poor service, real or imagined. We can't know for sure what made her cancel. The view you get of a person on a message board is pretty one dimensional most of the time. I, for one, just ignore the bashing. To me, WDW is the perfect vacation not only for kids but for parents. It's designed to keep your children entertained, you don't have to cook and not only are there people who clean up all the time, they tend to be really friendly and concerned about the quality of your visit. I can't think of anything that has disappointed me at WDW, except the time the Poly pool was full of bugs. I still don't know why that happened---I'm guessing it hadn't been skimmed that evening----but hopefully the GF won't have the same problem this summer. In any case, that one little aberrant incident would never keep me from returning.

I had no idea the Dis boards existed until I began planning my trip for this year and let me tell you that they're a blessing and a curse! They're a blessing because the information is limitless. You can get an answer to any question you may have about Disney right here and I do believe that you get truer answers than you'd get calling Disney directly (though I believe in that as a first attempt). I also love reading the trip reports, seeing pictures of people's lovely hotel rooms and hearing the wonders of those rare, magical upgrades upon check-in.

The Disboards are a curse because they have put me in a position of overthinking my vacation waaaay more than I ever intended to. We are booked at the Grand which is where I've wanted to stay since it opened back in '88, but I have read such conflicting reports, some discussing horrible mousekeeping, poorly appointed rooms, rude CMs and most recently, news of the floors being all torn up while I'm there. There really is such a thing as "too much" information. I'm now obsessing about whether or not to change or rez to the CR or Poly and to be honest, I'm driving my DBF crazy to the point where he is insisting that I no longer read these boards. His point of view is, "You've always wanted to stay at the Grand, we've booked the Grand, we've paid for the Grand...stop reading the boards, and I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time!" I've also been obsessing over room requests to the point that my GV request is so convoluted that I'm sure the CM who sees it is going to be irritated and in the end, we probably won't get what we want. On that note, I'm considering removing all room requests and casting fate to the wind, the Gods and pixie dust! :wizard:

Anyways, I'm rambling here. I don't know if I've firmly taken a side in this discussion, but I'll restate my original thought which is that these boards can definitely be both a blessing and a curse!

P.S.- Don't even get me started on ADRs!
