Thinking about lagoon view concierge but read that the 2nd floor does not have a balcony. What are your feelings on this? Does the window open up? Thanks for any opinions on this. Do you think you would stay somewhere else at the Poly to get a lagoon balcony, or is concierge so worth it that it doesn't matter?

I don't have a problem with the 2nd floors not having a balcony. We spend a lot of time by the pool and beach areas anyway. Have a great trip. :thumbsup2

So you really don't miss having a balcony? Do the doors open up though so you can get a sense of being outside?

To tell you honestly, I missed the balcony and was annoyed the room didn't have one. I felt I paid all that money to stay at a deluxe hotel, which includes balconies and I didn't get one. Once I found my room was on the 2nd floor, I asked to be moved, but nothing else was available. I don't know why they built the 2nd floor without balconies. :confused3

Thank you for your honest opinion rileyroosmom. This is how I was feeling too. To not have a balcony and still pay the same price was not sitting well with me. The reason we wanted a balcony was so if my DGD was tired, we wouldn't have to miss the EWP and Wishes and could sit on the balcony and watch it. It seems like it might not have the same ambience? Maybe Tahiti would be better since they all have lagoon view balconies?

If Tahiti has balconies on all floors and that what is important to you, I'd request that building (keeping in mind it is only a request!). We were in Samoa, overlooking the pool and you could see the lagoon and GF, Monorail off to the right. It was a great location, but would have been better if I could have sat outside and enjoyed it!!

Yes, the doors open.

What do the doors open to? If there is nothing to step out on, why are there doors? I'm confused - help?

There are 3rd floor concierge rooms with balconies (I was just told). I just switched my res. from WL CL to Poly GVC 3rd floor!! Can't wait!!

But you can't be guaranteed a 3rd floor room in concierge, can you? What if they put you on the 2nd floor instead? There is no balcony! Would that be okay with you?

Third floor will be a request only. You might still get 2nd floor without a balcony or even first floor.

There are sliding doors to open for fresh air and then a wooden railing. We did not miss the balcony, as when we did have one, it was always inhabited by those horrible birds and their mess.

We liked second floor.

No. Many of the buildings at the Polynesian do not have a balcony on the second floor because that is the traditional Polyesian style. Only the newer buildings have balconies on the second floor.

I, too, would prefer a belcony. We did put a request for the 3rd floor, we are hoping for the best! We made our reservation 9 months in advance, hopefully that will help w/ the request.

No, you can't. It's just a request.

Is there any leeway between the doors and the wooden railing? Can you step out a bit - I'm guessing not, or it might be considered a balcony?

I truly do not remember, you can go to Tikiman's site and look at the photos. Seems there might have been some leeway about the width of the support post, I know we could lean out and see in both directions over the railing.
