Staying in the THV from Aug. 16-21 (first week of free dining) so I've decided to eat NO dinners at WDW table service restaurants. I have given up eating on-site due to the high cost and not so good quality of the meals. I know WDW will not miss us (although they might since we would be paying full price for our meals) and we'll miss the convenience of eating in the parks. Oh well, it'll be fun for us to go explore outside the bubble.

Currently on tap for our group of 8:
Mom's birthday dinner at Texas De Brazil
Pei Wei (a Kevin recommendation)
Pizza in the Tree House Villa
Spaghetti night in the Villa
Looking for something for last night. Probably downtown Disney

Wait a sec, wait a sec,

You're going when Disney is going to give you FREE MEALS and you're not going to eat at the restaurants for one reason being the "high cost"

???????

I totally understand that MANY disney restaurants are crap, but i guarantee you can find good food at at least enough places to use your credits.

Did u mean just no dinners? and you'll use em for bfast or lunch???

Just curious :-)

And I was gonna be in a tree house villa those exact same days! But we had to switch resorts cuz of in law stuff. Still a little sad about it :-(

Well, the OP didn't say they booked free dining, just that they were going to be there during free dining. If they didn't book free dining (which I'm assuming they didn't since they mention paying full price for food), I can totally understand wanting to avoid the TS restaurants for dinner. I've done the same thing the past couple of years, as I would book an AP discount on the room, and pay OOP for my food.

If you aren't booked for free dining, and you want TS, your best bet is lunch time, because most of the free diners consider that to be the least value as far as their credits are concerned. But the OP has made some good choices as far as off property and in villa dining, and I don't think they will miss the madhouse of TS restaurants during free dining one bit.

AHHH- duh- shows how observant I am!
I guess i just assumed they were using the snacks and maybe CS but just skipping TS places :-)

OP I am so with you, if I had my villa booked during free dining I would avoid WDW dining venues for sure. No way I would want to bein tose crowds while WDW tinkers with and adjust menus--seems that free dining always falls when it is time ot revisit what will be on tap for the next year in dining plans--kind of an experiment of what will eb tolerated, highest projected losses, what things people complain most about etc. Good news for you though, the parks should be pretty clear sailing as many upgrade to DXDDP and have little time for the parks!
