I asked DD14 when her graduation was since I hadn't heard anything and she told me they didn't have one. What???????!!!!! I thought all Jr high's had one. I was all prepared for hers. I got her graduation bears and a gift card. I am so upset that she does not get to have that experience. The other school in our city, actualy the one she should be going to, is having one. I was thinking about planning something for her and her friends but I don't know what. Money is kind of tight right now. Any suggestions?

It's been many, many years since I graduated middle school, but I do remember that there was no graduation ceremony or anything. My parents did throw a little party for me. Very small with just family and close friends. You could throw a small party at home and just invite her closest friends.

I teach at a Middle School and we don't have a graduation at ours. My dd goes to a private school that is k-8 and they have one for kindergarten and for 8th grade.

Our middle school doesn't have graduation either. They just have an eighth grade awards ceremony, like the sixth and seventh grade awards but with a couple extra. It was explained that graduation was saved for high school. We don't have fifth grade graduation either, just a promotion ceremony.

Our 8th grade class has a "moving up" ceremony. (Yes, Public School) They practice for the ceremony for 2 days before. It is just like a graduation, except they don't wear a cap and gown. Family is invited.

Have a couple of her friends over for pizza or something. Doesn't have to be anything fancy.

Our public school has 8th grade graduation and always has. They wear a cap and gown and it's held at our Performing Arts Center on the stage. Kind of a big deal actually.

I went to a puplic school and had one.I also had a 6 grade one and KG.My brother went to a different school and also had a 8th grad graduation. I thought all kids had one.

Our public middle school does have an 8th grade graduation.

I went to a public school and we had the eight grade graduation and dance, its almost as big as the prom around here!

Where I grew up we didn't have an 8th grade graduation, but the junior high here is Illinois does. It is quite a big deal and people even have graduation parties for 8th grade graduations!!!

Went to public school and even though it was a small school district we even had 8th grade graduation. Then again that was back in the stone age known as 1981. :rotfl: Just kidding about the stone age part :)

OUr local school this year had an awards ceremony and then a dance. The ceremony ran long so the dance was only 1 hour and 15 min. I know this because my neighbor girl was in 8th grade--DD#1 will be there next year.
When I was getting out of junior high (in the BIGGER stone age, 1977!) we had a dance before the year ended but no formal ceremony. The whole school watched a movie on the last day of school like we did in 6th and 7th grades. We had been on a tour of the HS months before, though.

About a million years ago (or really just 7) when I was in 8th grade we had a graduation and it was a big deal to us. We also had a very small school (hs graduating class of under 120). I know I had a graduation party that summer. And we redid the whole thing when we were seniors. I liked it! It was fun! The one difference b/w the two nights was in 8th grade we just had graduation. In 12th we had a "graduation gala" where we were loaded onto buses immediately after the ceremony (to avoid any chances of drinking) and went out to a nice restaurant that had been rented out where we had a kinda dinner/dance thing. Then back on the buses and off to the local college where we had access to the indoor pool, we had a DJ, those sumo wreslter suits, and climbing walls etc, and kareoke. Great time! :cool1:

In 92 when I "graduated" 8th grade, we had a ceremony. This was a very small public school, there were only 16 "graduates". no cap and gown. we wore prom type dresses and the boys had boutinears and us girls had corsages. We showed a slideshow with pictures of everyone. We even had a clergy person of some kind do a prayer (that was weird to me though)

We also had an 8th grade class trip.

My son had an 8th grade picnic, but there is no graduation. I'm glad they don't make a big deal of it, I think the BIG celebrations should be saved for senior year! There are over 900 students in my son's middle school alone, and 5 more in the county just like it.

Graduation is limited to High School and College here as it should be. Every grade has some sort of awards program at the end of each year and the grades that are moving on to another school have kind of a special send off. I personally think all of these "graduation" ceremonies for grades other than the real deal are silly.
When my dd finished kindergarten last year I did give her and Eeyore graduate stuffed beanie but that was mainly because she loves Eeyore and has her whole room decorated with Eeyore.
