A question that i cannot find the answer to:
I am self employed, but now found out I will be having a c-section, and unable to work for about 6 weeks (pre and post pregnancy). Am I eligible for NJ short term disability? For pregnanacy, you are but I am not sure about the self-employed part. I am registered as a business ect with the state.

Have you been paying yourself as an employee, and paying in to the state Disability fund?

There is a cost that both the employer and employee pay in to the fund which essentially pays for disability insurance coverage. Even though you are a registered business in the state of NJ, I don't believe you are eligible to collect disability benefits UNLESS you have been paying in to the insurance fund.

Also, not sure how it works in NJ, I'm in PA, and for the first year I paid for ST diasability insurance, I could not "go out" on a disability claim...to prevent abuse of the system and what-not....
