What should be a beach full of people is empty. There were some people, but most were there to see the fury of the ocean.

This is a lifeguard that went out for a "swim"

Is it sunny there? We're west of the turnpike and it's cold, cloudy and windy here. We all have long pants and long sleeves on.

We have wind, clouds and on and off sprinkles here.

Yup, it was beautiful yesterday. Right now it's only about 65 degrees and breezy. I put on long pants and socks, but my windows are still open.

Thought about driving to the bay to look at the water, but I'm too lazy.

Here in Virginia Beach we are having wind, but nothing close to tropical wind and we had rain earlier today and the clouds are swirling.

A friend of ours just called from a Rhode Island Beach. It's sunny but a surfer drowned yesterday near Naragansett.

Nope, it wasn't sunny. It was cool and windy.

We only took a ride down to see what was going on. The pictures were taken along Long Branch. There was NO swimming allowed. The pictures don't show it, but the beach comes to an end and now drops about 3 feet down to the water.

Whoa! You don't often get to see waves like that at the shore! This is just an amazing storm. I hope all is well with everyone in Florida.

Are we feeling the affects of Frances here, now? It has been cloudy and windy here all day. I'm north of Philly. It was the perfect day for yard work. Is the weather in the area affected by Frances already?

buzzlady..... what kind of trees are those in the picture..... at first I thought I was looking at pictures of palm trees until I realized that the pictures were from the Jersey shore. Some beaches in MA were closed for the weekend because of dangerous rip currents caused by Frances. Seems the effects from this storm were far reaching.

I only hope we don't get the remnants fron Frances on Tuesday. It's our first day of school and we CAN'T have inside recess with first graders on the very first day of school

We were in Stone Harbor on Friday and Saturday -- perfect beach weather for us. The kids loved the rough surf boogie boarding and it was sunny/cloudy. It was gorgeous. Plus the island was empty, vacancies everywhere. Sunday we went up to the beach and got blown away, lifeguards only letting you in up to your waist. So we headed up to Cape May -- apparently everyone else had the same idea. Just got home.

Son does beach patrol in Ocean City, NJ. They actually closed the beach to surfers. This is very rare. They got tired of pulling them off the jetty. Very limited swim zone. He and his brother went to Cape May to surf also.

They ARE palm trees. Of course they were planted there and don't grow around NJ naturally. Many times restaurant or cafes on the beach will plant them for the atmosphere.

I was wondering about the trees too. Which NJ shore is this.

We went to Seven President's Park in Long Branch which is near Sandy Hook.

Those trees look like the "fake" ones they have at Jenkinson's!

Sandy Hook being a point break always gets it a bit worst. Every time I hear about a surfer drowning it scares me to death. Seeing that my sons are 17yo I'm not going to be stopping them from surfing. They're already planning their trips to places with bigger waves when they get a bit older and have some money. Along the East Coast the only time we get good surf is when a hurricane is off the coast.

Went to Point yesterday and their beaches were closed then, luckily we were only trying to do the Boards so it didn't matter to much to us. Kind of weird seeing all those bodies on the sand but none in the water. Was a beautiful day. Today on the other hand was not as nice, very breezy and cool, but we were able to stay outside for my sister's barbacue in Brick.
