NJ DVC Members, how do you handle referrals?

i checked on the DVC website, and it said that NJ doesn't allow submission of personal info or something, so you can't use the form on the website.

instead you have to print out and fill out a card w/ your name and Member# and then give that out to people and those people have to fill out their own info and mail it in to DVC themselves?

that seems so tedious (not to mention, who wants to give out their Member# it's our identification... security risk? so guess we're not referring any casual acquaintances). can't we just call our guide and give our guide our friends' name + phone#?

how have you handled referrals in the past if you're a NJ resident?

We have referred 3 couples with one buying. What I have done is called my guide and gave him the contact info for my friends and that has worked fine.

If you have a copy of your Fast Facts *Sharing the Magic Rewards Guide*, #5 states NJ residents must give a postcard to their friends to have them mail to DVC* There is also a long explanation under terms and conditions # 10, New Jersey Only. Synopsis....the recipient of the card must be told the giver (DVC member) will receive compensation should the introduced guest contact DVD and purchase an ownership in a DVC resort.

We have referred 2 families. In each case, we didn't use a post-card....Rather, we told them where the sales center is and asked them to mention us. It worked fine and we enjoyed our disney dollars the last time we were down in WDW. :teeth:

yeah, i finally talked to my Guide about this. she told me the same thing that Laura24 posted above, and she had the Share the Magic division mail me some postcards.

i got them today, they are nice postcards, but it's weird, there are no instructions, and it looks like maybe i am just supposed to send a postcard to my friend and handwrite the DVC contact info for them? 'cause they are not preaddressed to DVC or anything.
has anyone actually used these postcards before? and how did you fill it out?
is NJ the only state that is supposed to do this?
how come other Guides have let the rules slide it seems?

actually this question will make more sense if i post a scan of the postcard so you guys can look at it.

i'll post back when i've scanned it and put it up on a webpage.

I call my guide with an names of people who tell me they're interested. (Thanks Linda!) I usually just leave a voice mail and she lets me know when information is sent to them by mail. Once your name is connected with the interested parties name its your referral in the DVC computer.

Seems pretty stright forward to me.
You address it to your friends, put a stamp on it and send it, after you fill in your guide's name and phone number. You put your name and member number beside the appropriate area. Then they have the option of calling or bringing it in on a visit.

don't you feel odd sending it with the notation that the referring DVC member may be compensated for this referral? It makes me feel uncomfortable, as if it is my only incentive for the referral. And then again I feel as I should be splitting the compensation if the referral is successfully completed. Call me crazy, but it nags at my mind each time I receive one of those cards.
