My mom got us a room w/ a veranda and um.. I'm kinda worried. I am only 12 and my brother 9 and sister 5 will be in a room w/ me and my parents and brother 3 will be in the room agoining w/ us. Well, right after I found out we were going on the cruise, they started. I was having nightmares of my little sister leaning ove a tiny railing and falling off the veranda in the middle of the night. Is this possible?

Don't worry about it sweetie! Make sure mom and dad lock the door---it's very hard to open---she'll never be able to get it open. The verandah rail is pretty high too.

You are a great sister!

You definitely have nothing to worry about. The railing is high and it has plexiglass on it. The bars are on the other side of the plexiglass too so your little brother and sister can't climb on it. CRB#3 is right too-- the door is really hard to open and your little sister probably won't be able to open it. I had a hard time getting it open sometimes. There is also a second lock up high, so you can always lock that too!

Have a great time. You'll LOVE the verandah once you get there!

How loving of you to be worried about your family!

Once the door is locked - it is very hard to open - Even parents have a hard time opening it (I had to have my husand open it every time, I just couldn't figure it out!)

There is plexiglass and the railings are on the other side of the plexi -

Hope all of these responses help you have better dreams at night!

nurseb DD - put your worries to rest. Your little sister will not be able to open the door - it's all I could do was to get it open & it does have a lock up at the top for added safety.

Take advantage of that Verandah - you will love it. I suggest (with your parents permission) order room service and eat it out on the verandah. The cookies they have are excellant. We ordered our breakfast and ate it on the verandah while we were docking at Castaway Cay - Life can't get much better than that.

Dream happy thoughts - your trip will be magical!

Nurseb's DD -

You are showing a great deal of caring and responsibility. Many parents have shared the same concern on these boards. I agree with the responses from the posters above.

A couple of additional thoughts: Share your concerns with your parents. You might feel much better just talking with them about it. Also, you might ask your parents to set down some "verandah rules" with your brother & sister. We set them for our children on our first cruise and we stuck to them:
1) No opening the verandah door without talking to one of us (for DS who was 12 at the time)
2) No going out on the verandah without Mom or Dad (for DD who was 4 at the time)
3) No standing on furniture to see better
4) DS could not pick up DD to see better - that was our job.

Both of them stuck to the rules and we have spent much time on our cruises out on the verandah and really enjoyed it. Of course, over the past 4 years, the rules have lightened up alot for DS (now almost 16) and DD (8) doesn't need anyone to pick her up anymore to see better.

Have a great cruise!!

nursebdd...I hope the other posters have put you fears to rest....

Talk to your parents and try to enjoy your trip,,,,,

As long as the door is shut, you would not need to worry! Even I have a hard time opening the door!!!!

Nurseb's DD, I just wanted to say You are such a loving sweet girl thinking about your Family like this! I have not been lucky enough to stay in a room with a veranda but I wouldn't worry seeing what the others have posted.

You have a Magical Happy Vacation! :earsboy:

I wish I had a child like you, I'm more worried about my DD4 trying to push her brother (10) overboard! Don't worry, and have a lot of fun. Post a trip report for us when you get back!

Nurseb,
there's only one problem:
According to my knowledge Disney does NOT allow a room with minors only. At least one person of at lesat 21 years of age must be booked into each stateroom. This is listed for every cruise with Disney, Voyager of the Seas, etc. in the catalogues.
Your parents should act clever when embarking and don't tell DCL about their intentions. With a reasonable girl like you are they can enjoy their privacy.

Have a wonderful cruise

our rooms are connected. my mom and dad say that the door has to be open all the time. She is even bringing duck tape to keep them open. Thenks ewveryone for all your help. I feel muuch better!!

I'm glad everyone made you feel better. :)

Please tell your parents that the connecting doors can't be held open with duct tape, they are much too heavy. What we did is use trash cans to hold them open partially.

I'm sure you're all going to have a MAGICAL cruise -- have fun! :sunny:

.well you do not have to worry at all.I am 5 10 tall and veranda railing was almost up to my chest high.so there is no way that anybody can crawl over it.
