Nintendo/Universal team up for theme park attractions

Every child who grew up in the 80s/90s/00s, boys AND girls, grew up with Nintendo. The "teenage boys" thing is just (for lack of a better term) generational ignorance.

ITA! As someone born in 1975, Nintendo was HUGE for me. We still have functioning NES and Super NES machines. They're actually sitting in my office right now because I brought them to work so we could play the games on a fun day we had here recently, and when word leaked out that I had an original Super NES, they requested that I bring it in to play. Super Mario brothers was hugely popular, both with my coworkers (generally people in their 30s-40s) AND their kids, who thought it was so cool to play an old school game. My kids play both Super Mario Brothers and the Legend of Zelda at home. I think they'd LOVE a Nintendo themed land at Universal. This is so exciting!

If this does come to Universal that would be huge for us. We usually spend the whole trip at Disney, but this combined with HP would necessitate us doing half our days at Universal. We're all big gamers in my house (DH & I are are 40ish, and we have two sons 15 & 11), so we'd be all over this...

This is very, very smart IMO. Personally I don't care what IP they use - I'm just excited by anything they do nowadays.

I think it's a stroke of genius! Even my daughter took notice when I mentioned it this morning. I just wish it had been 10 years earlier since my Nintendo fantatic just turned 20 and is sort of busy with college these days.

We decided to adopt a pair of kittens this summer. And we're kicking around maybe naming them Mario and Luigi. :)

Mine is 22 and into Xbox now. :)

He will still be interested though. I've noticed him reminiscing a little about when he was young lately. Imagine! ;)

I'm bummed that I won't get to see this since we're going next month and I don't foresee myself going again in the near future.
I'm female and in my 30s and i would LOVE this!!!!

I'm 38, not a gamer, have no kids and I'M excited.

Universals "demographic" is ANYONE who enjoys incredibly well themed, fun, technologically amazing attractions.

I hope Disney is furiously taking notes (on everything from how to generate excitement over a new project, to how to utilize tech to make an amazing attraction, to how to build said attraction in less time than it takes toerect a pyramid in Egypt) and applying it to whatever they have in store for for DHS.

Huge Nintendo fan here! This partnership will be the sole reason for our family hitting up universal. I can't wait to see what they come up with.
Me too! My DH and DS 8 will be in heaven and I'm pretty excited too. I read in one artical last light that is is coming to Orlando. Will try to lokk for the link when I get home later. Would love a Mario Kart race track. Might hold more interest than the Tomorrowland Speedway at MK. This would actually get me back into Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. I've been waiting to go see HP since nothing else in the parks really excite my kiddos (They are not big on thrill rides!)

Avatar Land does not interest anyone in my family though so even though Disney is adding something new (someday...) it won't be any real draw for us.

I have no idea why, but we have everything EXCEPT Xbox here.

My 22 year old plays a little Madden football every now and then, but he's definitely not the gamer here.

The 20 year old is at an engineering school where it's practically an entrance requirement to play a lot of video games. ;)

I hope your son can find something in Marioland (maybe?) to enjoy!

Do iiiitttt! Those are great names. I'm thinking of ditching the Norse God tradition and going with Link for my next kitty.

I'm all for it. But there are other voters involved. We might end up with Mario and Chester. :( I mean, how is THAT any fun!

This. I'm 39. I played the original Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda on the NES I got for Christmas the year I turned 13. I am _super_ excited about this. That kind of stuff is smack dab in the middle of my demographic as far as things I grew up with.

I've posted this in other threads about this announcement....but wouldn't a Radiator Springs Racers type of ride themed to Mario Kart have off-the-charts potential?

Really shrewd move by Universal.

Definitely! I wonder if they could do anything with super smash bros.

If it were an entire themed land, I would be so into that. Technically, you could probably make an entire theme park out of Nintendo IP. Mario land, Zelda land, Animal Crossing land, maybe Pokemon land (not sure if Nintendo owns all of the IP for Pokemon).

That would be freaking amazing!

I'm sure my son would love to take you on in Smash Brothers! I might convert him to a theme park guy if they did something with that.

LOL

Disney's building rides is like cathedral building in the Middle Ages...the people who worked on them knew that they might not live to see their completion, but they toiled anyway.

(Kidding...sort of :))

Oh, he'd probably kick my butt! I do okay with zero suit samus and wii fit trainer though haha.

All they need is a motion simulator ride based on the Mario Kart Rainbow Road map and i'd be sold, even though it would probably trigger some repressed memories growing up lol
