Nintendo/Universal team up for theme park attractions

I want to drink a Pigeon Milk Latte at The Roost, but unfortunately I feel like Animal Crossing is low on the list of franchises that would appear at any theme park additions.

I posted this in the Universal thread about the announcement. This was announced waaay early for Universal. This could be the Avatarland on Universal announcement possibly because Nintendo wanted it announced so early. As far as possible location for the expansion, my first choice would be the "unused" plot of land beside MIB and behind the Simpsons possible combined with all or part of the current Curious George/Barney/Kidszone area. Starting in that area, they could build a "stage 1" of the new land before tearing out the existing kids attractions. Over in IOA, Toon Lagoon, or Lost continent would be a second or third possible spot. For me, a distant 4th would be Marvel Super Hero Island.

For a quick initial injection into the park, part of Volcano Bay (the new Water Park) could also be themed to Nintendo.

I've heard a bunch of neat ideas floated around. Mario kart ride, a haunted "Luigi's Mansion" dark ride.

On the bright side you could just show up with an axe and start chopping down trees and get the same effect. Although you may end up getting arrested. But if it's anything like the real Animal Crossing you can just claim lost items at the police station and walk out afterwards.

LOL

Disney's building rides is like cathedral building in the Middle Ages...the people who worked on them knew that they might not live to see their completion, but they toiled anyway.

(Kidding...sort of :))

That's only so funny because it's so true! :rotfl2:

Every child who grew up in the 80s/90s/00s, boys AND girls, grew up with Nintendo. The "teenage boys" thing is just (for lack of a better term) generational ignorance.

Despite my "ignorance", I did play video games growing up - we even had them in the 70s believe it or not! (google Atari) and continue to play computer games, albeit not Nientendo. I even did contract work as a GM for a gaming company. My comment is simply my personal opinion and was not intended to offend anyone. I like what I like. I know what my teenage nephews like and what Universal has is right down their alley - they are glued to their nintendos. I think Universal will be fun this fall, but am I personally excited by their IPs? No. Did I ever say girls/women don't play video game? Never. I said the IPs at Universal as a whole (not just nintendo) are more targeted to young male audience and I'll stand by that. Do women like many of those IPs too? Absolutely. Just not me.

I don't call you ignorant because your opinion isn't the same as mine - it's simply not a nice thing to do.

I love Harry Potter but even that was never enough to lure me to Universal. But Nintendo? I'm so going!

In reference to some nay sayers - middle aged woman here. LOVE THIS probably more excited than my middle aged husband! ;)

It's interesting to compare this positive reception with the response Disney got with their Avatar announcement.

I agree about the IPs in general. Like the Disney Princesses franchise on the whole is geared to girls age 2-10, but certainly a lot of other people enjoy it whether through their kids or just on their own. Universal is definitely going after the teens/tweens.

I grew up on the NES so I am in favor of any Nintendo type ride. Plus, I worked for Nintendo for a short time so I am a little biased. ;)

42 year old mom with 13 year old son and we're both super excited about this!!

This is good news. I personally had an NES system back in the 80's. It was what I considered my very first gaming console since I didn't count messing around on my Atari 2600 as genuine gaming. Thirty years later my 10 year old son has a Nintendo 3DS that you couldn't pry out of his hands.

Nintendo games span several generations.

Guess I gotta start saving for Universal now; I've never been there, but now I have some extra motivation to go.

It's kind of the ultimate irony that Universal and Nintendo are teaming up when Universal tried to sue Nintendo over Donkey Kong back in the early 80's.

So excited for this. Our family loves the Nintendo games, especially Super Mario Brother and Mario Kart.

Our last trip we only stayed 3 nights at Disney and 5 nights at Universal. My 9 year old son is going to love this, so I predict we will be spending more and more time at Universal.

I have no idea why, but we have everything EXCEPT Xbox here.

My 22 year old plays a little Madden football every now and then, but he's definitely not the gamer here.

The 20 year old is at an engineering school where it's practically an entrance requirement to play a lot of video games. ;)

I hope your son can find something in Marioland (maybe?) to enjoy!

Ha! So true! My 20 year old, who is a HUGE gamer, is at college getting his Masters in software engineering. He sent the whole family a text just after 7 am on Thursday that he had read about Nintendo coming to Universal from some Japanese gaming source. To say he is excited is a huge understatement. :hyper:

Well, mine isn't studying software engineering, but there are plenty there who are. So I'll be curious to see if he heard about it too.

My son is a software engineer with a specialty in gaming too!

Does he love it? It has been pretty much a forgone conclusion that DS would go into that field since he was 6 years old and wrote Nintendo (or was it Sega?) a fan letter asking them if he could work for them when he was older. :rotfl:They sent him a very nice letter back outlining the things he would need to get a job there in the future. I still have a copy of both letters. :)

It can get tough at times (crunch times when a game is coming out and hours are sooooooo long) but he can't picture himself doing anything else.
