Meh, ride based off super Mario bros and Zelda. I don't see it being that huge and lasting. And from the article it looks like it's going to Universal Studios in Japan..no mention of Orlando or Hollywood.
For news for Universal here in Florida I heard their going to be adding a King Kong ride
Huge and lasting? Nintendo has been around for 30 years now. And Universal Orlando Resort's blog has posted the news. It is coming to UOR. So is Kong. And Volcano Bay. And....
The reason I have yet to go to Universal is none of their IPs interest me and Nintendo falls right into that category. I realize as a 40-something woman I'm not their target audience. I am going there this fall but only because my husband wants to try it not because I'm really dying to go. Teenage boys and people who like what teenage boys like seems to be their target audience with the exception of HP, which has a broader appeal, but still not something I'm personally into.
Here's the cool thing: it's all well done. People who don't care about Harry Potter love it because the designers LOVE the world. Same for Nintendo. Do not undersell Universal, I was born a Disney fan and I cannot stop going to Universal now.
As long as they don't build a Nintendo Land I'm good. I can resist HP land and a Nintendo ride or two, might try it once in the next 10 years to say I did. If they build a Nintendo Land my kids will DEMAND we take 3 or 4 days off to stay at US each WDW trip. And quite frankly if it's themed as well as they themed HP, I'd want to be there a few days myself.
Luckily it'll only be a ride or two for sure. At least that's what I'm telling myself in my head.
It'll be a Nintendo Land. Maybe consider a few nights in Cabana Bay while doing the Potter trip? I think 2018 would be a good aiming date.
If this does come to Universal that would be huge for us. We usually spend the whole trip at Disney, but this combined with HP would necessitate us doing half our days at Universal. We're all big gamers in my house (DH & I are are 40ish, and we have two sons 15 & 11), so we'd be all over this...
It's coming to Universal Studios Florida. It'll be awesome. And somehow people think Disney shouldn't be 'afraid' of Nintendo coming to Universal. Sounds familiar from 2007...
I'm bummed that I won't get to see this since we're going next month and I don't foresee myself going again in the near future.
I'm female and in my 30s and i would LOVE this!!!!
Enjoy Diagon Alley! Have fire whisky for me!
I'm 38, not a gamer, have no kids and I'M excited.
Universals "demographic" is ANYONE who enjoys incredibly well themed, fun, technologically amazing attractions.
I hope Disney is furiously taking notes (on everything from how to generate excitement over a new project, to how to utilize tech to make an amazing attraction, to how to build said attraction in less time than it takes toerect a pyramid in Egypt) and applying it to whatever they have in store for for DHS.
Take my word, they have, but I'm not sure they can. Anyway, I agree totally with your comment on 'ANYONE who enjoys incredibly well themed, fun, technologically amazing attractions'. Universal is not Disney, and Disney is not Universal. Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, but they're both amazing.
I posted this in the Universal thread about the announcement. This was announced waaay early for Universal. This could be the Avatarland on Universal announcement possibly because Nintendo wanted it announced so early. As far as possible location for the expansion, my first choice would be the "unused" plot of land beside MIB and behind the Simpsons possible combined with all or part of the current Curious George/Barney/Kidszone area. Starting in that area, they could build a "stage 1" of the new land before tearing out the existing kids attractions. Over in IOA, Toon Lagoon, or Lost continent would be a second or third possible spot. For me, a distant 4th would be Marvel Super Hero Island.
For a quick initial injection into the park, part of Volcano Bay (the new Water Park) could also be themed to Nintendo.
I've heard a bunch of neat ideas floated around. Mario kart ride, a haunted "Luigi's Mansion" dark ride.
Unlike Avatar, Universal has been working on attractions for this before the announcement. This will be in USF.
42 year old mom with 13 year old son and we're both super excited about this!!
Guess I gotta start saving for Universal now; I've never been there, but now I have some extra motivation to go.
It's kind of the ultimate irony that Universal and Nintendo are teaming up when Universal tried to sue Nintendo over Donkey Kong back in the early 80's.
Nintendo + Universal = Genius Plan
So excited for this. Our family loves the Nintendo games, especially Super Mario Brother and Mario Kart.
Our last trip we only stayed 3 nights at Disney and 5 nights at Universal. My 9 year old son is going to love this, so I predict we will be spending more and more time at Universal.
No reason to worry Mr Iger. All is going according to plan. #neverbeenbetter
