I'm torn between a DSi and a DiDj for Christmas. My son, will be 6 by Christmas, currently has a Leapster 2 that he plays in the car mostly and many of the games that he plays at level 1 or 2. He has asked for both the DSi and the DiDj, mainly the DiDj based on the fact that I have made comments about wanting him to have something that has a learning aspect to it. I know many of his friends have a DS of some sort and that he enjoys playing them, but I still lean to the learning aspects of the Leap Frog products. He does enjoy his leapster and I feel he has learned quite a bit from it, but should I get him what I want him to have(DiDj) or what he really wants(DS)?

I worry that once he gets the DS that the leapster will set and gather dust. I also have the DiDj in the closet, purchased on clearance with a coupon for either $10 or $15 earlier this year, but I can ebay it and at least get my $ back.

HELP! What would you do?

We moved from Leapster to Didji last year when my DS was 7. He really wanted a DS but I got a Didji on clearance so that's what he got. He has enjoyed it. In fact we are going to get a new game this week because he lost a tooth. He would still love it if I got him a DS but I explained that a DS is much more expensive and we have to save our money for Disney World. :3dglasses

Since you already have a cheap Didji I would give him that for now. You can always do a DS in another year or 2.

My son got is DS when he turned 7. Dd is turning 6 next week and has asked for one for her birthday. I think she is definitely ready for it so we will get her that for her birthday. She still plays with her leapster almost daily and loves it!

Our experience... once you get the DS they will never touch the leapster or Didj again. Wish we could go back and re-do!

I would give him the Didj; he's still going to enjoy it and use it, and the graphics are a lot better than the leapster. I agree w/ pp's, you can always switch to the DS later, but once you go there, there's no going back LOL.
