Nintendo DS vs. Nintendo DS Lite, anoyone know?

Here's what I found out about the DS Lite from Toysrus.com.

-color screens are now even brighter
-less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter
-two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power
-microphone sits in the center of the unit, and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed
-stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original, and slides into a side storage slot
-Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access
-removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it's not in use

I say yes, it's worth it, but it's coming from a DM that plays her DS's DS too.

I have been told (and found out by trying to look for things!) that the DS is being discontinued. The nintendo rep also told me this. We have been looking for the sylus' for months sold separate. My advice, go the lite.

Can someone tell if there is a major difference between a gameboy advance and the DS lite.
DS already has a gameboy, but he wants a DS for Christmas.
Is there a major difference ?
Thanks

The DS Lite is much brighter and somewhat smaller. The biggest difference is it is becoming very hard to find accessory items for the original DS. We have both in our house because younges DD bit the dust and the replacement, thanks to the replacement plan I purchased for $20, was the DS.

The GBA vs DS is the games on the DS are more technically advanced. They use two screens for play, as opposed to one. Graphics are better as well. Good thing is you can still play the GBA games on the DS.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with a DS Lite for DS7 and a GBA for DS4.5. They are both very interested in video games and have an excellent track record for taking care of electronics.

The DS and DS Lite use the same "computer" inside, but they are physically different as described above. They play exactly the same games in exactly the same way. I would recommend the DS Lite over the DS unless they cost difference is a lot for you.

The DS and the GBA have different "computers" inside. The DS can play DS games AND GBA games. The GBA can only play GBA games and not DS games. I would recommend getting the DS over the GBA for kids of any age unless you are afraid that they'll lose it or unless the cost differences is a big problem for you. If you have two kids with two DS's, they can play games wirelessly with each other. My DS7 and DS4 love to wirelessly link theirs and play games together or send each other messages. The old GBA is just gathering dust.

I recently bought my DD a DS because I found it at our local grocery store for $99 on the clearance table. My question is, if they are discontinuing the original DS, do I need to stock up on any accessories, or will the stylus for the DS lite work with the DS? How about the screen protectors?

the screen protectors are the same, but the stylus' are bigger (rounder) for the lite.

Great information! Thanks.

There was a Nintendo DS FAQ tread on the Budget Board. I don't remember where though. HTH!!

The salesperson at GameStop told us that on the original DS, the power button was in an awkward location and many players accidentally turned the power off when they didn't mean to. On the Lite, they moved the power button (in addition to making the improvements noted by the other posters).

One cool thing about the DS Lite (possibly the DS has this feature too, I don't know) is that you can play vs. another person on their DS. Some (not all) of the DS games have this feature. Mario Kart is one game where one player with the game can play wirelessly (is that a word?) against another player who does not have the game.

Hope this helps!
