Anyone found a really good deal? I would need two.

What accessories do they really need? Should I buy screen protectors for my 7 year old? What does it actually come with? I'm assuming a charger? What about a case?

And this Club Penguin game... I guess I would need to buy two of them, too so they can play with each other? Or will the game transfer over if they are sitting beside each other?

Thanks for any help! I thought I was done shopping, but now they keep talking about this Club Penguin game. They already have Gameboys, but apparently these are pretty much obsolete. :headache: Will their Gameboy games play on the Lite?

Thanks so much for any help!

Gamestop was running a special for a few months where you could trade in your Gameboy and get a $40 credit toward the DS Lite. That's what we did for DD except we had 2 Gameboys so we got an $80 credit.

This was the best deal that we could find.

I've read about a few people getting them from Dell online with a coupon code.

Amazon seems to have pretty fair prices, too.

DD hasn't shown the need for a screen protector but we did get her a case. I think the charger came with the unit.

I believe you can play the Gameboy games on the Lite so that's even more reason to trade in the Gameboys.

Hope this helps.

It comes with 2 stylus (sp) & the charger. I think that was it.

We bought a car charger for it as a just in case but we only needed it once.

Santa is giving them each 3 more stylus's because my oldest started with original 2 & now only has one left (they fall out, she leaves them, they fall in the couch, etc..). My ds had the original 2 & an additional 2. All GONE! My kids are 5 & 7 that have them.

Yes you will need 2 games. I made the mistake of not getting my ds Super Mario when he got his a few weeks after my dd got hers this past summer.

OY!!! Fights galore since they both wanted to play it & now they play each other.

I didn't get then screen protectors. And they each only have 3 games. I told them if Santa doesn't bring them a game (which he is not), then they can use some of the money my sister gave them for Christmas to get a game.

I can help a little --

Amazon occassionally runs some pretty good deals -- other than that, it's hit and miss on trying to find deals on the DS.

The DS comes with two styluses (the pencil-like pointer), one screen protector and a charger. Or at least the one we bought did. I would suggest for a 7-year-old, to buy extra screen protectors, because the bottom screen does have a tendency to get a little scratched up. A case is not included -- but a good idea, because the DS games are so little, it's nice to have them secured in one spot, or they can get lost, never to be found again.

My DD has never played a game with another person, so I'm not sure how that works -- whether you would need 1 Penguin game or 2. Sorry. She's only chatted with someone else on a DS (and she didn't need any extra software to be able to do that).

Yes, the gameboy games will play on the DS, but only with the graphics that would have been showed up on the gameboy. If you can get a credit for trading in the Gameboy -- I would do it. Once they have the DS, they won't need the Gameboy anymore.

Do you have a GameStop near you? They accept trades. Their DS prices are the same-$129-as everywhere else.
Some DS games can play two people, but I think you have to buy a special cable. I was totally clueless when it came to buying that stuff. I just went around to the salespeople and started asking questions!

I would recommend one of the nerf cases and the screen protectors. My kids play theirs everywhere and careful as they may be, it is easy to drop it so the nerf cases are wonderful.

As for the game, look at the back it will tell you. My kids can ds download a majority of their games using just one game but a few they would each need their own. We got our DS5 and DD7 (their ages last year) each one for Christmas and even the lil one can figure out the ds download!

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna call Gamestop at 10. Now how do I explain their Gameboys missing? :rotfl:

Ok, I have no idea what all of this means, lol :confused3 Totally new to the whole ds thing, but I have gotten both of my kids a ds lite (5 and 7) for Christmas. So, how do you download, with a computer, or from the other one's ds, with this cable thing, or what? Any info anyone can give me woud be wonderful. I think my kids would like to play each other sometimes( assuming that's what this means).

What kind of games do this?

I have so far gotten:
Brain age 2(came with bundle)
Tinkerbell
Little Mermaid
Hot wheels beat that
Bunnyz
ATV/MOnster truck MAyhem
Arctic Tale(given to us)

Will any of these do whatever it is your talking about :rotfl: Sorry for my ignorance....

I found this online -

Another nice feature is a special Command Coach mode where a parent or older sibling can join in with a younger player to help them complete missions. By using two DS units connected wirelessly, the parent can serve as coach by circling areas to explore on his or her DS, and those hints then show up on the child's DS. It is a very clever addition to family gaming.

So does this mean I only need one game for both my kids to play??? :confused3

Santa is bringing One Club Penguin game for my two girls. One will put the game in her ds and the other will connect so they can both play at the same time!:santa:

There is no special cable needed, to play together with one game. On the back of DS games, top right corner usually, it has an emblem. It might say "Wireless DS Multi_Card Play" which means they can play together but need MULTIPLE cards (each have their own game). It might also say "Wireless DS Single Card play" which means they can play together by wirelessly connecting, when only ONE of them has the game. The box could have BOTH options, too. Or the box could say neither, meaning they can't play together at all.

We don't have dudplicate copies of ANY games, so my kids can only play together on the few single-card ones. I think the only ones we have that do that are Mario Kart DS and Mario Party DS.

Oh wait, my girls each have different versions of Nintendogs but they can interact with each other (the versions work with each other).

ETA: My Sims Kingdom has both emblems. Not sure how it would allow more than one player, the kids have never played that game at all (only I have!!)

This is what I did too. I only traded one in as i was afraid if I traded both, my son would know something was up. But $90 for the DS light was good for me!

Yes, I just called and they can trade them in for me for $89.99. That would save me $80 for the two of them! I think I'll tell them DH's coworker borrowed them for a trip with his kids??? I just can't think of anything else. I guess I'll put these under the tree instead of from Santa so I can tell them the truth later. :lmao:

Now, about the new DSi that is coming out in April... I'm wondering if we should wait instead? It will cost $180, though. It is basically the Lite, but with music and a camera built in. You won't be able to play GBA games, though.

I bought the GBA for them both when DS first came out and I debated back then. Boy, did I choose the wrong system

If it has both emblems, meaning you can use 1 card or each have thier own card depends on how much the second player can interact in the other's game.
On brain age, you can compete against each other in math quizzes using just one card.

I highly suggest using gamefaqs.com there's specific boards for each game, and for the consoles if you're having any problem or are trying to figure it all out. I love that site. I used to live on it for about 2 years, as there are social boards for general chit-chat.

Don't worry, just hand the things over to the kids. And if they don't figure it out immediatly, they'll ask friends at school how to do things. Don't you know they're smarter than you are? Isn't that why you have them around, to figure out why the DVD player isn't working, or how to use the new features on the phone?
I don't know how many times I've told parents just hand it to your kid, they'll figure it out for you in no time. Not saying they will be able to explain it to you, what they did, but they can do it.
