Does anyone know if you can use a Nikon lense on a Canon rebel? Someone was going to loan me a lense to take on an Alaskan cruise- but is Nikon. Thanks for any help. :goodvibes

Believe it or not, yes! You CAN attach a Nikon lens onto a Canon camera. However, you'll need to buy a separate Nikon-to-Canon lens mount adapter so that the lens can physically attach to your camera. You can buy one at B&H for $270 (link). I think you can also buy one on eBay, too.

The other "however" is that you probably (1) won't be able to autofocus, (2) probably won't get image stabilization, and (3) can't control the aperture size with this setup. You'd have to (1) focus manually, (2) hold your camera super still, and (3) hope that the Nikon lens has an aperture ring so you can manually adjust the aperture.

I think it might be cheaper and much less frustrating just to rent a Canon lens for your Alaska cruise. Either that or find new friends who shoot Canon. :)

Actually, here's an adapter from Amazon for $13.95 (link). Even though it's a more affordable adapter, I believe you'd still run into the same problems with autofocus, image stabilization, and aperture control.

OH wow- I certainly don't want to deal with that. I guess I'll be "forced" to buy a new lense. Thanks for your help anyway. :goodvibes
