I got a Nikon CoolPix 4600 camera for Easter and I love it.... but there are just a few things that I want to know about it before I take it to the World when I go.... only one of the question is really 4600 related, so anyone that has/knows how to use a Nikon CoolPix is my hero right now! I really appreciate any input!

1. There is a setting for taking pictures of fireworks - how well does that work?

2. With a 256MB memory card, about how many pictures should I be able to take before I run our of memory space? When I put in the memory card it said [999] in the space where it tells you how many pictures can be saved in the space that's left, but in my attempt to find how many pictures it holds I have nearly 200 pictures saved on the camera and it still hasn't changed from [999]... I'm confused!

3. What is the best batteries to use? It eats up batteries so fast... and I try not to keep it on for too long when I'm not using it, I have it on the 30second auto-sleep thing, I usually have the moniter turned off while I take pictures.... I have a AA recharger, so it's not too big of a deal, but it eats up battieries at a ridiculous speed, so what do you do?

4. Can the videos capture sound on the 4600, because the guy at Boscov's said it could - that's one of the reasons why I picked this camera... it has microphone holes(even though the camera guide says the mic. is only on the 5600), but I don't know if it captures sound or not, does anyone know?

5. What's a good but inexpensive camera case that I could buy... should I just look at Walmart or Target and see what I can find?

If I think of anymore questions I'll post them later.. thank you!! :worship:

I will try to address the issues best I can I do not have the camera but I used to own the 5400.

1. The fireworks setting works well just make sure you are using a tripod or at least a monopod.

2.There is a good chance you have your resolution and quality set at a very low setting allowing you to take over 1,000 pictures on a card of that size. Up your resolution and quality and I think you will see that your file sizes and picture quality will improve.

3. The best batteries are the Nikon specific rechargable batteries but they are way more expensive than an extra set of good rechargables and a charger.

4. You are right the store guy is wrong, there is no sound on the movies for the 4600 only the 5600. This is why for the most part I don't leave my research to store sales people they don't many of the specifics for most products only a bit about a lot of different stuff.

5. Go to Best Buy and look at a LowePro case these are very nice it is basically all I use now. Depending on what else you want to carry look at maybe a Rezo 20 or 30.

I hoped this helped. Enjoy your new camera and your trip to Disney!! :wave2:

I would suggest reading your owners manual and then practicing with the camera before you hit the parks. It also should mention in the manual how many pictures can be held on the memory card. Also keep in mind when you get to WDW what you are going to do with the photos. If you are only going to view them onscreen you can take them at a lower resolution. If you plan on printing then I would take them at a med.high to high resolution.

As far as batteries they all use a lot of batteries. You mentioned leaving the monitor off, etc. so you are on the right track. Good rechargeable batteries are the way to go. It is still cheaper than film so enjoy all the benefits of digital.
