After crossing into Florida, we were getting really stoked. We were so tired, but we didn't really know it. The adrenaline was seeping from us.
I knew I had to get a couple road trip pictures. Just to show we didn't just teleport to Florida.
Guess who's a little stubborn about getting his picture taken??
This is Matt.
Robby wasn't so bad, he's pretty much a ham.
Yes, Matt! Making a stupid face will stop me from taking more pictures. Thank god he's pretty!
My chauffer (sp). He did good. Got us there and got us there ALIVE! Keep on truckin Jay!
Tried to do this one myself. I told Robby to come get in a picture with me. I honestly have no idea what this child is doing?? Looks like he wants to do a Mike Tyson!
Forgive my appearance, a night in the truck is pretty rough.
We got into Daytona around 11:00. The ride from the highway to the ocean seems like it takes forever. It had stopped raining, but it was still pretty cloudy. My plan to check in and sleep by the pool had been ruined. That was o.k. though, I was in Florida and I was on vacation.
We pulled into the Travelodge Oceans Jewel. I made reservations here this summer. Seemed like a pretty nice place. ON THE INTERNET! I went inside to check in. They told me our room wasn't ready. I explained we had just drove all night, hoping he would feel my pain. He said to come back around 1:00.
I went to leave and tried to pull the door open. This was the same door I just walked into not 5 minutes ago. I pulled and pulled. I tried the other door, nothing. They were locked.
I went back to the counter to tell them for some reason I had locked myself in here. I was kind of freaked out.
The guy just looks at me and with the most calm of voices says "push"!
I wanted to die.
I busted out laughing and by the time I got to the truck I was laughing so hard I was crying.
The guys got a huge kick out of this and every door from then on, they say "push". Hee Hee Funny!
We just drove around for the next 2 hours. It was Thanksgiving day so everything was closed. You couldn't even drive on the beach for some reason. (tide I think)
We hit a K-mart. Thinking we might score some cheap souveniers. Nope. Does it seem like all K-marts are looking worse? They look really run down and cramped!
We drove by the speedway, the boys were pretty little when we were there before so they didn't remember it.
About 12:45 we went back to our hotel to just see. It was ready. We lugged our 600lbs of luggage (mine was 500 of that) up the stairs and opened the door and YUCK! That place wasn't very pretty. It did have an ocean view like I wanted though.
It would be alright for one night. Did the bedbug check though. This is standard for me, I don't want to take them little critters home with me. The guys were getting around so I went out on the little patio to check things out.
A surfer dude!
Checking our my picture taking skills. Not bad ay??
This is what Jay was doing while we got around.
After everyone was ready we decide we were hungry for a real Thanksgiving Feast. So this is where we decided we would go.
We had a short wait and asked to have a table outside. About 2 feet from Atlantic Ave. This is the main drag at the beach. We all ordered......guess!
Barbeque! It was wonderful. The perfect Thanksgiving dinner. I had ribs, chicken, pulled pork, french fries and coleslaw. The chicken was pretty dry, the ribs were a little tough, but man that pulled pork was out of this world. The had different sauces you could put on it, we tried them all.
Cars were driving by, the air was warm, you could smell the ocean. It was perfect! There was a car show going on at the speedway, so all the old cars were cruising the coast. We kind of got our own private show, plus you can hear the muscle, you can't hear that from a car sitting at a show.
We licked our plates clean and took off. Jay wanted to show the boys the lighthouse. We drove the whole stretch of Atlantic Ave. Just taking in all the sights. There are so many houses and hotels it was hard to get a glimse of the ocean, but we knew it was there.
Finally we found what we were in search of.
We didn't stay long. Just admired for a couple minutes and we were on our way again.
I just really wanted to walk on the beach.
We got back to the icky hotel and took off our shoes, (not Jay) and walked out the back gates to the beach. On our way out we noticed the pool and hot tub were closed for some reason or another. So, $140 for a crappy room with no pool or hot tub! Nice huh??
I guess some weird tide thing was going on because there was all kinds of seaweed and crap on the sand. We walked down where the water was coming up and HOO BABY that water was cold.
The boys loved it. They were in the water in no time at all.
We just kept walking and walking. The sand felt WONDERFUL on my feet.
I couldn't get the boys out of the water.
I did finally make them because I knew about the undertow and those waves were pretty big. Or, I'm just an over protective mother and I just KNOW there are sharks out there waiting to take bites out of my precious babies!
Some more random pics.
We walked back to the hotel. Got our jammies on and watched tv until we all fell asleep on the amazingly HARD bed.
All it all it was a wonderful day. We were soooo tired that time didn't fly by. It was a great relaxing way to start our vacation.
So, on that Thanksgiving Day I was most thankful that we were a happy, healthy family.....together.......on vacation!
