Nikki and Tom take on F&W and MNSSHP-Take 2! LINK TO TR pg. 55

Thanks Mel. When I start in the Spring, I can't go for more than a few minutes either. Seriously, if you tried it, you'll see it only take a few days of going to build up some stamina!

I tried it last time before we went to Disney (2009). Ron loves to jog (I prefer walking) and we both wanted to get in shape for Disney, so we went to the park (it's a big park) nearby several times a week. Despite my best efforts, I wasn't very good. The most I was able to do was a total of 6 minutes spread over 40 minutes in the park. Most of the time he was just (literraly) running circles around me. :rotfl: Even his daughter ran way more than I did.

I'll definitely try it again once spring arrives, but I have a feeling I'll mostly just walk.

Good for you for considering a race! I've been toying with the idea semi-seriously myself, but... I have a tendency to eat really "badly" while I'm at Disney and I'm not sure how good that'd be for my running! :rotfl: I've been following a TR that chronicles the half marathon and honestly, it's so inspiring that it makes me really want to do it! So, we'll see... :rolleyes1

I also would love to do the marathon. But I'm so not a runner lol Darn asthma

I eat reeeally badly too! And I'll be food and wine-ing it all day the day before! But as long as I train as a bad eater, I should be okay! :lmao: That's my logic! No way I could do a half. 5K first thing in the morning will be definitely doable!

I also would love to do the marathon. But I'm so not a runner lol Darn asthma

Have you guys seen the video of the new castle show, Magic, Memories and You? I just watched the video and it was completely amazing!!! I started clapping at one point and when it was over, I said, "Oh I LOVE that!" Tom's response? "Did you really? I couldn't tell by the weeping!!" A complete mess! I can't hear those 7 notes of When You Wish Upon a Star without getting choked up. So the whole time I'm tearing and sniffling a little but at the end? Oh I just lost it!! Tom won't watch the video because he wants to see it for the first time when we go.

So here it is, in case you missed it on the front page. I suggest watching it in full screen.

Thanks for posting it. I hadn'T seen it. I love it. I always cry when I see Walt.

Hi Nikki! I have been a longtime lurker on your TR's and PTR's, but I am not sure if I have ever actually posted... but I am now!

We will be there around the same time (me and DS3 Jack)! We are only doing 4 days as well, I just don't have enough vacation time to go for longer, and since we went twice in 2010... I think 4 days will be plenty! I haven't started my PTR yet, I am determined to finish my TR from December first!

I have also considered the 5k, but since at this point it's just me and Jack I decided to skip it and we are leaving the day F&W starts. My goal before I am 30 is to run (and walk) in a Disney marathon, so I guess i better get started training!

I too remember the Cake Castle, I didn't mind it at the time. The new ads etc get me every time too. They were showing them as an intro on the ME in December and I just about broke down then too, but managed to keep it together... barely.

It's awesome that you have converted more family members. I am hoping to get a few people sucked into the addiction as well...

Can't wait to hear more!

you will love it:goodvibes.....

besides.......we can use each other for motivation as I am now back on my vacation diet (wanna lose 15 pounds for my vacation to Ireland in 132 days...but hey - whose counting??;).

That's great you want to do the 5k, will make for a memorable trip :)

Hmm, actually the problem with doing the race at night is I'll be in the parks all day.....eating, most likely! I'll be stuffed and exhausted. I think if I do anything, the 5k will be the best option. :thumbsup2

Have you checked out any of the training plans on http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/sports/rundisney/

If you've never done a race before and you are concerned about it being at night, then maybe you should start w/the 5k....But trust me, it's addictive, you'll be dying to try a half marathon

I think I might do the 5K too! Although I tried doing a Couch to 5K program last spring and gave up the first day, I'm NOT a runner, but I really want to get in shape this year and a Disney 5K is great motivation! :thumbsup2 I'm going to have to change my dates around for my trip though, since the race is Saturday and that is my arrival day! :cool1:

Did you see anything about the cost? I was looking for info on the 5K from last year and it says it's $99 to register, but they also give you a ticket to MNSSHP for Sunday night...I kinda wanted to go to a party later in the week, but I guess I could always go to 2! :woohoo:

Hey!!! So glad you finally decided to post but I am happy you have been reading anyway!! Sounds fun, just you and Jack! I'll be on the lookout for your new PTR so we can plan together!

Oooh, Ireland vacation sounds nice!

I am here! Can't wait to hear more planning. We are going next Oct.

Yay! Thanks for joining in!

That's great you want to do the 5k, will make for a memorable trip :)

Definitely!! I like to try to do something new and different every trip and this is certainly something different!

Have you checked out any of the training plans on http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/sports/rundisney/

Yes, it's definitely the 5K. I've completely ruled out the 1/2 marathon at this point!

:woohoo:

Yay!! We can plan together!! We can totally do it!

Ugh, I saw that ridiculous registration too! At first I was excited that it includes a MNSSHP party ticket but we are going on Friday night and leaving on Sunday!! What a waste! I wish they would give you the option of what night you want your ticket OR let you register for a lower price without getting the ticket. It's just going to go to waste, unless I can find someone to give it to.

Like I said before, all winter long, I am the worst couch potato, but come Spring, I start, veeeery slowly at first, at in just a few days, I am able to (slowly) run the whole 2-mile trail. Then I just keep at it every day until Fall when I turn into a blob again! You can really do it! And even if we CAN'T do it, who cares? So we walk...it'll still be super fun!! :thumbsup2

Do the run, do the run! It is weird that they won't let you choose the day for the MNSSHP...perhaps you can spread a bit of pixie dust with it though. :goodvibes

I have a Disney run on my Disney Bucket List...someday!

I'm totally going to do it! I seriously thought about it for like two seconds before I decided, I HAVE to do it!! This is too good of an opportunity to pass up! What are the odds we just happen to be there while a race is going on?!

I'm not going to worry about it too much until the information is released. Last year was the first one so who knows what might be different, as far as MNSSHP ticket dates are concerned. Maybe if enough people complained or asked for another night, they changed it to a choice of two or three dates OR will allow you to register at a lower price without the ticket. But if it is the same, yes I do hope to spread some pixie dust!! :wizard: (One of the reasons I just joined the Official October 2011 thread!)

Hi Nikki! i am just joining in now and so excited to see how all of your planning goes! i will be there around the same time as you and CANNOT WAIT! Those new commercials TOTALLY get me crying every time! i sure am glad i am not the only one! i wish my parents would have surprised me with a trip to wdw like that when i was little ... we went quite a bit but never a surprise trip!
i am a runner too but ive never done a marathon! i run about 5 miles 3-5 times a week. i work retail so my schedule is never the same and sometimes it is hard to fit in working out as often as i would like. i am trying to lose 25 lbs before disney in september/october. my dates straddle the months as well ... i cannot wait for the 40th anniversary!
i just got back from wdw about a week ago and i spent so much on the new merchandise! i got that grey track jacket thats in a photo in ur link.
im trying to watch that video on youtube .. but it is NOT LOADING - I AM ANNOYED! :rotfl: anyways, i look forward to hearing more about your trip! it is going to be so magical :wizard:

Well, I'm 7 pages late :rotfl: But I found you!

First - LOVE, love, LOVE the old photos!!!! So awesome and they bring back lots of memories (but PLEASE no more pink castle :lmao:)

Second - Emma is getting so big!!

Your trip sounds awesome with lots of great people to share it with. I'm a runner and am very jealous you will be signing up! That sounds like an awesome experience! Have fun planning and keep the updates coming - you always put a song in my step when I read your reports (all the single riders :rolleyes1) (Oh, that emoticon says 'rolleyes' but I chose it for the musical notes!)

I'm really not a runner either....I also did the Couch to 5k, but did the entire thing on the treadmill...I'd never be able to do that much running outside:confused3

I checked all over the rundisney site for the prices, but I couldnt find them..Maybe because you can't register until February?:confused3

I'm glad I still have 8 months til my trip is here, so I can get myself into shape because seriously, I can run maybe 30 seconds before I'm totally winded and have to give up! :rotfl: It's probably going to take me the full 8 months to be able to run a 5K. But I'm determined, and it gives me something constructive to do with my time until my trip! I can't wait to start my PTR and start planning, because I'm going to chronicle the whole Couch to 5K journey in it too, but I probably won't start one til late March/early April!

I've heard that running on a treadmill is a lot different than running outside, which is why I'm going to do the Couch to 5K outside, probably just around my neighborhood. I wish I had a nice running trail around here, but there's nothing! For now, I'm just going to get started on my elliptical and try to lose some weight before I actually switch over to running once it gets a little nicer out!

I guess you can't look at prices until you can register, I hope they update the info on that soon! I was just going by what they did last year, but hopefully they will change it so you don't have to go to the Sunday MNSSHP! :)
